George Miles
George L. Miles, 73, of the Nebraska Veterans Home died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Kleine Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery in Beaver City.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Marvin Christensen
BROKEN BOW -- Marvin Christensen, 67, of Broken Bow died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow with the Revs. Perry O'Dell and James Sampson officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Mr. Christensen was born Nov. 19, 1930, at Berwyn to Chris and Elsie Opal (Wright) Christensen. He attended school and graduated from Berwyn High School in 1948. He later took classes at Kearney State College and Norfolk College.
He married
Patricia Stucker on July 8, 1951. The couple spent their entire married
life in Broken Bow.
Mr. Christensen spent 10 years in the National Guard from 1951 to 1961. He was master sergeant for seven years, and he was soldier of the year.
He went to work for Custer Public Power District in March 1952. He held the position of head field engineer when he retired in January 1994. He was involved in the On the Job Training and Safety Committee of Nebraska for four years, and he served as chairman for one year.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Broken Bow. He enjoyed baseball, softball, bowling, golf and wood working projects.
Survivors include his wife, Patty of Broken Bow; three daughters, Debra (Mrs. Jim) Chapin of Merna, Connie (Mrs. Dave) Laws of Gering, and Cindy (Mrs. Rex) Roberts of Grand Island; one son, Tom Christensen of Van Meter, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one twin brother, Mick Christensen of Berwyn; and two sisters, Margaret Beversdorf of Chicago, and Marceil (Mrs. Jim) Millsap of Berwyn.
Bonnie Johnson
AURORA -- Hazel "Bonnie" (Jones) Johnson, 82, of Aurora died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Aurora cemetery with the Rev. Peggy Michael-Rush officiating.
There will be no visitation. The Higby Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Johnson was born on Aug. 21, 1915, in Hall County to E.E. and JeNettie (Boroff) Eastman. She grew up and graduated from Giltner High School. Following graduation, she worked for Sandin's and the Hamilton County Telephone Co.
She was married
to Howard Jones on June 7, 1936, at Aurora. They lived in Aurora until 1939, when they moved to California. They returned to Aurora in 1945, and operated Jones Plumbing and Heating. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1962.
She began working at the Farmer's State Bank, where she was employed until her retirement.
She married
Fred Johnson on April 5, 1970, at Aurora. They operated the Laundromat.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, the Hamilton County VFW Post #4993 Auxiliary, the Grand Island Eagles and the Elks DOEs.
Survivors include her husband, Fred; one daughter, Jan Jones of Aurora; one sister, Pauline Hartman of Boise, Idaho; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her first husband; one son, Rodney; two brothers and three sisters.
Joyce Purchal
CENTRAL CITY -- Joyce "Jo" Marilyn Purchal, 59, of Central City died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at Community Care Center in Central City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City with the Rev. Nelson Newman officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service at the church.
Mrs. Purchal was born on Oct. 1, 1938, at Humphrey to Rodney and Lillian (Jasper) Ainsworth. She lived in Humphrey with her family and attended Humphrey Public School until the second grade.
Then they move to Madison in 1947, where she attended St. Leonard Catholic School and graduated from Madison High School in 1957. She moved to Platte Center in 1960.
She married
John F. "Jack" Purchal on Oct. 12, 1960, in Platte Center. They lived in Columbus until 1963. Then they lived in Aurora until 1979, and they moved to Central City in August 1979.
Mrs. Purchal was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City, a past member of the Altar Society and a past member of the Eagle's.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Carmel (Mrs. James) Tuma and Laura (Mrs. William) DuVall both of Central City; two sons, John Purchal of Kearney and Robert Purchal of Central City; her mother, Lillian Ainsworth of Columbus; five brothers, Larry Ainsworth, Jack Ainsworth and Dean Ainsworth, all of Columbus, Dale Ainsworth of David City and Tim Ainsworth of Seward; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Purchal, her father and one brother, Gerald Ainsworth.
Gerald Seier
ALBION -- Gerald "Jerry" William Seier, 47, of Albion died Friday, July 3, 1998, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion with the Revs. Will Spenner, Brian Bergum and Larry Spomer officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill cemetery in Albion.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion. After 7 p.m. visitation will be at the church with an 8 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Jerry Seier Memorial Fund.
Mr. Seier was born on June 25, 1951, at Norfolk to Bernard and Leona (Temme) Seier. He was baptized at St. John's Catholic Church in Petersburg and confirmed at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion.
He received his education at St. Michael's School and graduated from Albion High School in 1969. He continued his education at Southeast Community College in Milford.
He worked in Kearney and Lincoln, and then he returned to Albion. In partnership with Al Westerman, he owned and operated J and A Appliance for four years. He also farmed with his father.
He married
Marcia Ann Landen on Dec. 28, 1974, at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion.
He farmed, raised livestock and took an active part in their children's school events. He was a member of St. Michael's Church and had served on the Parish Council. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, served as an officer of the Albion Booster Club, and coached girls softball.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Jerry Seier of Albion; and two daughters, Lynne Seier and Ann Seier, both of Albion.
Helen Schutz
COLUMBUS -- Helen Margaret Schutz, 91, of Columbus died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at the Columbus Community Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the McKown Funeral Home in Columbus.
Mrs. Schutz was born on April 15, 1906, at Banes, Oriente Province, Cuba to Raymond and Minnie (Cook) Holding.
She lived in many areas with her parents, including Grand Island , Central City and Columbus.
She married
Wesley Schutz on July 27, 1926, in Boston.
Survivors include one son, John Schutz of San Pedro, Calif.; one daughter, Mary Helen Shortridge of Bethesda, Md.; one sister, Ruth O'Neill of Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers and one granddaughter.
