Roy Woodring
CENTRAL CITY -- Roy Woodring, 84, of Central City died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services are pending for Saturday with Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Adeline Schmidt
ANSELMO -- Adeline Schmidt, 97, of Broken Bow, formerly of Anselmo, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View cemetery at Anselmo.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Anselmo Library.
Mrs. Schmidt was born on March 8, 1900, on a farm west of Anselmo to William and Elizabeth (Brown) Anderson. She attended rural school and later taught rural school northeast of Anselmo.
She married
Bert Schmidt on May 6, 1920. They lived in the Ortello Valley community and the Anselmo area throughout their marriage. Mr. Schmidt died in 1980.
Mrs. Schmidt was a member of several card clubs.
Survivors include two daughters, Arlene (Mrs. Vernon) White and Ruby (Mrs. Charles) Booth, both of Broken Bow; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, three brothers and one sister.
Minnie Kobza
Shelby -- Minnie M. Kobza, 83, of Shelby died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at St. Joseph's Villa in David City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby with the Rev. John Copenhaver officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary, Sunday at Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home in Osceola.
Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's Villa in David City.
Mrs. Kobza was born on April 20, 1914, at Bruno to Edward and Clotilda (Koza) Hlavac. She grew up in Butler County and attended rural schools.
He married
Sylvester Kobza on June 19, 1944, at Bruno. The couple lived in rural Shelby, where they farmed.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include three sons, Sylvester J. of Ridgefield, Wash., Dan of Grand Island and David of Lincoln; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Edward Hlavac of Downey, Calif.; and one sister, Celstine Roh of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and one sister.
Carol Brashears
ELKADER, Iowa -- Carol May Brashears, 73, of Elkader, Iowa, formerly of Newman Grove and Grand Island, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at the Chateau Royale Hospice in Prairie Du Schien, Wis., from complications of Parkinson's disease.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Newman Grove. The Rev. Janet Mowery will officiate. Burial will be in Hope cemetery at Newman Grove.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Newman Grove Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Brashears was born on July 19, 1924, in Platte County. She graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1942. She taught school in Cornlea and worked at Olson Grocery and the City Cafe in Newman Grove and at Diamond Plastics in Grand Island.
She married
Howard C. Johnson of Newman Grove in 1943. Mr. Johnson died in 1972.
She married
Joe C. Brashears of Albuquerque, N.M., in 1979. He died in 1987. She lived in Albuquerque until 1993, when she went to live with her daughter Frances in Elkader, Iowa.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond of Glasgow, Mont., and Russell of Grand Island; two daughters, Frances (Mrs. David) Derhammer of Elkader, Iowa, and Patty (Mrs. Fred) Veling of Beaver Dam, Wis.; a stepson, James Brashears of Albuquerque, N.M.; three stepdaughters, Betty Joe Tiley of Farmington, N.M., Ada Olsen of Aztec, N.M., and Shirley Garret of Albuquerque, N.M.; seven grandchildren; six step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Keith Stewart of Seattle, Vern Stewart of Kalispell, Mont., Guy Stewart of Tiron, N.M., and Glen Stewart of Albion; and two sisters, Wilma Schultz and Laurel Morris, both of Omaha.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by one brother.
Gerald Eller
Gerald G. Eller, 51, of Grand Island died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Schmitt will officiate. Burial will be in Ohio.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Westside Youth Bowling League or Central Catholic Fine Arts Guild.
Mr. Eller was born on Nov. 12, 1946, at Ashtabula, Ohio, to Merrell and Arlene (George) Eller. He grew up and was educated in Geneva, Ohio, graduating from Geneva Senior High School in 1964. He furthered his education at Lakeland Community College in Mentor, Ohio.
He entered the U.S. Air Force on Feb. 7, 1966, served in Vietnam and received his discharge on Feb. 6, 1972.
He returned to Cleveland and married
Deborah Friedel there on Nov. 24, 1973. The couple lived in Cleveland, where he worked for Forest City as a buyer. In 1987, the family moved to Grand Island, where he worked for Country General as a buyer.
He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church and was very involved with the Youth Bowling League at Westside Lanes.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Brooke Salmon and Shannon Eller, both of Grand Island; one son, Brandon Eller of Grand Island; his mother, Arlene Mullin of Geneva, Ohio; and one sister, Pat May of Ashtabula, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his father, Merrell.
Charles Thomas
Charles F. Thomas, 74, of Grand Island died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at the St. Francis Medical Center emergency room.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Lemons will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Ida Heil
LOUP CITY -- Ida Heil, 97, of Loup City died Friday, June 5, 1998, at Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Loup City. The Revs. Heidi Revelo and Douglas DeNeui will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City.
