John Albright
OMAHA -- John W. Albright, 49, of Omaha, formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at the V.A. Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D., of complications of a stroke suffered in August 1997.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Lonnie Logan will officiate.
Mr. Albright was cremated. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Albright was born Oct. 13, 1948, in Broken Bow to Ralph and Darlyne (Beckhoff) Albright. He moved to Grand Island at age 2. He attended school here and graduated from Grand Island Senior High.
He entered the U.S. Navy in the fall of 1966, and was active in the Vietnam War. He served for four years before his honorable discharge.
He returned to Grand Island and then attended Kearney State College for two years.
Mr. Albright owned and operated the Round Boy's.
He married
Kay Kiser in 1976 in Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island.
Mr. Albright sold real estate for Town & Country. He then owned and managed the Fourth Street Cafe. He was a dispatcher for G.I. Express before managing Wings Cafe at the Grand Island Airport.
He was also employed as a groom for trainer Larry Donlin.
Survivors include two daughters, Chrystal (Mrs. Doug) Jensen of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Allison Albright of Justice, Ill.; two brothers, Chuck of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Gordon of Florida; one sister, Lynn (Mrs. Dave) George of Clancy, Mont.; and one grandson.
Susie Nutter
COLUMBUS, TEXAS, -- Susie M. Nutter, 90, of Columbus, Texas, formerly of Gibbon, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997, at the Columbus Care Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. The Rev. Mark Cadenbach will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.
No visitation is planned.
Memorials are suggested to the Buffalo County Historical Society.
Mrs. Nutter was born Dec. 31, 1906, in Garwood, Texas, to Arthur and Minnie Lee (Richardson) Baker. She grew up in Columbus, Texas, where she graduated from high school.
She married
William F. Nutter on March 21, 1929, in Hollinger. The couple farmed near Gibbon until 1955.
They then managed and owned motels in Texas, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas. Mrs. Nutter was also a licensed practical nurse while in Texas.
She lived in Gibbon during her retirement until moving back to Columbus, Texas, to reside at the care center there.
Mrs. Nutter was a member of Tuscan Chapter No. 35 O.E.S. of Kearney; Daughters of the American Revolution John Everett Chapter of Columbus, Texas; and the Buffalo County Historical Society of Kearney.
Survivors include two sons, Gene of Hayesville, N.C., and Doug of Kearney; one brother, Reginald Taylor of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; one son, William R. in 1996; and a grandson, David in 1964.
Herluf Bollesen
Herluf Bollesen, 93, of Grand Island died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Douglas Stensby will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Kronborg cemetery east of Marquette.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Bollesen was born on Nov. 7, 1904, at Tyler, Minn., to Mads and Karen (Utof) Bollesen. He was educated at Tyler, Minn. He attended the University of Minnesota and Grandview College in Des Moines, Iowa.
He married
Anna Nissen on Dec. 28, 1932, in Kronborg. The couple farmed in the area for seven years. Mr. Bollesen then started working as an electrician. During World War II, he worked at the Hastings and Grand Island ordnance plants. He worked for the Rural Electrification Administration in Grand Island and then owned and operated Bollesen Electric Service until retiring in 1984. Mrs. Bollesen died on March 26, 1967.
Mr. Bollesen married
Ella Heins on May 23, 1970, in Grand Island.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir for 40 years. He also was a member of St. John's Church in Kronborg and the Lutheran Layman's League.
His hobbies included woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Ella; one son, Vernon Bollesen of Milpitas, Calif.; one daughter, Eleanor Hatchell of Minneapolis; one stepdaughter, Jeanette Powers of York; six grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 18 step great-grandchildren; and one sister, Agnes Carlson of Maryland.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carolyn Marie; three brothers, Lars, Jens and Ansgar; and three sisters, Anna, Ingeborg and an infant sister.
Greeta Hauke
BURWELL -- Greeta Hauke, 95, of Burwell died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery.
Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice or the Community Memorial Health Center.
Mrs. Hauke was born on April 23, 1902, near Burwell to Harvey R. and Jennie (Smith) Brown. She was educated north of Burwell, in Taylor and in Kearney. She earned a bachelor's degree in home economics and chemistry in 1926.
She taught high school home economics and chemistry and took summer school classes at the University of Nebraska. She also took graduate courses at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., Colorado State University at Fort Collins and the University of Wyoming.
She became Buffalo County extension home economist in 1930. She also served as extension home economist in Custer and York counties before becoming an area extension home economist serving southeast Nebraska from an office in Lincoln.
She married
Arthur Hauke on July 18, 1934, in Taylor. The couple lived in various places including Las Cruces, N.M., and Berkeley, Calif. They later divorced.
Mrs. Hauke returned to Nebraska and continued her extension career. She was recognized by the National Association of Extension Home Economists in Washington, D.C., in 1965.
She retired on July 1, 1967, and returned to Burwell to help care for her mother, her brother Keith and his children after the death of his wife.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, DYS Home Extension Club and the Federated Women's Club. She was a member of Doric Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star for 76 years and delivered Meals on Wheels for several years.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Lincoln until transferring to the United Methodist Church in Burwell.
Survivors include one sister, Aural (Mrs. Eldon "Hop") Roblyer of Reno, Nev.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Leon; two brothers, Keith and an infant, Lester; and two sisters, Alice Hyde and Grace Christian.
LeRoy Miller
AURORA -- LeRoy "Unk" Miller, 83, of Aurora died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, in Memorial Community Care at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. The Rev. Joe Scahill will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Miller was born on Jan. 31, 1914, at Stockham to John and Margaret Miller. He attended District 85 School and graduated from Aurora High School. Following graduation, he helped on the family farm and helped organize the Stockham baseball team.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1945. After his discharge, he returned to the family farm. He and his mother moved into Aurora in 1953, and he continued farming. He entered Memorial Community Care in August 1987.
He was a member of Aurora Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4993, the Cooties and the Grand Island Eagles Club.
Survivors include two sisters, Pauline McConaughey and Tena Schaffert, both of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Alfred, Ed, Emil and Kenneth.
