Josephine Bremer
ST. EDWARD -- Josephine E. Bremer, 83, of St. Edward died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. The Rev. Brian Bergum and intern Annette Minderman will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Albion.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mrs. Bremer was born on March 4, 1914, on a farm east of Clarks to George P. and Ida T. (Holtz) Luft. She attended rural Merrick County schools.
She married
Elmer W. Bremer on Nov. 15, 1936, at Central City. They lived in Clarks. They moved to Frohna, Mo., in 1938, and moved to the St. Edward area in 1948. They farmed in southern Boone County for 49 years. She was a homemaker. Mr. Bremer died in 1970.
Survivors include a son, Darwin Bremer of rural St. Edward; two daughters, Betty (Mrs. Richard) Brengelman of Leawood, Kan., and Donna (Mrs. John) Johnson of Albion; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond Luft of Grand Island, William Luft and Vernon Luft, both of Fullerton; and a sister, Vera Hellbush of Fullerton.
In addition to her husband, he was preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnn Hendrickson; three grandsons; two brothers, Lawrence and Phillip Luft; and a sister, Christina Wait.
L. Clark Caley
CLARKS -- L. Clark Caley, 64, of Clarks died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at St. Francis Skilled Care in Grand Island.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Clarks. The Rev. LaQuita McKibbin will officiate. Burial will be in the Clarks Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Caley was born on Jan. 26, 1933, in Springfield to Clifford R. and Eva E. (Clark) Caley. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1950 and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1954 with a bachelor's degree in business. He participated in the ROTC program at UNL.
He married
Peggy Wells in August 1955. They lived in Lincoln for two years, where he worked for the National Bank of Commerce as a loan officer. They then moved to Greeley, Colo., where he worked for Wells Motor Co. He then was drafted by the U.S. Army and served at Fort Benning, Ga., as a second lieutenant.
After the service, he returned to the banking business in Alamosa, Colo. After his father's death in 1961, he moved to Clarks to serve as board chairman of the Bank of Clarks and Farmers State Bank of Silver Creek.
He married
Sharon I. Behlen Hull in March 1988.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Masonic Solar Lodge 134, Order of the Eastern Star and Hastings Scottish Rite. He served on the Clarks Village Board, Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital board and Valley View Country Club board. He also was a member of the Nebraska Independent Bankers Association for 24 years, serving as president from 1978 to 1980. He later received the Presidential Award and had served on the board of directors since Jan. 1.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Chris of Grand Island; one daughter, Cathy (Mrs. Craig) Swedenburg of Clarks; five grandchildren; one step grandson; two sisters, Gayle Anderstrom of Naples, Fla., and Patricia (Mrs. Lynn) James of Grand Junction, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard 'Dick' Church
LEXINGTON -- Richard L. "Dick" Church, 37, of Lexington died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, in an accident near Lexington.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington with the Rev. Don Burhman officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Pierce Chapel cemetery in Clarks.
A wake will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to his children.
Mr. Church was born on June 16, 1960, in Osceola to Harold and June (Scott) Church. He graduated from Clarks High School in 1978 and later attended Central Community College in Grand Island for two years.
He married
Marge Ziemba on June 16, 1977, in Yankton, S.D. The couple moved to Lexington from Clarks in 1991. At the time of his death, he worked at Farmland Co-op as an agronomist.
He attended St. Ann's Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Lexington Athletic Booster Club and was president of the Lexington Wrestling Federation. He was a 15-year member of the Nebraska Wrestling Federation.
He enjoyed helping with his son's wrestling team and hunting.
Survivors include his wife; his son, Shawn, and his daughter, April, both of Lexington; his parents, of Clarks; a brother, Jeff of Stromsburg; and two sisters, Tammy Church of Clarks and Melody Church of Osceola.
Robert L. Cox
HASTINGS -- Robert L. Cox, 93, of Villa Grace, Good Samaritan Village in Hastings, formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at Villa Grace.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Loup City.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Cox was born on May 11, 1904, at Milwaukee to William L. and Anna M. (Allen) Cox. He grew up and attended school in the Milwaukee area, graduating from high school there. He settled in Chicago and worked at Kraft-Pheonex Cheese Co. for several years. He then worked for Western Electric Manufacturing in the traffic division.
He married
Amanda J. Steen on Oct. 26, 1929, at Riverside, Ill. They lived in Chicago until 1948, when they moved to Grand Island. He worked at the Yancey Hotel as a desk clerk and sold advertising for The Grand Island Independent. He later worked for Bonsall Pool Co. as a bookkeeper.
They moved to Beverly Hills, Calif., in 1959. He served as office manager for the Jonathan Club in Los Angeles, retiring in 1969. They moved to Chula Vista, Calif., and lived there for nine years before returning to Grand Island in 1978. Mrs. Cox died in July 1983. Mr. Cox moved to Villa Grace in December 1992.
He was a member of the Christian Science Church in Grand Island.
Survivors include James Olson of Grand Island, who took care of him.
Richard Guzinski
LOUP CITY -- Richard P. Guzinski, 50, of Loup City died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reggie Urban will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Loup City.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City and from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service, Wednesday at the church. The casket will be closed during visitation at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the American Brain Tumor Association.
Mr. Guzinski was born on Nov. 24, 1947, at Loup City to Alonzo and Mary (Kuffel) Guzinski. He attended St. Josaphat's Parochial School and Loup City Public Schools. He graduated from Loup City High School in 1966.
He attended Peru State College, where he played varsity football and baseball. He graduated from Kearney State College in January 1971.
He married
Cynthia K. Tomlins on Dec. 30, 1967, at Loup City. He worked for Redman Mobile Homes of Grand Island as the company's materials manager in Meridian, Miss., and Mebane, N.C.
He and his family later moved to Abilene, Texas, where he worked for U.S. Brass for 20 years. At the time of his death, he was vice president of materials for Wolverine Brass in Conway, S.C. The family moved back to Loup City in October 1997 due to failing health.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Garden City, S.C., and St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. He was a former member of Shady Oaks Golf Club of Clyde, Texas. He coached Little League and senior league baseball in Abilene. He was an avid golfer and runner, having run in numerous marathons
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Jill Guzinski of Loup City; one son, Pat Guzinski of St. Louis; his parents, of Loup City; one brother, Bob Guzinski of Tekamah; and two sisters, Carol (Mrs. Sam) Kuszak and Marge (Mrs. Corwin) Bauhard, both of Loup City.
Merle Henry
Merle V. Henry, 87, of Park Place Nursing Center in Grand Island died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at the center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings. The Rev. Bill Liddell will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Parkview cemetery at Hastings.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
A memorial will be established.
Mr. Henry was born on Aug. 21, 1910, Wormer, Kan., to Perry and Lucy (Ward) Henry.
He married
Helen Boltz on June 15, 1932. Mrs. Henry died on July 6, 1988. He worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads as a mechanic.
Survivors include one daughter, Evelyn (Mrs. Elmer) Layher of Grand Island; two sons, Robert M. Henry of North Platte and Kenneth E. Henry of Cheyenne, Wyo.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Alice Peter; and two sisters.
