Velma Gray
AURORA -- Velma Gray, 77, of Aurora died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, in Memorial Community Care at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Aurora Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Garfield will officiate. Higby Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gray was born on Feb. 19, 1920, at Aurora to Charles and "Jennie" (Moran) Newlun.
She married
Orville Gray on April 6, 1940, at Grand Island. They lived in Aurora until 1962, when they moved to Colorado. They moved to Indiana in 1965 and moved back to Aurora in 1966. Mr. Gray died on Nov. 19, 1988. Mrs. Gray had lived at Memorial Community Care in Aurora for the past few months.
She was affiliated with the Aurora Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include one son, Philip of Aurora; one daughter, Kay (Mrs. LeRoy) Gallegos of Aurora; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Naomi Shedd of San Pablo, Calif.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Jim; two brothers, Darold and Ernest Newlun; and three sisters, Mildred Buchanan, Lavada Hannan and Virginia Derr.
'Charlotte' Jensen
NORTH LOUP -- Mary "Charlotte" Jensen, 96, of North Loup died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the North Loup United Methodist Church. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcadia City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the church or to the North Loup Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Unit.
Val McCarty
HASTINGS -- Val McCarty, 68, of Hastings died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at the St. Francis Medical Center skilled care unit.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings. The Rev. David F. Bourek will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery at Hastings.
A rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. There will be a private family viewing. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or St. Francis Skilled Care.
Mrs. McCarty was born on Jan. 8, 1930, in Phillips County, Colo., to Harold and Francis (Boro) Senstock. She moved to Hastings as a young girl. She owned and operated Val's Cafe from 1960 to 1963. She then worked as a secretary for ABC Electric for six years.
She married
John J. McCarty on April 4, 1969. She was a homemaker. She also volunteered with the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for 10 years.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Diana Medley of Harvard and Penny Sanders of Hastings; one son, Raymond L. Perkins of Hastings; four stepsons, John J. McCarty of Lexington, Dr. Michael McCarty of Grand Island, Dan McCarty of London, England, and Kevin McCarty of Kearney; two stepdaughters, Marlene Casey of Hutchinson, Kan., and Kim Gangwish of Shelton; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Merlena Hartmann of Gretna, Myra Krahmer of Yutan and Verniece Sadd of Harvard.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Hendricks; and one brother, Lonnie Senstock.
William Placke
ST. LIBORY -- William A. Placke, 65, of St. Libory died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at his home.
Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul.
Walter Webster
WOOD RIVER -- Walter D. Webster, 88, of Wood River died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Wood River. The Rev. Larry Nothstine will officiate. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Webster was born on Sept. 2, 1909, at Gibbon to Carl and Hattie (Roach) Webster. He grew up in Gibbon and attended school there.
He married
Dorothy Camp on May 19, 1931, in Smith Center, Kan. The couple moved to Gibbon and then to a farm east of Wood River in 1947. They moved to a new home in Wood River in 1973. Mr. Webster was a well-known farmer in the area.
Survivors include three sons, L. James Webster of Loveland, Colo., and Richard W. and John D. Webster, both of Wood River; one daughter, E. Marlea (Mrs. Ray) Lassonde of Grand Island; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hazel Cox of Amboy, Minn.
His wife died on Feb. 13, 1996. He also was preceded in death by one grandson, one great-great-grandson and two brothers.
'Jim' Van Trump
Salt Lake City -- James Isaiah "Jim" Van Trump, 87, formerly of Greeley and Grand Island, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, in Salt Lake City.
His ashes will be interred at the LaGrange, Wyo., cemetery at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Van Trump was born on Dec. 7, 1910, in Greeley to Frances and Anna Van Trump. As a young man, he worked in the beet harvest in western Nebraska and northeast Colorado.
He married
June Spellman of Wood River on May 9, 1941, and started his own trucking company. He was an explosives expert with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and helped build air strips for U.S. planes on Okinawa.
After the war, he returned to Wood River and began farming. He later homesteaded in the Riverton, Wyo., area before going to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. He moved to Hillsdale and later to LaGrange, Wyo. Following his retirement, he returned to Grand Island for several years.
Survivors include four sons, Dr. James Van Trump of Wilmington, Del., Lonnie Van Trump of Sheridan, Wyo., Bill Van Trump of Bluffdale, Utah, and Larry Van Trump of Green Bay, Wis.; two daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Mike) Hall of Broadwater and Lane (Mrs. Mike) Helgerson of Mitchell; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
His wife died on Nov. 7, 1977. He also was preceded in death by and an infant son, David.
Luis Aguilera
Luis Antonio Aguilera, 8-month-old son of Frostina (Schmidt) Aguilera of Grand Island and the late Isaias Aguilera, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Luis was born on March 5, 1998, at Aurora. The family lived in Grand Island.
Robert Beberniss
Robert Beberniss, 101, of Grand Island died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Vern Rice will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Survivors include two daughters, Lucille Wiese and Maxine (Mrs. Don) Morris of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
His wife died in July 1988. He also was preceded in death by a great-grandson, four brothers and seven sisters.
