Hazel Steinmeier
Little Rock, Ark. -- Hazel M. Steinmeier, 79, of Little Rock, Ark., formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at her home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grand Island City cemetery with the Rev. Scott Jones officiating.
Visitation will be from noon until service time Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Mrs. Steinmeier was born on April 26, 1919, in Wood River to Fred A. and Sarah Anne (Virtue) Wilcox. She grew up in Kearney and graduated from Kearney High School in 1936. In her youth, she enjoyed ice skating and gymnastics. She became a great fan of competitions and performance in those sports.
She married
Clarence C. Steinmeier on May 19, 1942, in Grand Island. He died in 1972.
After leaving Nebraska in 1973, she lived in Reseda, Calif., until 1978, when she moved to Little Rock.
She was a member of the Christian Church.
Survivors include one son, Robert Steinmeier of Little Rock; one daughter, Marilyn Garrison of Houston; five grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Kingsbury of Las Vegas and Virginia Davis of Pacoima, Calif.; and one brother, Robert Wilcox of Hastings.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister, Eileen Windolph.
Roger Luft
Roger W. Luft, 55, of Grand Island died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Jocelyn Tupper will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Wyuka cemetery at Lincoln.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis oncology department.
Mr. Luft was born on Feb. 6, 1942, at Grand Island to Lawrence W. and Susan (Vaughn) Luft. He grew up and was educated at rural Cairo.
He married
Donna Dunn on Jan. 27, 1962, at Grand Island.
He married
Jerilyn Zuhlke on June 9, 1990, at Lincoln. The couple lived in Grand Island.
Mr. Luft was a plumber and builder. He owned ABC Seamless Siding until 1996, when he retired due to ill health.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Terry Luft of Lincoln; one daughter, Kerrie Luft of Omaha; a stepdaughter, Victoria Hessheimer of Lincoln; one grandson; four step grandchildren; and his mother, of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Glenn Schnoor
Glenn A. Schnoor, 58, of Grand Island died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997, at St. Francis Skilled Care.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Schnoor was born on March 31, 1939, at Holdrege to Julious and Marie Jo Hanna (Peterson) Schnoor. He attended Kearney Public Schools and graduated from Riverdale High School on May 14, 1958. He lived in Kearney until 1965, when he moved to Grand Island with his mother and grandmother.
He worked for many years in construction and drove a truck. He worked for JIL Asphalt Co. and R.J. Vlach Co.
He enjoyed reading western books and watching western movies. He also enjoyed the outdoors and working on cars.
Survivors include four sons, Tim Schnoor of Grand Island, Terry Schnoor of Wood River and R.T. Schnoor and Zion Schnoor, both of Crete; three daughters, Teresa Schnoor of Grand Island and Tabitha Borges and Twyla Robertson, both of Trenton; and a special friend, Roxane Hunt of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ramona Johnson
STROMSBURG -- Ramona V. Johnson, 71, of Stromsburg died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997, at the York General Hospital.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Kerry Relihan will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Anderson-Dodds-Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Mrs. Johnson was born on Feb. 4, 1926, in Polk County near Osceola to Lawrence and Alice (Gustafson) Swanson. She graduated from Osceola High School in 1943.
She married
Wilmer Johnson on Jan. 25, 1950, at Lincoln.
She was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg and the Free Church Women's Ministries. She was also a member of the You Go, I Go Club.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Duane Johnson of Basin City, Wash.; one daughter, DeAnn (Mrs. Dennis) Garbers of Chapman; five grandchildren; and three brothers, Vernon Swanson of Dallas, Eldon Swanson of rural York and Ron Swanson of Salt Lake City.
Wilber Thomazin
ST. EDWARD -- Wilber E. Thomazin, 84, of St. Edward died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at the Columbus Community Hospital Skilled Care Unit.
Services are pending at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Stephen Willy
HASTINGS -- Stephen E. Willy, 91, of Hastings died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings. The Rev. John J. McCabe will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery at Hastings.
A rosary will be at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Willy was born on Dec. 13, 1905, in Orleans to Simon and Agatha (Burbach) Willy.
He married
Gladys Sieckman on Dec. 24, 1927, in Belleville, Kan. He moved from Deshler to Hastings in 1929 and was part owner of Willy's Body Shop.
He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and UCT and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gerald P. Willy, Jan S. Willy and James A. Willy, all of Hastings; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
'Gabe' Peterson
NORTHGLENN, Colo. -- Gaylord "Gabe" Peterson, 63, of Northglenn, Colo., formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Ord Cemetery. The Rev. James Miller will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Earlier services were on Monday at Rice Mortuary and Crematory at Brighton, Colo.
Mr. Peterson was born on Jan. 20, 1934, at Grand Island to Chris and Zelma (Nelson) Peterson. He grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1951.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He worked with drywall in the Lincoln and Grand Island areas.
He married
Pauline Pool on July 19, 1959, in Grand Island. They lived in Lincoln about 10 years. He had lived in Northglenn for 12 1/2 years.
He enjoyed fishing and camping.
Survivors include three daughters, Katherine Louise Pierce, Suzanne Irene Maness and Mary JoAnn Peterson, all of Longmont, Colo.; two sons, Paul Peterson and Gaylord Dean Peterson, both of Arvada, Colo.; six grandchildren; three brothers, Cedric Peterson of Gering, Enos Peterson of Grand Island and Howard Peterson of Boise, Idaho; one sister, Irene (Mrs. Joseph) Avery of Grand Island; and his fiancee, Arline Busler of Northglenn, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Paul, Floyd, Charles, Robert, Pearl and an infant brother, Lawrence; and two sisters, Virginia Ring and an infant sister, Karna.
