Rena Hoffman
LINCOLN -- Rena Hoffman, 77, of Lincoln died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Community Church in Lincoln. The Rev. Carl L. Godwin will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
Further visitation will be one hour before services Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Hoffman was born in North Loup. He graduated from North Loup High School. He was a 23-year employee of the Lincoln Telephone Co.
She was a member of Calvary Community Church, Grandpeoples and the Telephone Pioneers Association.
Survivors include three sons, Robert, Ron and David, all of Lincoln; one daughter, Janet (Mrs. Robert) Clegg of Lincoln; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Raymond Maxson of Redondo Beach, Calif., and twin Roy Maxson of North Loup; and one sister, Roberta Molzer of Crete.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence W.; and two brothers, Lester and Herman.
Agnes Howard
WAHOO -- Agnes Howard, 83, of Wahoo, formerly of Taylor, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at the Saunders County Care Center in Wahoo.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent. The Rev. Marty Robbins will officiate. Burial will be in the Madison Square cemetery west of Taylor.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Glen Jerome
HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Glen William Jerome, 87, of Hillsboro, Ore., formerly of Chapman, died Nov. 12, 1998, in a Portland nursing home.
Mr. Jerome was cremated.
Memorial services were on Nov. 21 at Forest Grove Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Bronleewe-Bass Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Billy Graham Crusade.
Mr. Jerome was born on Dec. 3, 1910, in Chapman to William Glen and Lila May (Zetler) Jerome. He spent his early years in Chapman.
He married
Katherine Hunter on June 23, 1949, in Livingston, Mont. They lived in Golden, Colo., where he was a general contractor from the early 1950s until his retirement in 1977.
They moved to Hillsboro in 1979.
Mr. Jerome had attended the Hillsboro Friends Church and the Forest Grove Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He enjoyed fishing and his animals, which included fish, dogs, a parrot, a magpie and a raccoon.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Yvonne Tatham of Edgewater, Colo., Juanita Richner of Hanna, Wyo., and Barbara Jones of Golden, Colo.; three sons, Kenneth Jerome of Golden, Colo., Glen Jerome Jr. of Lakewood, Colo., and C. Lee Jerome of Rock Springs, Wyo.; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Alma Goins of Grand Island, Opal Crowder of Fort Worth, Texas, and Dolores Curry of Graham, Texas.
Joseph Maschi
PITTSBURGH -- Joseph Maschi, 80, of Pittsburgh died Nov. 22, 1998, in Pittsburgh.
Services were on Nov. 25 at Herschburger and Stover Funeral Home in Pittsburgh. Burial was in Mount Lebanon cemetery in Pittsburgh.
Mr. Maschi was born on Nov. 10, 1918, at Washington, D.C., to Cesare and Victoria (Cordani) Maschi.
He married
Mary Covach on April 25, 1953, in Washington, D.C.
He spent 26 years with the Department of Justice, working in the secret files department and winning many national awards for his work.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Bobbi Carlson of Omaha and Jo Ann Hauck of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, including Dax Carlson of Grand Island; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and Michael; and two sisters, Rosie Bowers and Jenny Hurniack.
Filbert Bartak
Filbert F. Bartak, 75, of Grand Island died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Curtis Holzworth will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Bartak was born on Dec. 25, 1922, at Clarkson to Frank and Mary (Janda) Bartak. He grew up and was educated at Clarkson and the Madison public schools.
He married
Celestine A. Kloke on May 16, 1943, at San Diego. The couple lived in Omaha, where he was a salesman for Electrolux. They moved in 1969 to Grand Island, where he had the distributorship for Rainbow Vacuum. He retired in 1984.
He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church. He was a past member of Abundant Life Christian Center, Eagles Club and United Veterans Club, all of Grand Island. He enjoyed being outdoors, nature and animals.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Barbara Jean (Mrs. Ed) Harrison of Stratton; three sons, Stephen R. Bartak of Omaha, Randy Bartak of Lincoln and Rick Bartak of Council Bluffs, Iowa; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, William Bartak of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Frieda Haumont
BROKEN BOW -- Frieda Barbara Haumont, 86, of Broken Bow died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Burial will be in the French Table cemetery near Broken Bow.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Custer County Hospice.
Mrs. Haumont was born on Feb. 4, 1912, in a sod house 12 miles west of Broken Bow to Charles and Rose (Eiseman) Koch. She grew up on the farm.
She attended school through the eighth grade in a sod schoolhouse near their home. She graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1930. After her schooling, she taught in a rural school for four years. She attended a 12-week summer course in 1933 at Kearney State Teachers College.
She married
Thomas E. Haumont on May 24, 1934, at Broken Bow. They lived on his grandparents' farm. They retired from the farm in 1966 and moved to Broken Bow. They spent the next 12 summers in Cooke City, Mont., as owners and operators of Big Bear mountain log cabin resort near Yellowstone National Park. They sold the resort in 1978. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 24, 1984, at their daughter's home in Colorado with all of their children and grandchildren. Mr. Haumont died on May 27, 1992.
Mrs. Haumont enjoyed gardening, flowers and her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Dutton of Loveland, Colo.; one son, Paul of Vernal, Utah; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son and one brother.
'Buddy' Hauschild
RAVENNA -- Louis "Buddy" Hauschild, 73, of Ravenna died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Steven Schlund will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hauschild was born on March 25, 1925, in Buffalo County to Albert and Marie (Ahrens) Hauschild. He graduated from Ravenna High School and served in the U.S. Army in Hawaii.
He married
Velma Heiden on Oct. 25, 1958, at Kearney. The couple lived on a farm east of Ravenna. Mrs. Hauschild died on Feb. 25, 1976.
Mr. Hauschild was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include one son, David Hauschild of Grand Island; two daughters, Diane Langen of Cedar Rapids and Julie Muller of Omaha; seven grandchildren; one brother, Otto Hauschild of Grand Island; and one sister, Daisy Bays of Adams, Wis.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
