Leah Heider
MALCOLM -- Leah Grace Heider, 2-day-old infant daughter of Stanley and Laura Heider of Malcolm, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at St. Elizabeth Children's Hospital in Lincoln.
Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Christ's Place Church in Lincoln.
Visitation will be one hour before the church service.
Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Leah was born on July 12, 1998, in Lincoln to Stanley and Laura (Logan) Heider.
Survivors include her parents; three brothers, Samuel, Joseph and Philip; a sister, Bethany; and grandparents, Herbert and Joanne Heider of Grand Island and Gene and Donna Brown of Norfolk.
Walter Kennedy
RED CLOUD -- Walter H. Kennedy, 86, of Red Cloud died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at the Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Simonson-Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud. The Rev. Alvin E. Trucano will officiate. Burial will be in the Red Cloud Cemetery.
Mr. Kennedy was born on Oct. 8, 1911, at Inavale to Mike and Maude (Deisley) Kennedy. He grew up in the Inavale community and attended Inavale School.
He married
Margaret Idell Lewallen on Oct. 17, 1935, at Smith Center, Kan. They moved to Jerome, Idaho, in 1949. Mrs. Kennedy died on April 9, 1951.
He returned to Red Cloud to live in 1952. He worked for Howard Watson Construction for a time and then for the Nebraska Natural Gas Co. for more than 23 years, until his retirement in 1976.
He married
Bulah Moger Gamble on Jan. 20, 1961, at Guide Rock. They continued to live at Red Cloud. After his retirement, he was custodian and groundskeeper for the Webster County Museum for several years. He moved to the Heritage Care Center in June 1977.
Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn "Mickie" Burmann of Grand Island, Naomi Almany of Lindale, Texas, and Patsy Herrick of Franklin; a stepdaughter, Viola Tweeddale of Harley, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both wives; a stepdaughter, Mildred Gamble; an infant grandson; two sisters; and a brother.
Harold Carmann
LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. -- Harold L. Carmann, 76, of Los Alamitos, Calif., died July 6, 1998, at Los Alamitos.
Services were on Monday at the Church of Our Fathers in Los Alamitos. The Rev. Paul Uhlar officiated. Burial was in Forest Lawn at Cypress, Calif.
Forest Lawn Mortuary of Cypress was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Carmann was born on Feb. 16, 1922, at Grand Island to Otto and Freida Carmann. He grew up in Grand Island, attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1940.
After graduation, he moved to the Santa Monica, Calif., area, where he worked for McDonald Douglas. He retired in 1987 after 45 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Tracy (Mrs. Marshall) Cherry of Washington; one granddaughter; a brother, Ralph Carmann of San Mateo, Calif.; and two sisters, Norma Larson and Marjorie Benzel of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Jerald Kiser
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jerald Allen Kiser, 52, of Kansas City, Mo., died of a heart attack Wednesday, July 15, 1998, in Kansas City.
Mr. Kiser will be cremated. Services will be in Tennessee.
Mr. Kiser was the son of Marvin and Aunilee Kiser and was born near Archer. He attended Central City High School.
Survivors include his mother, Aunilee Kiser of Central City; two sons; one daughter; three sisters, Jackie (Mrs. Ralph) Condon and Marlene (Mrs. D.W.) Splitt of Hastings and Lila (Mrs. Brad) Bernth; and one brother, Dick Kiser of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Ruby Chitty
HASTINGS -- Ruby A. Chitty, 77, of Hastings died Saturday, May 23, 1998, at Kenesaw Haven Home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Brand-Wilson Chapel with the Rev. David Speicher officiating. Burial will be in the Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Mrs. Chitty was born on April 20, 1921, to Albert and Grace (Landreth) Dye at Grand City, Mo.
She married
Joseph A. Chitty on August 7, 1938. He died Oct. 21, 1979.
She attended the Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Alberts of Omaha and Bev Tjade of Lexington; three sons, William Chitty of Henderson, N.C., Randy Chitty of Grand Island and Rondon Chitty of Hastings; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Aleda Hoefener
SPALDING -- Aleda M. Hoefener, 88, of Spalding died Monday, May 25, 1998, at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island.
A graveside burial service will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bartlett cemetery in Bartlett with the Rev. Cynthia Altstadt officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dolce-Scheef Mortuary in Spalding.
Edward Koci
HASTINGS -- Edward Koci, 51, of Hastings died Monday, May 25, 1998, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with the Rev. John J. McCabe officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Chapel with the Rev. John J. McCabe officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the Edward J. Koci memorial fund.
Mr. Koci was born July 8, 1946, to Albert J. and Phyllis M. (Wiedel) Koci. He graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in Columbus in 1964.
He was in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service from Feb. 25, 1966, to Oct. 31, 1969.
He married
Jean Philmalee on May 28, 1966, in North Bend. They moved to Hastings from Columbus in November of 1969.
He worked for Dravo/Hastings Industries Inc. until 1976. In 1976, he started Koci Engineering Inc. which he owned and operated until his death.
He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, third and fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and the Chamber of Commerce, all of Hastings. He was also a member of the Nebraskaland Treasure Hunters.
Mr. Koci is survived by his wife; three daughters, Kristina Koci of Geneva, Brenda Koci of Hastings and Selana Koci of Hastings; one son, Dustin Koc, of Virginia Beach, Va.; one grandson; two sisters, Judy Butler of Grants Pass, Ore., and Terra LaFountain of Ft. Worth, Texas; and one brother, Richard Koci of Hastings.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Nellie Nelson
BROKEN BOW -- Nellie Marie Nelson, 97, of Broken Bow died Saturday, May 23, 1998, in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Cliff Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary and Wednesday until service time at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Berwyn United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Nelsen was born August 16, 1900, to Abner H. and Catharina (Bally) Martin. She graduated from Fremont High School.
She married
Elmer E. Nelsen in 1920 at her parents' home in Fremont. She worked for Hammond Printing and the Fremont Tribune as a proofreader.
The couple moved to Custer County and lived on a farm near Berwyn. Mr. Nelson died in 1972.
She was a member of the United Methodist churches in both Berwyn and Broken Bow. She was treasurer of the Berwyn Church for 68 years. She was also a member of the Sunflower Extension Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Ethel (Mrs. Dale) Baker of Broken Bow and Marjorie Bartels of Lincoln; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Helen; two brothers and one sister.
