Kerry Philmalee
ALBION -- Kerry Philmalee, 46, of Alexandria, Va., formerly of Albion, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Loretto Methodist Church with the Rev. Eric Biehl officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill cemetery in Albion.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Philmalee was born Nov. 10, 1951, at Columbus to Ronald and Kathryn (Vollbrecht) Philmalee. He attended Boone County District #72 School and graduated from Albion High School in 1970.
Following graduation, he moved to the Washington D.C. area where he attended college and began working for the FBI.
He returned to Albion where he worked for a short time for the Albion Police Department before returning to Virginia where he completed college and worked as a statistician for the FBI until the late 1980s.
Following his work with the FBI, Philmalee worked three years for People's Drug in Alexandria, Va. The past five years he worked as a computer engineer for Perot's Systems. During these years, he had continued his education by working toward a master's degree.
He is survived by his mother, Kathryn Philmalee of Albion; four sisters, Teresa (Mrs. Johnny) Morrison, Ronelle Christo, Joleen (Mrs. Jim) Frey, and Jodie (Mrs. Kevin) Borer, all of Albion; two brothers, Tim Philmalee of Council Bluffs Iowa, and Rick Philmalee of Shelton; and grandmothers, Lillian Philmalee and Olive Vollbrecht, both of Albion.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ron; and grandfathers, Clarence Vollbrecht and Cecil Philmalee.
Lillian Bonifas
Lillian Koos Bonifas, 92, of Tiffany Square Care Center died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at Tiffany Square.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings with a rosary at 9:45 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Joseph P. Finn will officiate. Burial will be in Assumption cemetery in Roseland.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Lillian Bonifas Memorial Fund.
Mrs. Bonifas was born on Nov. 18, 1905, in Adams County to Henry and Margaret (Hoffman) Koos.
She married
Lawrence Bonifas on April 14, 1926, at Assumption Catholic Church. They moved from Juniata to Hastings in 1955. Mr. Bonifas died in 1964.
Mrs. Bonifas was a cook at St. Cecilia's Catholic School for 15 years. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters. She was a lifetime Adams County resident.
Survivors include a daughter, Sister Alverda Bonifas, O.P., of Chicago; three sons, Richard Bonifas of Aurora, Ill., Harold Bonifas of Columbia, S.C., and Lawrence L. "Larry" Bonifas of Juniata; 14 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Doug Swalberg
Doug Swalberg, 39, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Vistation will be from 2 to 5 p.m., with a rosary recited at 5 p.m., Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Swalberg was born on March 10, 1959, at Ogden, Utah, to Richard and June (Hawkins) Swalberg. He grew up in Utah and moved to North Platte at a young age. He attended school in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1977.
He married
Tracy Sutton on Nov. 17, 1989, at North Platte. The couple lived there for two years before moving to Kearney. The couple lived in Kearney before moving to Grand Island five years ago. While in Grand Island, he worked as a drywall finisher for T&R; Drywall.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Quinn Swalberg and Todd Swalberg, both of Grand Island; his mother, of North Platte; one brother, Charles Swalberg of North Platte; and two sisters, Carrie Clang and Janice Kingston, both of North Platte.
He was preceded in death by his father and two infant brothers.
Brenda Arnett
CRETE -- Brenda Arnett, 36, of Crete died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Metcalf Funeral Home in Lincoln with the Rev. Bill Draper-Finlaw officiating. Burial will be in the Phillips cemetery in Phillips.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Arnett was a buyer for Nebraska Book Co. She was a member of the National Wildlife Rescue League.
Survivors include her husband, Norman of Crete; one daughter, Laurie of Crete; one son, William of Crete; one stepson, Norman Arnett Jr. of Wahoo; two stepdaughters, Jennifer (Mrs. William) Dick of Lincoln and Michele Arnett of Omaha; one grandson; her father, Robert Bates of Lincoln; two sisters, Gail (Mrs. Vince) Buskirk of Las Vegas and Tiara Bates of Lincoln; her grandmother, Ruby Bates of Tecumseh; and her mother-in-law, Bernice Arnett of Phillips.
Bessie Allington
FULLERTON -- Bessie L. Allington, 95, of Fullerton died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at the Central Nebraska Rehab Care Center in Fullerton.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Palmer's Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Allington was born on April 18, 1903, at Jewell County, Kan., to William H. and Viola (Smith) Francis. She attended grade school in Jewell County and graduated from North Branch Academy. She taught school for several years in Kansas.
She married
Virgil Glenn Allington on Aug. 12, 1925, at Burr Oak, Kan. They moved to Nebraska in 1927 and farmed south of Fullerton until retiring and moving into Fullerton in 1986.
She was a member of the Methodist Church, the HOA Club and Home Circle. She also was a 4-H leader for several years. She loved to crochet and enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include two sons, Bill of Crofton and Richard "Duke" of Fullerton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dale Francis of Arlington, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one grandson.
Orpha Brockman
TAYLOR -- Orpha Brockman, 83, of Taylor died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at the Sargent Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church in Taylor. The Rev. Donald Dennison will officiate. Burial will be in the Kent Cemetery, east of Taylor.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent.
Memorials are suggested to the Loup County Rescue Unit.
Mrs. Brockman was born on April 17, 1915, at Gross to Frank and Alphea (Post) Wiley. She attended Bala and Valley View country schools. She graduated from Burwell High School.
She married
Vernon Brockman on Feb. 14, 1934, in Ord. They lived in the Loup County area and moved into Taylor in 1973. She worked for the post office for 35 years, beginning in 1950. Mr. Brockman died in 1993.
Mrs. Brockman was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Loup County Historical Society and Kent Corner Club.
Survivors include three sons, Douglas of Grand Island, Errol of Isabella, Calif., and John of Kearney; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Robert Wiley of Moses Lake, Wash.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother.
