Doris Hirchert
AURORA -- Doris Hirchert, 89, of Aurora died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Aurora United Methodist Church. The Rev. Peggy Michael-Rush will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood cemetery at Chadron.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Hirchert was born on June 9, 1909, at Laurel to William and Mary (Wheeler) Macklem. She graduated from Laurel High School in 1928. She taught school and began her career as a telephone operator in Laurel.
She married
Herman "Red" Hirchert on June 28, 1930, at Boone, Iowa. She drove a truck for her father-in-law. She also worked at her father's cafe. They lived for many years in Chadron, where she worked as a telephone operator for 30 years until retiring in 1973. She moved to Aurora in 1991.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Laurel Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for 40 years, Does and the Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include a son, William Hirchert of Indianapolis; two daughters, Geraldine (Mrs. Robert) Armstrong of Tucson, Ariz., and Janice (Mrs. Robert) Shaw of Aurora; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Ivan and Harold Macklem; and a sister, Rachel Macklem.
'Toni' Maiefski
LOUP CITY -- Antoinette "Toni" Maiefski, 94, of Loup City died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald Urban will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., with a 4 p.m. sodality rosary, Thursday at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City.
Visitation will continue from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service, Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Rose Lane Home.
Mrs. Maiefski was born on Sept. 8, 1904, at Ashton to Francis X. and Eleanora (Badura) Badura. She lived near Ashton and attended St. Francis Parochial School. She also worked at Badura's Store.
She married
Stanley Maiefski on April 16, 1928, at Ashton. The couple owned and operated the Ashton Opera House, where the high school and Catholic school held their plays. They also owned the barber shop and a farm near Ashton.
They later moved to Grand Island. The couple moved in 1987 to Loup City, where she lived at Westside Park. Mr. Maiefski died on March 24, 1989. Mrs. Maiefski lived at Westside Park until April 1995, when she entered the Rose Lane Home.
She enjoyed quilting, reading, playing cards and fishing. She was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church, Council of Catholic Women and the rosary sodality.
She was a former member of St. Mary's Cathedral and its quilting group. She was also a former member of Catholic Daughters and the Ashton American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, Ervin Maiefski of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Carol Bandur of Loup City and Mona (Mrs. Ted) Grabowski of Delta, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley E. Badura, Peter I. Badura and Frank A. Badura; and five sisters, Frances Stobbe, Johanna Kalkowski, Mary Badura, Josephine Badura and Anna Badura.
Marie Ritz
AURORA -- Marie Lucille Ritz, 90, of Aurora died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, at Memorial Community Care in Memorial Hospital at Aurora.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Aurora Evangelical Covenant Church. The Rev. Karl Larson will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Evergreen cemetery at Loup City.
There will be no visitation, but the casket will be open prior to services Thursday at the church. Higby Mortuary of Aurora is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ritz was born on Oct. 9, 1908, in Sherman County near Loup City to Charles and Mary (Kley) Schwaderer. She grew up in the rural Loup City area and attended Wiggle Creek School.
She married
Erich Ritz on Oct. 24, 1929, and the couple farmed in the Loup City, Arcadia and Comstock areas. Upon retirement, they divided their time between Arkansas and Nebraska. She spent her last years in Aurora and the last 13 months at Memorial Community Care.
She was a charter member of the Wescott Baptist Church in Comstock and attended the Twin Springs Christian Church in Siloam Springs, Ark., and the Evangelical Covenant Church in Aurora while her health permitted.
Survivors include one son, Arthur "Bud" Ritz of Siloam Springs, Ark.; two daughters, Carolyn (Mrs. Ernest) Moravec of Morrill, Kan., and Maxine (Mrs. Byron) Lewin of Aurora; 13 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, six sisters, three grandsons and four brothers.
Ivan Sundberg
STROMSBURG -- Ivan D. Sundberg, 91, of Stromsburg died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, at the York General Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Robert Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the York Cemetery.
Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sundberg was born on Nov. 6, 1906, one mile north of Stromsburg to Albert and Selma (Gustafson) Sundberg. He attended Stromsburg schools and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1925. He then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one year.
He married
Zelma A. Garretson on March 9, 1929, at Aurora.
He began working for the Burlington Railroad as a signalman and a supervisor. He and his family lived in various towns around the country from Minneapolis to Chicago to Denver. Mr. Sundberg retired from the railroad after 34 years. The couple moved to Stromsburg in 1971.
He attended the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg, was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Sam's Club camping group and the National Campers and Hikers Association.
Survivors include his wife, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Gerald L. Sundberg; one brother, Dean Sundberg; and one sister, Alice Johnson.
Margaret Mosier
SPALDING -- Margaret L. Mosier, 77, of Spalding died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, at Colorado Springs, Colo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Spalding. Larry Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in Grand View cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Dolce-Scheef Mortuary in Spalding.
Memorials are suggested to the Margaret Mosier Scholarship Fund.
Mrs. Mosier was born on March 2, 1921, in Studley, Kan., to Ray and Irene (Bailey) Davis. She graduated from Sheridan Community High School in Hoxie, Kan. She graduated from nurse's training at Cushing Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan., and then served as a first lieutenant in the Army Nurses Corps in the European theater from 1944 to 1946. Following World War II, she graduated from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan.
She married
Ross Mosier on Sept. 5, 1949, at her parents' home in Studley, Kan. They lived in Manhattan, Kan., until 1952, when they moved to Lone Tree, Iowa. Later that year, the Mosiers moved to Spalding, where they began a veterinary practice that continues today.
Mrs. Mosier enjoyed helping manage the Mosier farms. Her hobbies included quilting and traveling.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Dr. Carol Mosier Bach of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sons, Richard and Jack, both of Spalding; eight grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn Mollhagen of Hutchinson, Kan.; and one brother, Richard Davis of Studley, Kan.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. George Davis.
Ruby Boyll
Ruby May Boyll, 80, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Robert Gannon will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday with family present at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Fern Goff
ORD - Fern Ethel Goff, 87, of Ord died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ord Christian Church. The Revs. Michael Chase and Jim Miller will officiate. The Ord Rebekah Lodge will conduct additional services at the church. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Rebekah Lodge or the familyšs choice.
Mrs. Goff was born on Feb. 13, 1911, at Beaver Crossing to Claude and Hattie (Gerber) Richardson. They moved to Valley County in 1923. She grew up and attended rural schools in Seward and Valley counties. While attending high school, she worked part time for Dr. C.C. Sheperd. She graduated from Ord High School in 1929 as valedictorian.
She married
Herbert L. Goff on May 24, 1929, in Grand Island. The couple farmed in Valley County throughout their marriage. Mr. Goff died on Sept. 20, 1996.
In her later years, Mrs. Goff received care from her daughter, Twila Holzinger. She also lived at the Corner Cottage in Ord. She moved to the Valley County Nursing Home in 1996.
She enjoyed farm life. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and held the office of past noble grand and other offices. She was a member of the Ord Christian Church, the Ladies Aid Circle and the Springdale Extension Club. She conducted Stanley parties for more than 30 years.
Survivors include one son, Wayne of Grand Island; one daughter, Twila (Mrs. Jerry) Holzinger of Ord; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; two step great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Wilma Whitaker of Chambers and Thelma Lockhart of Bentonville, Ark.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
