Mabel Alderman
KEARNEY -- Mabel Alderman, 93, of Kearney died Friday, Feb. 7, 1998, at St. Luke's Care Home in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. The Rev. Dean Pofahl will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant cemetery in Cairo.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Luke's Care Home Chapel Fund.
Mrs. Alderman was born May 6, 1907, in Wood River to William and Agusta (Bluhm) Carstensen. She grew up on a farm north of Wood River and attended District 14 School. She graduated from Cairo High School and also attended Grand Island Baptist College. She taught school in Sherman and Hall counties for four years.
She married
Arthur Alderman on June 9, 1927, in Sterling, Colo. He died in 1969. The couple lived near Julesburg, Colo., where she taught rural schools.
In 1929, the couple moved to Ravenna, where they spent the next 29 years before moving to Gibbon in 1958. She operated the cafe at the Nebraska Turkey Plant in Gibbon for 12 years.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Faithful Rebekah Lodge No. 89, Jolly Home Extension Club, H and H Garden Club and Senior Citizen Group.
Survivors include three daughters, Jeannette (Mrs. Leonard) Hurt of Omaha, Reva (Mrs. Warren) Smith of Moriarty, N.M., and Gladys Nickel of Minden; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant granddaughter and two sisters.
Jack Berger
GREELEY -- Jack D. Berger, 33, of Greeley died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, in Greeley.
Services are pending with Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Emil Kvamme
PETERSBURG -- Emil Hermod Kvamme, 71, of Petersburg died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church in rural Albion. The Rev. Larry Spomer will officiate. Burial will be in the North Branch-East cemetery with military rites conducted by Petersburg American Legion Post No. 334.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Memorials are suggested to the Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church.
Mr. Kvamme was born on March 14, 1926, to Andrew and Nelsine (Hernes) Kvamme on the family farm in the North Branch area, east of Petersburg. He was attended District 51 School and Closter District 88 from the ninth through 11th grades. He attended Albion High School his senior year.
He farmed until 1951, when he entered the U.S. Army and served in Korea. Following his discharge in 1953, he returned to farm on the family farm, where he lived and farmed his entire life.
He was a member of Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church and Petersburg American Legion Post No. 334.
He enjoyed music, singing and playing the guitar and often entertained along with his brother, Herman, and his cousins. He cared for his parents and sister.
Survivors include his brother, Herman of Petersburg.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Casper and Arnold; and a sister, Alvilda.
Fern Tibbs
ALDA -- Fern I. Tibbs, 58, of Alda died Friday Feb. 6, 1998, at her home.
Funeral services are pending with the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Evelyn Leonard
SPRINGFIELD, MO. -- Evelyn M. Leonard, 89, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Wood River, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wood River. The Rev. Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with a rosary at 9:30 a.m. at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
J. Wayne Eschliman
J. Wayne Eschliman, 85, of Grand Island died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center of Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eric Ford and the Rev. Delvin Roper officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Roselawn cemetery at Columbus.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church, Trinity United Methodist Men or the donor's choice.
Mr. Eschliman was born March 14, 1913, at Rising City to Arthur and Eva (Rendall) Eschliman. He attended rural schools at Rising City and Bellwood, graduating in 1932 from Kramer High School in Columbus.
Mr. Eschliman was employed in the civil service with the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C. He then moved to Chicago, where he was employed by several businesses.
He married
Frances Klaus on Dec. 28, 1941, at Columbus. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, with his final tour of duty in the Aleutian Islands.
Following his discharge from the military, Mr. Eschliman attended the Coyne Electrical School near Chicago. He and his wife then began developing their farms, first at Bellwood and later at Silver Creek. They moved to Grand Island in June 1954. He worked for many years as a self-employed painting contractor. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 20 years, retiring in 1979.
He enjoyed taking care of his home and gardens, family gatherings and travel.
He was a 60-year member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men, a life member of the V.F.W. Post 1347, the Prairie Pioneer Genealogical Society, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the National Federation of the Blind.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linette (Mrs. E.J.) Knoll of Eugene, Ore., and Janice (Mrs. Jack) Hughes of Bellevue; two sons, Roger of Lincoln and Keith of Grand Island; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild, L.W. Knoll.
Eugene Semm
Eugene W. Semm, 77, of Grand Island died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island with the Rev. John Douglas Russell officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Semm was born Nov. 29, 1920, to Jake and Agnes (Haney) Semm at Grand Island. He attended school in Grand Island.
He married
Edna Lockenvitz at Hastings on Oct. 1, 1940. They lived in Grand Island.
Mr. Semm worked for Greenburger Body Shop and the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. He later owned and operated J.C. Semm and Sons Welding Shop. He semi-retired in 1996.
Mr. Semm was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and the Platt Duetsche. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Norma (Mrs. Sterling) Caulkins of Phillips; two sons, Dr. Larry Semm of Creswell, Ore., and Dale Semm of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles of Lakewood, Colo.; and two sisters, Helen Brittin and Irene Weiss, both of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Semm, and a granddaughter.
Irene Tibbs
Irene P. Tibbs, 85, formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at the Village Manor in Lincoln.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island with the Rev. William Voelker officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 9 p.m.
Mrs. Tibbs was born May 31, 1913, in rural Hall County to Herman and Lena (Werner) Florke. She attended District 29 school and Trinity Lutheran School.
She married
Elmer Tibbs on Nov. 13, 1934, in Gering. Following their marriage, they lived in several Nebraska communities before moving to a farm north of Grand Island in 1950.
They moved to Grand Island in 1974 when Mr. Tibbs semi-retired. He died in 1979. Mrs. Tibbs moved to Wood River in 1996 and to Lincoln in May of this year.
She was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. She joined Peace Lutheran Church after moving to Grand Island from the farm.
Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Andersen, Beverly Solliday and Shirley Hernoud, all of Lincoln; a son, Lyle Tibbs of Grand Island; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Erna Schwartz and Elsie Petersen, both of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter, Phyllis; a daughter, Fern Tibbs; and a brother, Harry Florke.
Terre Lee Wilke
Terre Lee Wilke, 45, of Grand Island died at his home Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, as a result of a heart disability.
Mr. Wilke was cremated. No services have been scheduled.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Wilke was born March 31, 1953, in Grand Island to Lyle and Leola (Pahl) Wilke. He attended Jefferson Elementary, Walnut Junior High and Grand Island Senior High schools, graduating in 1971.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman-on-brother-duty aboard the USS Bradley.
After his discharge, he married
Janice McCoig on Feb. 14, 1976, in Grand Island. They lived in Cairo for several years and then moved to Alma, where Mr. Wilke worked for Whitmeyer Appliance as an appliance repairman. They later moved back to Cairo, where Mr. Wilke worked for Miller's Appliance and then for Steve's Appliance.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include a son, Shawn, attending college in Crete; a daughter, Traci JaNea, attending college in Kearney; his parents; and two brothers, Dennis of Spokane, Wash., and Stanley of Lakeside, Calif.
