Donald Hoy
FULLERTON - Donald A. Hoy, 80, of Fullerton died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Tommy Schirm
ST. PAUL - Tommy G. Schirm, 20, of St. Paul died Monday, July 13, 1998, as the result of a car accident south of St. Paul.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. James Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Schirm was born on Jan. 29, 1978, in St. Paul to Robert Sr. and Sharon (Shriner) Schirm. He grew up in Cushing and attended schools in St. Paul, where he graduated in 1996. At the time of his death, he was working for Hansen Construction of Cushing.
He enjoyed working on his car and listening to music.
Survivors include his father and mother, Robert Schirm Sr. and Sharon Schirm, both of St. Paul; four brothers, Kevin Shriner, Robert Schirm Jr., Tony Schirm and Travis Schirm, all of St. Paul; two sisters, Shairee (Mrs. Glen) Killion of Palmer and Jamie (Mrs. Rich) Brass of Broken Bow; paternal grandmother, Opal Schirm of Vinton, Iowa; and maternal grandparents, Glenn and Helen Shriner of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Susan Bailey; and his paternal grandfather, George Schirm.
Oscar Sundberg
POLK - Oscar Sundberg, 103, of Polk died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Polk United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jeffery Thurman will officiate. Burial will be in the Polk Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Solt Funeral Home in Polk.
Mr. Sundberg was born on Feb. 14, 1895, on a farm north of Polk to Henry and Anna (Anderson) Sundberg. He grew up on a farm and attended country school.
At the age of 11, he helped haul lumber and brick from Stromsburg to his father, who built two buildings for the new town of Polk. He helped his father farm until 1917, when he left for World War I. He returned in 1919 and spent eight months at business school in Portland, Ore.
He returned to Polk in 1921 and bought into Sundberg and Son Hardware Store. He helped manage the store for 65 years, 43 of those with his brother, Albert Sundberg.
He married
Violet Zuver on Nov. 2, 1924. She died on July 9, 1995.
Mr. Sundberg was a member of the United Methodist Church for almost 75 years, a lifelong member of American Legion Post 160, Layman of the Year, sang in the choir and served on various church boards. He taught Sunday school, served on the school board for eight years and was active in various community affairs.
Survivors include one son, Jim Sundberg of Polk; two daughters, Donna (Mrs. Gene) Bauer of Sutton and Janice Saylor of Polk; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
David Brison
OMAHA - David K. Brison, 58, of Omaha, formerly of Grand Island, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Donald Larmore officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m., with a wake service at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Brison was born on June 21, 1940, at Chelan, Wash., to Arthur and Bertha (Kruse) Brison. He was raised and educated in Spokane, Wash. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served for three years.
He married
Carol Michalski on Aug. 31, 1961, at Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island until moving to Omaha in 1986. He was employed at Nebraska Office Service in Grand Island for many years. In Omaha, he worked for EX-CEL Solutions as a computer systems specialist.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Grand Island Jaycees and the Catholic faith.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth Brison of Gretna and Joseph Brison of Springfield; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Art of Grantsdale, Mont., and Bill and Ed, both of Spokane, Wash.; and two sisters, Arlene Thomas of Spokane, Wash., and Betty Butkowski of Seattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Bert Hays
YORK - Bert W. Hays, 91, of York, formerly of the Trumbull, Giltner and Aurora areas, died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at the Hearthstone Care Center in York.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Giltner United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dwight Delaet will officiate. Mr. Hays will be cremated.
Private family burial will be at a later date in the Giltner Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Lewis Funeral Chapel of York is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Hays was born on June 18, 1907, at Jeffersonville, Ind., to Bert A. and Indiana C. (Williams) Hays. He grew up in the Trumbull and Giltner area and graduated from Trumbull High School in 1925. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one year.
He married
Mildred L. Wunderlich on June 7, 1931, at Giltner. The couple farmed in the Trumbull and Giltner area for many years before moving to Aurora in 1975.
Due to declining health, the couple moved to the Hearthstone Care Center in 1995.
He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, affiliated with the Giltner, Phillips and Aurora lodges, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star at Giltner and the Scottish Rite Masons at Hastings. He was a member of the Lions Club at Giltner and Aurora and the Family Campers RVers.
He was active in the Senior Citizens Group at Aurora. He served on the Giltner school board and drove a school bus for the Giltner school system for many years. He was a longtime member of the Equity Union Co-op board and the Giltner and Aurora United Methodist churches.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sheila A. (Mrs. Gary L.) Hubbard of York; two sons, E.W. "Will" Hays of San Diego and Wayne Hays of Malibu, Calif.; one foster daughter, Faith Scott of Colony, Texas; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five foster grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Rae.
Donna Harrison
Donna R. Harrison, 65, of Grand Island died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Gollaher Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
The casket will be closed, but the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Harrison was born on Oct. 16, 1932, at Grand Island to Edward H. and Lela (Weller) Miller. She grew up and was educated in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1950. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone for seven years.
She married
Philip R. Harrison on Feb. 14, 1954, at Grand Island. The couple lived on a farm west of Grand Island. Mr. Harrison died in 1987.
Mrs. Harrison was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Ruth Circle.
Survivors include two daughters, Melinda S. Bazata of Elm Creek and Carol A. Woodman of Kearney; one son, Jim P. Harrison of Arcadia; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Millie Dahlke of Grand Island and Shirley Gronfeldt of Boulder City, Nev.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Edward Miller.
