Helen Osentowski
ORD -- Helen Osentowski, 93, of Ord died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Revs. Jim Warner and Stanley Gorak will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., Friday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the nursing home or to St. Mary's Catholic School.
Alfred Rieck
ALBION -- Alfred Henry Adolph Rieck, 93, of Albion died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. The Rev. Larry Spomer will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery at Albion.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Rieck was born on Jan. 29, 1905, on a Boone County farm north of Primrose to Adolph and Anna (Yeager) Rieck. He attended District 52 School, "The Red Schoolhouse," which was near where he was born and raised.
He married
Irma Neidhardt on Aug. 2, 1931, at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. They bought a farm near the Boone/Greeley county line on Highway 91 in the 1940s and lived there until retiring and moving into Albion in 1973. With their health failing, they moved into the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion on July 1, 1997.
He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing cards with various card clubs.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carol Ann Primrose of Estes Park, Colo., and Elaine (Mrs. Irvin) Biel of Elkhorn; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Herman.
Lynn Scott
St. Paul -- Lynn H. Scott, 98, of St. Paul died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Mr. Scott was cremated. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. Ellen Campbell will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Rose Hill cemetery at Palmer.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Scott was born on Oct. 22, 1900, on the family farm in the Gage Valley area near St. Paul to William and Sarah (Baird) Scott. He was educated at District 60 School in Howard County. As a teen-ager, he lived with his family at Rouch, Ore., and Pomona, Calif., where he finished his education.
He married
Oma Stone on Sept. 6, 1922, at Grand Island. The couple lived in Gage Valley. They farmed, raised livestock, did truck gardening and sold firewood.
He retired in 1991, and they moved into town. After retiring, he wrote two stories of his early childhood that became a book, "Covered Wagon and Other Adventures." It won first place in juvenile story at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1988.
He served on the District 60 School board for many years. He liked to draw, hunt, fish, play cards, dominoes and music, especially playing the accordion for dances.
Survivors include one son, Bill of Green Valley, Ariz.; three daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Theodore) Sazama and Jeannette (Mrs. William) Harvey, both of St. Paul, and Jeanne (Mrs. Donald) Bruntz of Hastings; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
His wife died on Nov. 8, 1987. He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter, Glen, Ralph and Donald; and four sisters, Della Grammer, Emma Starkey, Josephine Stone and Bessie Ziegler.
Myrtle Evans
MERRIAM, Kan. -- Myrtle (Stroops) Evans, 95, formerly of Hastings, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at St. Luke's Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, Kan.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings. The Revs. James Miller and Lowell Thuma will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery at Hastings.
Visitation with the family receiving friends will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Further visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Evans was born on Nov. 4, 1903, at Mount Zion, Ill., to Cornelius and Ara (Himmel) Stroops. At the age of 13, she moved with her parents to a farm near Inland. She attended school in Clay County.
She married
Peter Evans Jr. on Feb. 20, 1924. They farmed until 1965, when they retired and moved to Hastings. He died on Dec. 16, 1978. She moved to Mission, Kan., five years ago to live with her daughter, Imogene.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings for more than 60 years. She belonged to afternoon Circle One of the United Methodist Women and afternoon prayer group at the church.
Survivors include one daughter, Imogene Austin of Mission, Kan.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Ilene Jewel Rockford, Isabelle Bromer and Roberta Gartner.
Jack Koch
AUSTIN, Texas -- Jack J. Koch, 59, formerly of Grand Island, died Oct. 23, 1998, at Austin, Texas.
Services are pending at Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island.
'Jack' Adams
Betty Adams
Jackie "Jack" Adams, 67, and Betty Jean Adams, 65, of 818 N. Custer died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, of injuries suffered in a traffic accident near Wood River.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Richard Bacon will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the family's choice.
Mr. Adams was born on April 5, 1930, at Ainsworth to John P. and Barbara (Edwards) Adams. As a boy, he moved with his family to Cody. He graduated from Cody High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Mrs. Adams was born on Oct. 24, 1932, at Merriman to Roy and Winnie (Dahlgren) Malone. She grew up in Merriman and graduated from high school there.
They were married
on May 23, 1954, at Merriman.
Mr. Adams graduated from Kearney State College and taught at Ansley High School for seven years. They then moved to Grand Island, where he taught at Northwest High School. He was a coach for track and basketball and umpired Little League and American Legion baseball.
Mrs. Adams was a teacher's aide for the Grand Island school system and also worked for Dr. Bosley for several years. She retired from the school system last May.
They served as presidents of the Newell Elementary School PTA for several years.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Platt-Duetsche and enjoyed fishing, hunting and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
She played the organ and piano for the First Christian Church's early service. She was a member of a card club, a den mother and loved cooking.
Survivors include three sons, Kevin of Omaha, Michael of Grand Island and David of Lincoln; and one grandson.
Mr. Adams is also survived by one brother, Donald Adams of Cody; and his mother, of Grand Island.
Mrs. Adams is also survived by three sisters, Edna Pruden of Alliance, Velma Moody of Aurora, Colo., and Barbara Ohle of LaVista.
He was preceded in death by his father.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard.
