Henry B. Manning
SHELTON -- Henry B. Manning, 92, of Shelton, died Sunday, Dec. 20 , 1998, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Wood River.
Services are pending with the Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River and Shelton.
Virginia Sich
ORD -- Virginia A. "Ginger" Sich, 63, of Ord, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ord United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Bohemian Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. There will be no viewing held at the church prior to the services.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the Valley County Hospital.
Raymond Vannoy
ST. EDWARD -- Raymond B. Vannoy, 83, of St. Edward, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward with the Rev. Donald Steiner officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 226.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Mike Garza
Mike J. Garza, 19, of 2504 W. State died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
James Clarke
CENTRAL CITY -- James F. Clarke, 90, of Central City died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City. The Rev. Nelson Newman will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. wake service, Wednesday at the church.
Solt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Clarke Recreation Fund in care of the Merrick Foundation.
Charles Harden
TAYLOR -- Lyle Charles Harden, 69, of Taylor died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Parkinson's research or the Taylor Methodist Church.
Robbie Scheef
SPALDING -- Robbie H. Scheef, 77, of Spalding died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Rev. Frank Hoelck will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with rosaries at 4:30 and 8 p.m., Wednesday at Dolce Scheef Mortuary.
Mr. Scheef was born on March 19, 1920, at Millard to John and Catharine (Thomsen) Scheef. He attended rural grade school. He worked as a farm laborer during the 1930s.
Mr. Scheef worked for Crown Products in Ralston from 1941 until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in January 1942. His unit was one of the first Army units to engage the Japanese in the Pacific campaign. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action and returned home in January 1945.
He married
Magdeline Witkowski on March 7, 1945, in Omaha. They farmed in the Douglas County area.
The couple moved to a farm south of Spalding in the spring of 1952. He farmed and also worked for Moormans, Purina and Spalding Implement. They moved into Spalding in 1963, and he continued to farm and ranch with his sons.
He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus, St. Michael's Men's Club and Spalding Fire Department. He was a 4-H leader and an active member of the Spalding Saddle Club.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jim of Gretna and John and Jerry, both of Spalding; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and three brothers, Raymond of St. Edward, Walter of Gretna and Lester of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Myrtle Henningsen; and one brother, Glen.
Dennis Schlund
BOELUS -- Dennis Schlund, 57, of Boelus died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Alan Davis will officiate. Private family burial will be held.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Schlund was cremated.
Mr. Schlund was born on Nov. 24, 1940, on the family farm in rural Cairo to Harry and Anita (Canedy) Schlund. He attended Cairo School before moving to California in 1957. He graduated from Inglewood High School in 1958.
He married
Kay Caswell on April 3, 1957, at Smith Center, Kan. He worked as circulation manager for Rogers and McDonald Publishing Co. until 1967. He then farmed and raised hogs in the Cairo area until 1982. He moved to Boelus in 1984 and was self-employed.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include two daughters, Chris (Mrs. Mark) Eilenstine of Ravenna and Brigitte (Mrs. Todd) Loescher of Newton, Kan.; a son, Paul of Pawnee City; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his ex-wife, Kay of Boelus.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Marjorie Seamann
CEDAR RAPIDS -- Marjorie Seamann, 79, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Jim Moores will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Ellen Sheldon
STROMSBURG -- Ellen P. Sheldon, 97, of Stromsburg died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Scott Carlson will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Laurel Hill cemetery in Neligh.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Anderson-Dodds-Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Mrs. Sheldon was born on Aug. 4, 1900, in Piney Creek, N.C., to George and Ada Halsey. The family moved to northeast Nebraska in 1910.
She married
Kenneth Sheldon in 1927. They farmed in Pierce and Antelope counties. Mr. Sheldon died in 1962. Mrs. Sheldon lived in Brunswick until 1986, when she moved to Stromsburg to live with her daughter.
In 1996, Mrs. Sheldon suffered an injury, which made it necessary for her to move to her granddaughter's home in Stromsburg.
She was a member of the Plainview Friends Church until the 1950s, when they moved their membership to the Brunswick Community Church.
Survivors include one sister, Helen Hawkins of Tilden; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jacobson; five sisters and four brothers.
