Leah Roe
WENATCHEE, Wash. -- Leah Roe, 84, of Wenatchee, Wash., formerly of Sargent, died June 27, 1998, in Wenatchee.
Graveside services were held Monday at Mount Hope cemetery in Sargent. The Rev. Samm Johnston officiated.
Mrs. Roe was born April 28, 1914, in Johnstown, Neb., to the Rev. Charles and Sylvia (Brandel) Eastabrook. She was raised in Nebraska; her father served various churches throughout the state.
After her graduation from high school, the family moverd to Washington state.
On April 17, 1938, she married
Edwin Roe of Sargent in Rockford, Wash. They returned to Nebraska and remained until 1956, when they moved to Hayfield, Minn. While in Minnesota, Mrs. Roe worked as a nurse at the Mayo Clinic and the Methodist Hospital in Rochester.
In 1966, she moved back to Washington state. There she worked in nursing homes and hospitals, and also took care of her parents, until she retired.
She is survived by two sons, Carl Roe of Lake City, Minn., and Ronald Roe of East Wenatchee, Wash.; a sister, Evelyn Mae Roe of East Wenatchee, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Doris Blanton of Grass Valley, Calif., and Mrs. Karen Bates of Wenatchee, Wash.; two grandhildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975, an infant son and one sister.
John Eirick
John Eirick, 80, of 143 Pletcher Terrace died Friday, July 17, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. William Voelker will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Eirick was born on Sept. 10, 1917, at Hershey to Phillip and Katherine (Krumm) Eirick. He moved to Lincoln as a young boy and later to the family farm at Cozad. He attended Cozad High School.
He entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II from May 1, 1942, to Dec. 2, 1945. After the service, he moved to Lexington, where he worked at Hickman Construction Co.
He married
Betty Suppas on April 5, 1950, at Beatrice. They moved to Grand Island. He became a lineman for the Grand Island Utilities Department and retired in 1981 after 27 years of service. They moved to Pletcher Terrace in 1993.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1347 and the IBEW City Union.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Tim of Omaha and Greg and Harlan, both of Grand Island; one daughter, Cherrie Eirick of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Stivers of Garden Grove, Calif., and Millie (Mrs. Riney) Suppas of Yucarpa, Calif.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Phillip and Jake.
'Hal' Cumming Jr.
Harold G. "Hal" Cumming Jr., 42, of Grand Island, formerly of North Platte, died July 8, 1998, in Grand Island.
Graveside memorial services were July 10 at Fort McPherson National cemetery in Maxwell with military rites by North Platte veterans organizations. The Rev. Thomas Hyde officiated.
Carpenter Funeral Home of North Platte was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Cumming was born on June 26, 1956, in North Platte to Harold G. Sr. and Dorothy A. (Nielsen) Cumming. He attended North Platte High School.
He entered the U.S. Navy and served until his medical discharge. He worked as a nursing assistant at the North Platte Care Centre until moving to Grand Island in 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Michael and Justin Cumming, both of North Platte; one grandson; five step grandchildren; his parents, of North Platte; one brother, William Cumming of Hershey; and two sisters, Vickie Moran of Jefferson City, Mo., and Diana (Mrs. Lyle) Hasselbring of Lexington.
Terry Matejka
RAVENNA -- Terry Matejka, 49, of Ravenna died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at his home.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna.
Mr. Matejka was born on Dec. 7, 1948, in Ravenna to John and Clara (Naiberk) Matejka. He was educated in Sherman County and graduated from Ravenna High School.
He served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a carpenter and farmer.
Survivors include one daughter, Tamara Sue; two brothers, Franklin and John, both of Grand Island; and one sister, Sherri Carroll of Woodinville, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
'Bob' Sedersten
HASTINGS -- Robert W. "Bob" Sedersten, 42, of Hastings died of natural causes Thursday, July 16, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church. The Rev. David F. Bourek will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery at Hastings.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials are suggested to the Beth and J.J. Sedersten Education Fund.
Mr. Sedersten was born on April 13, 1956, in Hastings to Michael W. and Joyce A. (Cyckosz) Sedersten. He moved to Sutton in 1966 and graduated from Sutton High School in 1974. He returned to Hastings in 1976. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad.
He married
Katie A. Ross on May 28, 1982.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Beth and J.J. Sedersten, both at home; his mother, of Hastings; his father, of Saronville; a sister, Cheryl Penkava of Malcolm; a brother, Ron Sedersten of Grand Island; and grandparents, Deldon and Margaret Sedersten of Sutton.
Elizabeth Seidel
ST. LIBORY -- Elizabeth B. Seidel, 93, of St. Libory died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul.
'Bud' Tessendorf
LOUP CITY -- Norman "Bud" Tessendorf, 80, of Loup City died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel in Columbus with the Rev. Leon Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from noon until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City.
Mr. Tessendorf was born on Dec. 3, 1917, in Platte County to Albert F. and Lydia (Henning) Tessendorf. He attended District 17 School and Zion Lutheran Parochial School. He graduated from Platte Center High School.
He married
Jean Evans on May 27, 1942, at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Platte Center. They lived on a farm until 1952. They moved to Columbus, where he worked for the Columbus Police Department from 1952 to 1960. He was a dispatcher for the Nebraska State Patrol in Grand Island from 1960 to 1980. They moved to Sherman Lake near Loup City in 1988.
He was a member of the Platt-Duetsche in Grand Island and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards and visiting with friends.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Lois (Mrs. Wayne) Huntley of Hastings; one son, Dean Tessendorf of Aurora, Colo.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter; two brothers, Wallace and Walter; and two sisters, Olga Goedeken and Minnie Johnston.
