'Russell' Fox
Irvin "Russell" Fox, 82, of Grand Island died Monday, April 12, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Vernon Rice will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
Mr. Fox was born on Nov. 24, 1916, at Taylor to Issac E. and Pearl I. (Hall) Fox.
He was a member of the Salvation Army Church.
Survivors include several cousins.
He was preceded in death by one brother, George Fox.
Neville Cargill
SCOTIA -- Neville Cargill, 88, of Scotia died Monday, April 12, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services are pending at Ord Memorial Chapel.
John Foster
HASTINGS -- John B. Foster, 88, of Hastings died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church Chapel in Hastings. The Rev. Carl W. Utley will officiate. There will be private family burial. There will be no visitation. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Foster was born Dec. 11, 1910, in Stockton, Kan., to Charles William and Maude (Hubble) Foster. He graduated from Sedan High School in Sedan, Kan., in 1924. He graduated from Engineering School in Los Angeles in 1930.
He married
Eva Jones in 1935. He served in the U.S. Navy from November 1943 until December 1945. He was superintendent or manager of Municipal Utilities in numerous cities including, Ashland, Kan., Norton, Kan., Hastings and Alliance for a total of 55 years.
On July 8, 1967, he married
Virginia Sidlinger Gustafson in Grand Isand.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a trustee and also a deacon. He was past president of Engineer and Operations Workshop, president and director of American Public Gas Association, secretary of League of Municipalities of Nebraska, past president of Kansas Association of Municipalities and member of Governor's Commission.
Survivors include his wife; one son, William L. Foster of Goodland, Kan.; one step daughter, Deborah (Mrs. Dennis) Lyons of Grand Island; two stepsons, Stephen C. Gustafson of Peoria, Ill., and Mark M. Gustafson of Tempe, Ariz.; and eight step grandchildren.
Ethel Hide
HASTINGS -- Ethel Cecilia Hide, 94, of Villa Grace, Good Samaritan Village, in Hastings died Sunday, April 11, 1999.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Hastings. The Rev. Earl Higgins will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery at Hastings.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Further visitation will be one hour before services Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Hide was born on Sept. 22, 1904, in Denver to Anthony M. and Flora (Johnson) Leafdale. She graduated from Potter High School in 1923.
She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, Hastings College and Platte Valley Commercial College. She moved to Hastings in 1925 and was a stenographer with Standard Oil.
She married
Clarence R. Hide on July 19, 1931. Mr. Hide died in 1987.
Mrs. Hide was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker, an accomplished artist and was active in many organizations.
She was a past member of the Hastings Community Theater, American Literature Club, Toastmistress, Acacia Chapter 39 Order of the Eastern Star, Phi Sigma Alpha, Rock Club, YWCA, United Methodist Women, Hastings Women's Club and Hastings Art Club.
Survivors include one son, Donald Hide of Arlington, Texas; one daughter, Arlene (Mrs. David) Schmidt of Hastings; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son and two brothers.
Vanessa Mejia
KEARNEY -- Vanessa Mejia, 4-month-old daughter of Mario Jr. and Rhoda (Randel) Mejia of Kearney, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney. The Revs. Don Rodriguez and Harold Stratton will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery in Gibbon.
Visitation will be one hour before service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include her parents; one sister, Victoria at home; paternal grandfather, Mario Mejia Sr. of Kearney; and maternal grandparents, Dwaine and Lena Randel of Miltonvale, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother.
Marie Moeller
WOOD RIVER -- Marie A. Moeller, 90, formerly of Shelton, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Martin Egging will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Moeller was born on Sept. 30, 1908, in LeMars, Iowa, to George and Margaret (Dirks) Oltmanns. She moved to Chester, S.D., as a young girl.
She married
Clifford Moeller on March 25, 1934. The couple lived in Chester and Madison, S.D., until moving to a farm north of Kenesaw in 1950. They lived there until moving to Shelton in 1959.
Mr. Moeller died on April 22, 1972. Mrs. Moeller lived in Shelton until moving to the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River in 1993.
Mrs. Moeller was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret (Mrs. Larry) Dillon of Grand Island; a son, Dwane Moeller of Hastings; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Leonard and Ron; and four brothers.
George Stroup
ST. EDWARD -- George Roland Stroup, 80, of St. Edward died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Fullerton Manor.
Services are pending with Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Mamie Milliken
WAYNE -- Mamie Frances Milliken, 92, of Wayne died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Wayne Care Centre.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Wayne. The Rev. Susan Banholzer will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery at Wayne.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Schumacher-Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to church or the family's choice.
Mrs. Milliken was born on Dec. 31, 1906, on a farm near Wayne to Alvin G. and Maggie May (Lindsay) Wert. She attended Wayne public schools and Wayne State College.
She married
Donald C. Milliken on Jan. 22, 1926, at the Presbyterian Church in Wayne. The couple lived in Wayne County throughout their marriage and farmed southwest of Wayne.
Mrs. Milliken taught in a rural school in Wayne County for several years and farmed with her husband. The couple retired from the farm in 1961. She then worked at Wayne State College for several years after moving into Wayne.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wayne.
Survivors include one daughter, Beverly (Mrs. Gaylord "Pete") Peterson of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mildred (Mrs. Albert) Gamble of Wayne and Ruth (Mrs. Malvin) Bruns of Wayne.
She was preceded in death by husband, one daughter, four brothers and two sisters.
