Herman Schmadeke
ALBION -- Herman Elmer Schmadeke, 88, of Albion died Thursday, April 22, 1999 at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion with the Rev. Brian Bergum officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Schmadeke was born on Jan. 15, 1911 to Charles and Anna (Hefti) Schmadeke in Albion. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Albion and attended elementary school at School District 65 in Boone County. He graduated from Newman Grove High School.
In May 1932 he married
Viola Loken in Albion. The couple lived on a farm near Albion.
Mr. Schmadeke married
Elma Fae Cox on Dec. 6, 1964 in Albion.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, and held office as president of the County Treasurers Association with the State of Nebraska in 1974. He also served on the A.S.S. Rural Electric Cooperative Association and the Federal Land BAnk Association Board of Directors.
Mr. Schmadeke worked at the state fair from 1976 to 1996 in the Industrial Arts Building
Survivors include his wife Elma Fae of Albion; one daughter, Joanne Stahl of Hastings; one son, Harley Schmadeke and his wife Susan of Sioux City, Iowa; seven grandchildren; three step children, Dina Eisenbraun (Mrs. Frank) of Collierville, Tenn., Richard Cox and his wife Roberta of Osage, Minn., and Janice Jelinek (Mrs. Del) of Henning, Minn.; 11 great grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Adamson (Mrs. Arnold) of Fremont, and Gretchen Landen (Mrs. Jack) of Albion; two brothers, Clarence Schmadeke and his wife Eva of Lincoln, and Carl Schmadeke of Hillsboro, Ore.; one sister-in-law, Delores Schmadeke of Albion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, and one brother, Melvin Schmadeke.
Marvin Steenson
GREELEY -- Marvin Steenson, 83, of Greeley died Saturday, April 24, 1999 at the Howard County Hospital in St. Paul.
Funeral services are pending at T.J. Finn and Sons Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
John Van Vleet
John Van Vleet, 83, of Kearney died Saturday, April 24, 1999 in Kearney.
Services are pending with the Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon in charge of arrangements.
George Miles
George L. Miles, 73, of the Grand Island Veterans Home died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday from the Kleine Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Beverly Minor will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Mount Hope cemetery in Beaver City.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Miles was born Oct. 12, 1924, at Elwood to Frank and Bertha Mae (Houlden) Miles. He was educated in Elwood.
He served in the U.S. Army from November 1945 until December 1946. He married
Louise Marie Keezer at Holdrege, and they moved around Nebraska and Kansas as he worked construction. After his wife's death, Mr. Miles lived in Holdrege for a while. He moved to the Grand Island Veterans Home about six years ago.
He was a member of the VFW and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Holdrege.
Survivors include three sons, Ronald of Alda, Donald of Ulysses, Kan., and Dennis of Phillips; three daughters, Kayla (Mrs. John) Eastman of Grand Island, Verda Wagner of Wood River and Ramona "Mona" (Mrs. Steve) Schafer of Doniphan; 12 grandchildren; and one brother, Homer Miles of Cottage Grove, Minn.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by brother and sister twins, Donald and Dorothy; and three brothers, Dale, Elmer and Floyd.
Ida Allbery
NORTH LOUP -- Ida Allbery, 65, of North Loup died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Seventh Day Baptist Church with the Rev. Christian Mattison officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside cemetery at North Loup.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be given to the Seventh Day Baptist Church or the North Loup Rescue Unit. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Allbery was born Jan. 29, 1933, at Warsaw, Ill. to Harry and Clara (Riarden) Kirlin. The family moved to Silver Creek, Iowa. She graduated from Silver Creek High School. She married
Lee Allbery on July 25, 1953. The lived at Gretna, Neb., until moving to North Loup in 1993.
Survivors include her husband, Lee Allbery of North Loup; four sons, William of Wahoo, Larry of Gretna, Gerald of Grand Island and Carroll of Muskogee, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Murphy of Los Angeles, Calif.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll Kirlin and a sister, Emma Bolton.
George Anderson
ST. EDWARD - George C. Anderson, 86, of St. Edward died Monday, July 6, 1998, at the Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.
Services are pending with Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
'Edith' Stiger
ORD - Minnie "Edith" Stiger, 95, of Ord died Monday, July 6, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Rosehill cemetery at South Haven, Kan. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.
Mrs. Stiger was born Sept. 30, 1902, at Perth, Kan., to Coll and Minnie McEachern She grew up and received her education in Kansas.
On March 1, 1923, she married
Ernest A. Stiger. The couple lived in the oil fields of Oklahoma, and later moved to Wellington, Kan. Mrs. Stiger did wash and ironing for local people. Mr. Stiger died on June 25, 1977. She continued to live in Wellington until the early 1990s, when she moved to Ord to be near her family. In 1994, she moved to the Valley County Nursing Home.
Mrs. Stiger enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She was a member of the Christian Church in Wellington.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Beulah (Mrs. Cleo) Stiger of Ord; one grandson, Don Stiger of Ord; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by two sons, Donald and Cleo; one granddaughter; and her brothers and sisters.
Myron Harrie
OMAHA -- Myron Harrie, 79, of Omaha died Saturday, July 4, 1998, in at Hallmark Care Center in Omaha.
Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home.
Beulah Scofield
CHAMBERS -- Beulah M. Scofield, 70, of Chambers died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Burwell. The Revs. Greg Volzke and Kevin Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church in Burwell or St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chambers.
Mrs. Scofield was born Oct. 8, 1927, on a ranch near Brewster to Clarence and Ella (Garner) Sinner. She graduated from high school in Taylor, Neb.
On Feb. 23, 1946, she married
Harold Scofield. They were later divorced.
Mrs. Scofield taught school for 45 years. During that time, she went to college on and off working toward her degree. She received her bachelor's degree from Kearney State College in 1974.
She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chambers and was active in many organizations and clubs in the Chambers community. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included traveling, reading, crafts and card games with family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy (Mrs. Vernon) Perrott of Burwell and Marilyn (Mrs. Herb) Truax of Gordon; one son, Bryan Scofield of Omaha; four grandsons, two step-grandchildren; one brother, Lee Sinner of Brewster; and one sister, Betty (Mrs. Floyd) Dunbar of Taylor.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Leonard Sinner and three sisters, Luella Moninger, Leona Sinner and Louise Sinner as an infant.
Guy Fletcher
SEATTLE -- Guy Fletcher, 92, of Seattle, formerly of Taylor, died Thursday, June 30, in Seattle.
Graveside services will be Thursday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at the Kent cemetery east of Taylor. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate.
Additional memorial services are scheduled for July 29 at the United Methodist Church in Taylor.
Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent is in charge of arrangements.
