Clifford Kirkendall
NORTH PLATTE -- Clifford J. Kirkendall, 86, of North Platte died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
Mr. Kirkendall was cremated. A memorial service will be at a later date.
There will be no visitation. Adams and Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to Great Plains Hospice.
Mr. Kirkendall was born on April 3, 1912, at Kearney to John R. and Nellie M. (Humphrey) Kirkendall. He grew up and attended school in Kearney.
He married
June Nelson on June 8, 1933, at Lexington. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor for 39 years, retiring in 1976. He lived in North Platte for the last 27 years.
He was a life member of BPO Elks Lodge 985, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2839, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 551, the United Transportation Union and Lake Maloney Golf Club. He enjoyed playing golf and spending the winter months in Texas.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert J. Kirkendall of Des Moines, Iowa, and Stanely W. Kirkendall of Rolla, Mo.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Goldie Dlunn of North Platte.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lula Crawford and Esther Moo.
Leo J. Boehl
Leo J. Boehl, 45, of Grand Island died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at the St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Leo J. Boehl was born May 17, 1953 in Grand Island to Arthur and Rose Agnes (Hughes) Boehl. He was raised in Grand Island, where he graduated from high school.
He was employed at the family business, Key Liquor, until it closed in 1988. He was active in music groups playing in the surrounding area. Boehl was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
Survivors include his mother, Rose Agnes Boehl of Grand Island; a sister, Mary Ann Schuster of Cornelius, OR; and a brother, William A. Boehl of Ypsilanti, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a sister, Rose Ann Pfeiffer-Wodrich.
Marlin Britton
Marlin A. Britton, 76, of Grand Island died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at the St. Francis Medical Center of Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Taylor. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate.
Mr. Britton donated his body to science. There will be no visitation.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Loup County Historical Society in Taylor.
Mr. Britton was born on April 11, 1922, to Lem and Eva (Dye) Britton at his grandparent's home six miles northwest of Taylor in Loup County. In 1926, he moved with his sister, Ila, to a farm the family had purchased two miles northeast of his grandparent's home. He attended Sunnyside School District No. 23 and graduated from Taylor High School in 1939. In December 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He received his pilots wings and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in March of 1945 at Foster Field in Victoria, Texas. After serving at air bases in Yuma, Ariz., and Victorville, Calif., he was honorably discharged from the service in December 1945.
He married
Erline Mitchel on July 21, 1945, at the Air Base Chapel in Victorville, Calif., and the couple lived in California until December 1945. In January of 1946, the couple returned to Taylor where he was employed by Miles Ferguson in the operation of the Texaco Service Station. He later worked for Bob Wiley in the grocery store and locker plant and then for Lester Watland as a truck driver. In 1950, the couple purchased the Bill Cole farm west of Taylor where they farmed and ranched for most of his life. In 1985, they moved to Grand Island and worked at the Hall County Housing Authority until his retirement in 1996.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Loup County Draft Board and the Taylor Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Taylor Grade School Board of Education, the County Board of Commissioners, the Board of Directors of the Loup County Rural Fire District, and as a director of the County Weed Control Board.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary Joseph Britton of Lincoln and Alan Charles Britton of Syracuse; one daughter, Carol Ann (Mrs. Reid) Wells of Fairfield; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two sisters, Ila Dunne of Taylor and Iva Fann of Lago Vista, Texas.
Donald A. Duering
Donald A. Duering, 65, of the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at All Faith's Chapel at the Nebraska Veterans Home. The Rev. Walter Phelan will officiate. Burial will be in the Burkett Cemetery. Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Duering was born Dec. 14, 1932, in North Platte to Herman Clause and Velma Mary (Hinton) Duering. The family moved to Grand Island in 1941, and he was educated in Grand Island. He entered the Army in February 1953, serving in the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in December 1954. He returned to Grand Island.
He married
Janett Boltz in March of 1957. They moved to Denver, CO in 1961. In 1991, he returned to Grand Island and was a patient at the Veterans Administration Medical Center until being transferred to the Nebraska Veterans Home in 1996.
Survivors include one son, David Allen of Denver, CO; two daughters, Marcy Ann of Norwalk, WI and Shelly Arlene of Wilton, WI; four brothers, twin brother, Darrell of Denver, CO, Harry of Hastings, Glenn of Elwood and Jerry of Grand Island; five sisters, Bess (Mrs. Douglas) Clark, Mabel (Mrs. Gene) VanCleave and Marjorie Vogt, all of Grand Island, Pauline Roberts of Seward and Darlene (Mrs. Arnold) Khyn of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Leo.
Jean M. Ita
Jean M. Ita, 80, 137 Pletcher Terrace, died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Vern Rice will officiate. Burial will be at the Archer, NE Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ita was born January 29, 1918 in Archer to Otto Leo and Rosa May (Paulard) Held. She grew up and received her education in Archer, and graduated from Archer High School in 1936.
She married
Clarence Ita March 1, 1937 in Archer. The couple farmed and ranched in Garfield and Wheeler counties.
Mrs. Ita was a member of the Methodist church in Erickson, NE.
Survivors include one brother, Don Held of Kearney; one son, Donald Ita of Erickson; one daughter, Geralyn "Jerri" (Mrs. Rodger) Williams of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; seven brothers, Harold, Morris, Dale, Bob, Kenneth, Keith and Marvin; and three sisters, Verna Rodysill, Ursula Young and Wilma Christianson.
Viola Danielson
AURORA -- Viola Danielson, 94, of Aurora died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Margaret Morgan
FULLERTON -- Margaret Morgan, 47, of Fullerton died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the St. Peters Catholic Church in Fullerton. Burial will be at the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery. Rev. Don Cleary will officiate. Palmer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5 at the Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.
H. Keith Newton
ALBION -- H. Keith Newton, 83, of Albion died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at the Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge, CO.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the United Methodist Church in Albion. The Rev. Teyrl Otto will officiate. Burial will be in the Lincoln Memorial cemetery in Lincoln with Military Rites conducted by the American Legion Post #3 of Lincoln.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
