Henry Anderson
FULLERTON -- Henry Anderson, 102, of Fullerton died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Palmer's Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Eric Biehl will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Genoa.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Anderson was born on Feb. 22, 1895, in Genoa to Hans and Hanna (Christensen) Anderson. He grew up and was educated in the Genoa area. He farmed between Genoa and Fullerton until 1976, when he moved to Fullerton.
He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. He enjoyed reading and politics.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Andrew and Carl; and one sister, Emma Travers.
Kenneth Berggren
ST. PAUL -- Kenneth N. Berggren, 79, of St. Paul, died on Dec. 27, 1997, at Lakeview Nursing Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul with Rev. Rosalie Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Fairdale Sunrise cemetery north of St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Berggren was born on Dec. 24, 1918, in the Fairdale area of Howard County to Julius and Josephine (Jacobsen) Berggren. He received his education at District 56 and then District 43 schools through the 10th grade and then St. Paul High School, where he graduated in 1938.
He married
Vivian Wilson on Dec. 15, 1944, at St. Paul. He farmed and did construction work for Rossmiers and LaVern Jacobsen and then worked at Farwell Irrigation District as a patrol operator at Sherman Dam. He then worked for Farmer's Union in St. Paul until his retirement in 1988, but he continued to farm north of St. Paul.
He belonged to Farmer's Union, was a 4-H leader for many years and was a sexton for the Fairdale Sunrise cemetery for many years.
He was a member of United Methodist Church of St. Paul and was a 50-year member of Fairdale Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Russell of North Platte, Dennis of Central City, Dwayne and Ted, both of Grand Island; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Rudolph of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry, and three brothers, Lester, Arnold and Cecil.
Virginia Shafer
AURORA -- Virginia H. Shafer, 90, of Aurora died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Dr. Joe Scahill will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Shafer was born Nov. 27, 1907, to Joseph and Katherine (Laughlin) Gavin in Greenwood. As a young child, she moved with her family to Burwell. She later graduated from Burwell High School.
Following graduation, she lived and worked in Lincoln.
She married
John Earl Shafer on March 27, 1931, in Marysville, Kan. The couple moved to Marquette, where he practiced dentistry. In 1936, they moved to Aurora.
Dr. Shafer died on April 6, 1983. For the past year, she has lived in the Hamilton Manor.
She was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, The Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. She belonged to several bridge clubs.
Survivors include two sons, Larry of Lincoln and Jack of Tustin, Calif.; one sister, Vivian Holloway of Burwell; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister, Beth.
John Albright
OMAHA -- John W. Albright, 49, of Omaha, formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Lonnie Logan will officiate. Mr. Albright was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Joseph Bosler
OMAHA -- Joseph M. Bosler, 91, of Omaha died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at the Thomas Fitzgerald Veterans Home in Omaha.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Maplewood Methodist Church in Omaha. The Rev. Fred Richart will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bosler was born on Aug. 17, 1906, at Grand Island to Joseph and Ethel (Bowen) Bosler. He attended Seedling Mile District 1 School. He served in the Army Military Police Signal Corps from February 1943 to November 1945 during World War II.
He married
Margaret Iossi on March 17, 1937, at Columbus. He was Grand Island police chief and then worked as a probation and parole officer until his retirement in 1967. After retiring, Mr. and Mrs. Bosler moved to Johnson Lake and then back to Grand Island before moving to Omaha in 1986.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2053, the American Legion, the Maplewood Methodist Church and the Fraternal Order of Police. He founded the Junior Police Club in Grand Island in the 1950s. He also was an accomplished fisherman.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Joan (Mrs. Jim) Kincaid of Omaha, Sharon (Mrs. Gary) Jenkins of Delaware, Ohio, and Yvonne Leisinger of Grand Island; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth and Leland, two sisters, Rose Robinson and Violet Hoes; one brother, Frank Bosler; and one granddaughter.
John Gelvin
PLEASANT HILL, Mo. -- John B. Gelvin, 53, of Pleasant Hill, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at Cass Medical Center in Harrisonville, Mo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Concordia, Kan. The Rev. Joe Rostollan will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Concordia.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Chapel in Concordia.
Memorials are suggested to ChristianVision Eye Services of Haiti.
Mr. Gelvin was born on March 30, 1944, at Concordia to Dr. E. Raymond and Louise (Westcott) Gelvin. He attended Concordia schools and graduated from Concordia High School and the University of Kansas.
He married
Janette K. Lewis on Dec. 27, 1961, at Emporia, Kan. They lived in Grand Island for 20 years and later moved to Rocheport, Mo., where they lived for six years. They had lived at Pleasant Hill, Mo., for about a year. Mr. Gelvin owned a building construction business.
He was an elder of the Presbyterian Church in Grand Island, where he was active in youth work. He attended the Evangelical Free Church in Pleasant Hill.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Janelle (Mrs. David) Vignery of Harrisonville, Mo.; one son, Dr. John Gelvin II of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sue Brady.
Anne Hungerford
WEBSTER CITY, Iowa -- Anne Hungerford, 89, of Webster City, Iowa, formerly of Wood River, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at Hamilton Hospital in Webster City.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Wood River Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before service time at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Memorials are suggested to the Kendall Young Library People's Project in Webster City.
Mrs. Hungerford was born on Oct. 26, 1908, in Wood River to Lloyd M. and Mary E. (Behr) Howe. She was educated in Wood River schools and graduated from Wood River High School in 1926. She graduated from Kearney Normal School in 1928 and taught in Denman, Elm Creek and Crawford.
She married
Paul Hungerford on Feb. 27, 1937, in Douglas, Wyo. They lived in El Paso, Texas, from 1937 to 1947. They returned to Wood River in 1947 and owned and operated Hungerford Hardware for several years.
Mrs. Hungerford moved to Lebanon, N.H., after her husband's death in 1952. She taught in the Lebanon school system until retiring in 1974. She coached girls basketball at West Lebanon High School for several years.
She moved to Webster City in 1980 because of ill health and had lived at Crestview Apartments for nine years.
She was a member of Cement Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, of Wood River.
Survivors include two nephews, Bill Prescott of Webster City and Lloyd Prescott of Post Mills, Vt.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Prescott.
