Cora Anne Schmidt
BROKEN BOW -- Cora Anne Schmidt, 91, of Broken Bow, formerly of Arcadia, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church in Arcadia. The Rev. Wayne Rouse will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the preservation of the former Congregational Church in Arcadia or to the family's choice.
Mrs. Schmidt was born on May 7, 1906, in Valley County to George and Nellie (Droeger) Greenland. She attended the Pleasant Valley Country School.
She married
Hans Schmidt on Feb. 15, 1927, at Loup City. The family lived on farms in the Loup City and Arcadia areas until moving into Arcadia in 1958. Mr. Schmidt died in 1979. Mrs. Schmidt lived in Arcadia until 1991, when she entered Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
She attended Calvary Baptist Church and, in later years, the Independent Bible Church, both in Arcadia.
Survivors include one son, Allan Schmidt of Arcadia; three daughters, Arlene Franzen of Broken Bow, Orma Wright of Port Isabel, Texas, and Alice White of Bloomington, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Marvin Greenland of Arcadia.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Derril Schmidt; one grandson; three sisters and four brothers.
Josephine Stejskal
ALBION -- Josephine Rose Stejskal, 103, of Albion died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion with the Rev. Mary Avidano officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Stejskal was born on March 19, 1894, on a farm east of Beemer to Frank and Mary (Hruby) Kafka. She attended rural Cuming schools and Beemer High School.
She married
Frank Stejskal on April 10, 1917, at West Point. They lived and farmed west of Albion. The couple retired and moved to Albion in the early 1960s. Mr. Stejskal died on Sept. 16, 1975. Mrs. Stejskal moved to Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in 1988.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. Nelce) Martinsen of Fairmont; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian (Mrs. Bill) Bentjen of Albion.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Frank J., who died in infancy, Leland and Warren "Shorty"; two brothers and one sister.
Jessie Bopp
York -- Jessie Louise Bopp, 72, of York, formerly of Polk, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Beverly J. Minor will officiate. Burial will be in Dublin cemetery at Primrose.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Bopp was born on July 17, 1925, in Eugene, Ore., to John S. and Mabel (Nelsen) Smith. As a young woman, she lived in the Albion and Inman areas. She graduated from Inman High School in 1943.
She married
James F. Bopp on Feb. 16, 1953. They lived in Spalding, where Mrs. Bopp worked at the nursing home as a nurse's aide. They moved to Polk in 1978 and lived there until Mr. Bopp's death on Sept. 19, 1990. Mrs. Bopp then moved to York and worked as a supply clerk at York General Hospital. She moved into the Grand Island Veterans Home in November 1997.
Mrs. Bopp enjoyed reading and crocheting and was a volunteer at the York County Agency on Aging.
Survivors include three sons, Rick Bopp of Fremont, Tim Bopp of Ansley and Daniel Bopp of Valentine; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Audrey Crosby of Spalding and Wilma Crosby of St. Paul.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two infant sisters, Patsy Ruth and Byrle Tiereny.
Mary Frahm
Mary K. Frahm, 98, of Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Park Place.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas Stensby will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
She was born on Feb. 10, 1900, in Hall County to Henry Fredrick and Dora Margaret (Wilhelm) Frahm. She grew up in Merrick County and was educated in the Havens-Silver Creek Public Schools, graduating from high school there. She lived near Grand Island and worked as a self-employed housekeeper.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her sister, Mabel Strobehn of Grand Island; and a nephew, Gary Frahm of Grand Island, who helped care for her.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Bill Frahm.
Harold Harder
Harold J. Harder, 70, of Grand Island died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Russell will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Harder was born on Nov. 28, 1927, at Grand Island to John P. and Nellie Kay (Penner) Harder. He grew up and was educated in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High.
He worked for several Grand Island businesses. He then moved to Denver.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Nov. 24, 1945, spending most of his service time participating at Bikini Atoll in the atomic bomb tests in the Marshall Islands. He was discharged on Nov. 3, 1947.
He returned to Grand Island and received his training under the G.I. Bill in upholstery. He opened his own auto interior and home decorating business four years later and retired after 45 years.
He married
Beverly Urwiller on May 15, 1949, at Grand Island. Mrs. Harder died on Jan. 2, 1995.
He enjoyed repairing electrical items, yard work, gardening and dogs, especially the companionship of his dog, Jem. He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1347, American Legion Post 53, Am Vets and Liederkranz Club.
Survivors include two sons, David Harder of North Platte and Brad Harder of Grand Island; five grandchildren; and one brother, Robert "Bob" Harder of Brush Prairie, Wash.
Ethel Baker
BROKEN BOW -- Ethel Baker, 76, of Broken Bow died Friday, June 26, 1998, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Services are pending at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Kelly Spotts
PHILLIPS -- Kelly Dean Spotts, 35, of Phillips, formerly of Giltner, died June 16, 1998, at his home.
Services were on June 19 at the Giltner United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul Nauman officiated.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Fort McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell.
Higby Mortuary of Aurora was in charge of arrangements.
Jane Bangs
DONIPHAN -- Jane Bangs, 78, of Doniphan died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island.
