ST. PAUL -- Dean Kowalski, 54, of St. Paul died Monday, July 20, 1998, at the Columbus Community Hospital as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Rita McCarthy
TAYLOR -- Rita Esta McCarthy, 76, of Taylor died Monday, July 20, 1998, under hospice care in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Assembly of God Church in Taylor. The Rev. Donald Dennison will officiate. Burial will be in Moulton cemetery in Loup County.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the church or the family's choice.
'Bob' Nickman
PLEASANTON -- Robert "Bob" Nickman, 68, of Pleasanton died Monday, July 20, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pleasanton. The Revs. Loren Pohlmeier, Jan Smutny and Stanley Gorak will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery at Pleasanton. Military rites at the graveside will be provided by Leo and Clinton Krotz Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9481 and Pleasanton Roy Eaton American Legion Post 321.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney. A Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Further visitation will be prior to the services on Wednesday and Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Nickman was born on Dec. 23, 1929, in Pleasanton to John L. and Monica C. (Batenhorst) Nickman. He grew up in Pleasanton and graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1947.
He entered the U.S. Navy in 1948 and served during the Korean War with the Seabees until 1953. After the service, he farmed northwest of Pleasanton.
He married
Doris J. (Rasmussen) Asher on Aug. 19, 1966, in Kearney.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Leo and Clinton Krotz VFW Post 9481, both in Pleasanton.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Michael Nickman of Doniphan; three daughters, Pamela Wetzel and Barbara Mendyk, both of Grand Island, and Carolyn Trieschman of Houston; one stepdaughter, Constance Farritor of North Platte; one stepson, Randall Asher of Hazard; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Dr. Donald Nickman of Helena, Mont., and Dr. Norman Nickman of Missoula, Mont; and one sister, Joanne Baciocco of Atherton, Calif.
Gertrude Stittle
RAVENNA -- Gertrude C. Stittle, 89, of Ravenna died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Rod Pruss will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery south of Ravenna.
Christian wake services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Rasmussen Mortuary of Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Stittle was born on March 22, 1909, in Custer County to Julius and Marie (Reimers) Zimmer. She was educated at the Black Hills School.
She married
John Stittle on April 22, 1930, at Ansley. The couple farmed south of Ravenna until 1971, when they moved to Ravenna.
Mrs. Stittle was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
Survivors include two sons, Johnny Stittle of Ravenna and Fred Stittle of Alameda, Calif.; three daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Henry) Habe and Joan (Mrs. Bob) Kriha, both of Ravenna, and Margaret (Mrs. Mike) Niedercorn of Houston; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Regina Rolfsmeyer of Litchfield and Margaret Daake of Kearney.
Her husband died on Dec. 23, 1987. She also was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters.
'Pat' Hart
BEAVER LAKE -- Phillip Edward "Pat" Hart, 66, of Beaver Lake, formerly of Albion, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Ralph Steffensmeier will officiate. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, Wednesday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion. Visitation will continue until 9:45 a.m. Thursday in Albion.
Mr. Hart was born on Jan. 14, 1932, in Omaha to Lyle and Edith Esther (Hart) Murphy. He grew up in Albion, where he attended Albion Public School and graduated from Albion High School in 1949.
He entered the U.S. Navy in 1949 and served in Hawaii and China. Following his discharge in 1952, he worked at a Standard service station in California.
He married
Marie June LaConi in September 1954 in Bethesda, Md. He worked at various jobs, including his work in the parts department at the Ford dealership in Albion, magazine sales, working as a salesman for a Rambler car dealership in Omaha and insurance salesman for Bankers Life.
He married
Beverly Morgan on Feb. 18, 1978, in Omaha. They lived in Omaha until 1988, when they moved to Beaver Lake. He was an agent for Blue Cross/Blue Shield out of Omaha for more than 20 years, retiring in July 1994.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly; two sons, Kelly and Kevin Hart, both of Omaha; four daughters, Patricia (Mrs. Steve) King, Elizabeth Montano and Katherine (Mrs. Dave) Hagel, all of Phoenix, and Kimberly (Mrs. Steve) Ramm of Omaha; one stepson, Ron Morgan of Omaha; one stepdaughter, Kimberlee (Mrs. Tim) O'Dell of Blair; 23 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Frank Kraus of Albion; and two sisters, Rosemary Rolf of Albion and Patricia (Mrs. Jerry) Boyd of Baltimore.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Linda George
OGDEN, Utah -- Linda George, 47, of Ogden, Utah, formerly of Plattsmouth, died July 14, 1998, in Italy.
Services are pending with Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth.
Among her survivors are her husband, Robert; and in-laws, Ted and Imogene George of Grand Island.
James Roth
WICHITA, Kan. -- James Donnell Roth, 55, of Wichita, Kan., formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, July 18, 1998, in an airplane accident in Marion County, Kan.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island. The Revs. Philip Thengvall and Gary Schulte will officiate. Burial will be in Hesston, Kan.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church for Trinity Equipping Center in Moscow, Russia.
Dr. Alvin A. Jaeke
Dr. Alvin A. Jaeke, 90, of 803 Alpha No. 109, formerly of Shelton, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Shelton. The Rev. Charles Spence will officiate. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 297 of Shelton at the Shelton Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before service time Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Shelton Emergency Unit or the church.

Dr. Jaeke was born on March 3, 1908, at Stanton to Edwin J. and Mamie (Vogel) Jaeke. He attended school in Stanton and graduated from Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1932.
He married
Virginia Henthorn of Aurora on June 1, 1941, at Lincoln. He entered the armed services on Dec. 21, 1941, spent more than two years in the China-Burma-India theater and returned as a major.
After the war, the couple lived in Shelton, where he had a dental practice for 40 years. After selling his practice, he continued doing lab work until the couple moved to Grand Island in November 1994.
He was a member of the Shelton United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Shelton Lions Club, served as its first president and was the last living member of the original club. He served on the Shelton Board of Education, village board, county Selective Service board and veterans service board. He also was a member of American Legion Post 297 of Shelton.
He was to be presented a certificate and pin on Nov. 11 for being a member for 50 continuous years of that organization. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years. He contributed to the church, the Masonic Eastern Star Home for Children, Masonic Home in Plattsmouth and a planned scholarship fund.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Timothy M. of Minneapolis; a daughter, Cheryl (Mrs. James) Samples of Shorewood, Minn.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
