Louise Kully
Louise Kully, 88, of 2419 W. Anna died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at Community Care of America in Grand Island.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
'Milly' Vermillion
Mildred E. "Milly" Vermillion, 85, of 2411 W. 18th died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at Park Place Nursing Center.
Mrs. Vermillion will be cremated. There will be no visitation and no services.
Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Vermillion was born on Oct. 11, 1912, in Chicago to George and Margarite (Robertson) Harpold. She was educated in Chicago.
She married
Walter Vermillion in 1933 in Chicago. The couple lived in the Chicago area, where she worked for Northwestern Bell. The couple moved to Omaha in 1970, and she continued to work for the phone company. Mrs. Vermillion moved to Grand Island in 1985 and then retired.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen of Dixon, Ill.; and one sister, Gracia Chaulk of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, James Vermillion.
Ronald Campbell
WOOD RIVER -- Ronald Campbell, 68, of Wood River died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Lutheran Valley Hospital in Mesa, Ariz.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wood River. The Rev. Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery in Wood River.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, Friday at the church.
Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Campbell was born on Dec. 20, 1929, in Grand Island to Claude E. and Phyllis (Dodd) Campbell. He grew up in Shelton and graduated from school there in 1948.
He entered the military in May 1951, served 18 months in Korea and was discharged in April 1953.
He married
Evelyn Morosic on June 6, 1953, in Wood River. They lived in Wood River. He worked at New Holland in Grand Island for 23 years before retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Wood River American Legion and St. Mary's Catholic Church and a past member of the Wood River school board.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Deb (Mrs. Dave) Harders of Alda, Rae Ann (Mrs. Ray) Saunders of Grand Island and Suzanne (Mrs. Bruce) Lans of Stamford; eight grandchildren; and two brothers, Harold Campbell of Republican City and Gary Campbell of North Platte.
Ralph Lewis
SHELTON -- Ralph Claire Lewis, 77, of Shelton died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Shelton United Methodist Church. The Rev. Charles Spence will officiate. Burial will be in the Shelton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Shelton United Methodist Church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Shelton Township Library Foundation.

Mr. Lewis was born on Jan. 27, 1920, on a farm near Fairmont to Claire William and Henrietta (Usher) Lewis. He attended a rural school and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1937.
After graduation, he delivered meat on a rural route for a grocery store in Fairmont. As a young man, he began farming with his father and his brother, Walt. His family moved to a farm near Shelton in 1938. He later joined them and continued farming.
He married
Dorothy Marie Oliver on June 2, 1949. The couple farmed in the Shelton area, and their son, Ron, later joined the farming operation. Mr. Lewis was diagnosed in 1981 with Parkinson's disease, which eventually forced him to retire from farming.
He was a 49-year member of Elks Lodge 984 in Kearney. He served on the Shelton Township Board for many years and also on the Shelton school board and rural fire board. He also served on the Buffalo County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service committee for several years and was a member of the United Methodist Men. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards.
Survivors include a son, Ron Lewis of Shelton; two daughters, Jan (Mrs. Bob) Dvorak of Lincoln and Jo (Mrs. Ron) Pohl of Shelton; five grandchildren; and one sister, Maxine Conroy of Wood River.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one sister and one brother.
Eric Pedersen
BOELUS -- Eric Pedersen, 84, of Boelus died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church Family Center in Dannebrog. The Rev. Rob Pearson will officiate. Burial will be in the Loup Forks cemetery near Boelus.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to New Hope School.
Mr. Pedersen was born on Aug. 1, 1913, at Tylstrup, Denmark, to Jens and Johanna (Jensen) Pedersen. The family came to America in 1916. They settled in Elkhorn, Iowa, and then moved to Dannevirke, where he attended a country school.
The family moved to Boelus in 1921, and he attended school through the ninth grade. He worked for farmers and part time for Central Power Co. He went out west several times to work in the apple harvest.
He married
Anita Hyde on Dec. 2, 1936, in Aurora. They lived in Boelus until 1939, when he moved to Denver and worked for Arapahoe Foundry. They returned to Boelus in 1942. He worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant as a guard and in the tin shop.
They purchased a farm northeast of Boelus in 1943. He worked for Central Power Co. as the head gate operator and began farming in 1948. He also started working at Silas-Mason Defense Plant. In 1953, they bought a farm on the east edge of Boelus, where they ran a dairy.
They purchased a house in Boelus in 1996 and retired.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, outdoor activities and reading. He had served a term on the Boelus school board.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Randall of Royal and Charles of Kearney; one daughter, Barbara (Mrs. John) Holum of Washington, D.C.; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Norman of Boelus and Lyle of Grand Island; and three sisters, Helga Olferd of Marysville, Mo., Leona Rasmussen of Burlington Junction, Mo., and Erma Sorensen of San Diego.
He was preceded in death by one great-grandson; two brothers, Ofert and Herluf; and two sisters, Emma Sorensen and an infant sister, Gladys.
Jerald 'Jerry' VanWinkle
OMAHA -- Jerald "Jerry" L. VanWinkle, 65, formerly of Central City and Burwell, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Dale Sallans officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell, following a short service at 2:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. VanWinkle was born on March 2, 1932, in Burwell to Lee Jr. and Alberta (Hartford) VanWinkle. He lived on several farms in Garfield County, where he attended rural schools. He attended high school in Burwell and graduated from Ord High School in 1950.
Mr. VanWinkle worked in the Ord area before serving in the U.S. Air Force from May 1952 to May 1956.
He married
Irene Svoboda on Oct. 18, 1953, in Ord. They lived in Denver until May 1958, when they returned to Nebraska. After working at Bassett and Ord, Mr. VanWinkle became a state driver's license examiner. During his 13 years as an examiner, the VanWinkles lived in Kearney, Bridgeport and Central City.
He started working for the Central City Street Department in 1977. He retired in September 1992 after becoming ill with Pick's disease. He entered the Grand Island Veterans Home in November 1993, following a short stay at the Fullerton Nursing Home. He moved to the T. Fitzgerald Veterans Home in Omaha in January 1996.
Mr. VanWinkle enjoyed yard and garden work, camping, Czech music and church and community activities. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Lone Tree Masonic Lodge, Arbor Chapter 22 Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Doug of Omaha; a daughter, Lisa (Mrs. Tracy) Hilder of Omaha; five grandsons; and three brothers, Ardona of San Diego, Roy of Ainsworth and Gene of Vancleave, Miss.
