Glen Nelson Jr.
BROKEN BOW -- Glen Einer Nelson Jr., 27, of Broken Bow died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Mr. Nelson will be cremated.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
A memorial has been established to the family.
Mr. Nelson was born on July 7, 1970, at Denver to Glen E. Sr. and Vicki (Applegarth) Nelson. He lived in Denver until moving to Broken Bow in 1980. After his education, he lived in several communities and also attended college at Norfolk.
He married
Denise Shirkey on April 18, 1992, at Westerville. They lived in Broken Bow.
Mr. Nelson enjoyed fishing, bowling and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Brandon Shirkey, Tanner Nelson, Brittany Nelson and Victoria Nelson, all of Broken Bow; two brothers, David Nelson of Charlotte Harbor, Fla., and Donald Nelson of Port Charlotte, Fla.; one sister, Deborah Devine of North Glenn, Colo.; maternal grandfather, Lawrence Applegarth of Thornton, Colo.; paternal grandmother, Louise Lenstrom of Spokane, Wash.; and maternal great-grandmother, Nellie Applegarth of Broken Bow.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother and paternal grandfather.
Axel Rudeen
STROMSBURG -- Axel E. Rudeen, 94, of Stromsburg died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Midwest Covenant Home chapel. Chaplain Dick Bauer will officiate. Burial will be in LaCleed cemetery near Polk.
Palmer Funeral Home of Stromsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Clarice Allely
Clarice A. Allely, 82, of Grand Island died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Wyuka cemetery in Lincoln.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family present from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Allely was born on May 26, 1916, at Lincoln to Clyde C. and Bertha (Corey) Pinkerton. She grew up in Lincoln and graduated from Havelock High School in 1933.
She married
Ralph Allely on Dec. 28, 1941, at Lincoln. The couple moved to Bellaire, Texas, in 1948 and to Grand Island in 1962. She worked in Grand Island as a bookkeeper for Meyer's Jewelry and Martha Heimbuch Accounting Service.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, HMC Sewing Club, Christian Women's Group and Friday Nighters Group and a former member of the Liederkranz. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and Nebraska football.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Steven R. Allely of Lincoln; two daughters, Karen Sennentz of Kearney and Kathy of Lincoln; five granddaughters; three great-grandsons; one brother, Francis Pinkerton of Lincoln; and one sister, Margaret Henninger of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Lela Boroff
Lela M. Boroff, 87, of Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Park Place.
Services are pending at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Irving Phillips
Irving D. Phillips, 88, of Grand Island died Monday, July 13, 1998, at the Hillcrest Nursing Center in McCook.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. George Wheat will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family present from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the church.
Mr. Phillips was born on July 8, 1910, in Laurel to Frank and Della (Potter) Phillips. He grew up in Laurel and was educated in Cedar County.
He married
Mildred Snodgrass on March 2, 1935, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 during World War II. The couple lived in Fullerton. They moved to Central City in 1940 and then to Grand Island in 1955. He worked for the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. He also worked for the city of Grand Island before retiring in 1972. Mrs. Phillips died in 1984.
Mr. Phillips was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Duane Phillips of Bartley; two daughters, Helen (Mrs. David) Webb of Longmont, Colo., and Donna (Mrs. Delbert) Tolliver of Elmwood; eight grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, four sisters and four brothers.
Hulda Schultz
Hulda D. Schultz, 98, of Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at the center.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. John Douglas Russell will officiate. There will be no visitation.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Schultz was born on Nov. 15, 1899, at Grand Island to John and Metha (Joehnck) Meves. She was employed at Martin's Department Store prior to her marriage.
She married
William Schultz on Nov. 14, 1923, at Grand Island. The couple farmed southwest of Grand Island before moving to town in 1952.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, the Sunny Sues Extension Club and the Platt-Duetsche Ladies Society. She was past president of the Colonial Club of the Eagles.
Survivors include two daughters, Eleanor (Mrs. Wilber) Gannon and Lorraine (Mrs. Richard) Dehning, both of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Detlef Meves; and two sisters, Marie Meves and Viola Reynolds.
Camille A. Voorhees
Camille A. Voorhees, 83, of Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at the nursing home.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sonderman Funeral Home.
Florene Borgelt
ERICSON -- Florene Borgelt, 71, of Ericson died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Integrated Health Services in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk. The Revs. Frank Maurer and Richard Tino will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Norfolk.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Home for Funerals in Norfolk.
Marie Diefenbaugh
LITCHFIELD -- Marie A. Diefenbaugh, 86, of Litchfield died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church in Hazard. The Rev. Dean Hanson will officiate. Burial will be in the Litchfield Cemetery.
Rasmussen Mortuary of Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Diefenbaugh was born on June 15, 1912, in Sherman County to Henry and Pauline (Zeller) Kohls. She was educated at Clear Creek Rural School and graduated from Litchfield High School. She taught in rural schools near Litchfield prior to her marriage.
She married
Herschel Diefenbaugh on May 27, 1936. The couple farmed in the Litchfield area for 40 years. They retired in 1976 and moved into Litchfield.
Her husband died on Sept. 26, 1988.
Mrs. Diefenbaugh was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hazard.
Survivors include one daughter, Doris McAuliff of Litchfield; one grandson; one brother, Eldor Kohls of Litchfield; and three sisters, Pauline Douglas of Kearney, Leona Shaffer of Papillion and Erma Curry of Ravenna.
