Carol Veit
KEARNEY -- Carol M. Veit, 65, of Kearney died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. James' Catholic Church in Kearney with the Revs. Charles Torpey and Tom Mullowney officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna.
Wake services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney and prior to services Monday at the church.
Mrs. Veit was born on June 26, 1932, south of Ravenna to Carl J. and Alice V. (Moritz) Fiebig. She grew up in the area and graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1949. She attended Kearney State Teachers College and taught at a rural school in Buffalo County.
She married
Meryl M. Veit on April 15, 1950, in Pleasanton. They farmed south of Ravenna until 1963, then moved to Grand Island. They moved to Kearney in 1963, and she worked as a sales clerk at J.C. Penney and Sears. She worked in sales at Holmes Plumbing and Heating from 1974 to 1994. She then worked at Liberty Cleaners and was working part time at Quality Cleaners.
She was a member of St. James' Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters. Her hobbies included sewing and family activities.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Peg Dedrick of Kearney and Teri Johnson of Hastings; two sons, Ted Veit of Ravenna and Mike Veit of Columbus; nine grandchildren; one sister, Norma Johnson of Cozad; one brother, Charles Fiebig of Wayzata, Minn.; a half sister, Shelly Pollack of Fort Knox, Ky.; and a half brother, Jim Fiebig of Las Vegas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter, two grandchildren and one sister.
Adrian Cabrera
PAWNEE CITY -- Adrian Cabrera, 34, of Pawnee City, formerly of the Ansley area, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, in a car/train accident in Kansas.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Ansley. The Revs. Mel Shepherd and Robert White will officiate. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery.
Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Cabrera was born on July 19, 1963, in Houston to Pedro and Rosario (Castelan) Cabrera. After his education, he was a missionary with his father for two years in Mexico. He also worked in the appliance business for 17 years.
He married
Kristi Miller on June 4, 1994, at Sugarland, Texas. They moved to Pawnee City in August 1997.
He had been a member of the First Christian Church in Ansley and attended Faith Baptist Church in Pawnee City. He loved music and playing the guitar and enjoyed all sports, especially bowling.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Adrian "A.J." Cabrera Jr. of Pawnee City; one daughter, Karli Rose Cabrera of Pawnee City; an unborn child; his father, of Houston; five brothers, Pete Cabrera, Willy Cabrera and Kelly Cabrera, all of Houston, Gabriel Cabrera of Bessemer, Ala., and Michael Cabrera of Yuma, Ariz.; three sisters, Adella Rushing of Elgin, Tenn., Alma Garcia of Manvel, Texas, and Susie Montealeagre of Mexico; a half sister, Jasmine Cabrera of Houston; a half brother, Joshua Cabrera of Houston; and a mother-in-law, Elaine Miller of Ansley.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Leonard Coffey
EXETER -- Leonard C. Coffey, 81, of Exeter died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, in Exeter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Exeter with the Rev. John Graves officiating. Burial will be in the Exeter Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter. A rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Coffey was born on Aug. 13, 1916, in Crete to Edward and Magdalena (Patz) Coffey. He was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Reta Mae Coffey of Exeter; three sons, Richard Coffey of Beaver Crossing, Robert Coffey of Grand Island and John Coffey of Columbus; two daughters, Sylvia (Mrs. Ernest) Christensen of Columbus and Jeanette (Mrs. Raymond) Franzen of Exeter; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edward Coffey of Exeter.
Anna Saale
NEBRASKA CITY -- Anna Saale, 85, of Nebraska City, formerly of Cook, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ (Osage) near Cook. Burial will be in the church cemetery near Cook.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at Casey-Witzenburg Mortuary in Talmage.
Memorials are suggested to the Diabetes Foundation or the church.
Survivors include three sons, Merlin Saale of Talmage, Bob Saale of Burke, Va., and Norman Saale of Grand Island; one daughter, Betty (Mrs. Sterling) Teten of Talmage; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Sarah Schlachter
GARDEN CITY, Kan. -- Sarah Ann Schlachter, daughter of Craig and Laura (Marx) Schlachter of Garden City, Kan., died at birth Feb. 5, 1998.
Services were on Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill. Burial was in Calvary cemetery in O'Neill.
Survivors include her parents; one sister, Allison at home; maternal grandparents, Michael and Alice Marx of O'Neill; paternal grandparents, Gayle Schlachter of Hastings and Bob and Robee Bigelow of Grand Island; great-grandparents, LaVonne Schlachter of Hastings, Leo Marx of Spencer and Harold and Opal Halstead of Lynch.
Donald Wahl
SAN FRANCISCO -- Donald Leroy Wahl, 50, of San Francisco, formerly of Hastings, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at his home.
Memorials services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Christ in Hastings, with the Rev. Steve Ginn officiating.
Mr. Wahl was cremated. Private burial will be at a later date in the Juniata Cemetery.
Mr. Wahl was born on Feb. 13, 1947, near Cairo to Henry and Adeline (Johansen) Wahl. The family moved from the farm to Hastings in 1953, and he was educated at Hastings Public Schools.
He had lived and worked in California since 1968. Most recently, he worked as a disc jockey for private clubs.
He was an avid model car builder and collector.
Survivors include his mother, of Hastings; eight sisters, Violet Jackson of Fairfield, Viola Clements of Juniata, Velma Stevens of Evansville, Ind., Vera Nielsen of Stromsburg, Vivian Adler of Hastings, Velda Montey of Hastings, Virginia Beam of Perkasie, Pa., and Victoria Jones of Hastings; and four brothers, Kenneth of Hastings, Harold of Kearney, Lester of Red Cloud and Michael of Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Marjorie; and one brother, Delbert.
Bernard Conklin
Bernard Conklin, 83, of Grand Island died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services are pending with the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Louis Grein
Louis J. Grein, 81, of Parkplace Care Center, died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Vernon Rice officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Goodwill Victory House or the family.
Mr. Grein was born on Aug. 19, 1916, in Grand Island to Louis and Laura (Carson) Grein. He grew up in Grand Island and was educated there. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corporation after his education.
He married
Evelyn Slattery on Feb. 29, 1940, in Red Cloud. He worked in construction and carpentry in Grand Island until he and his wife began to operate the Grein Care Home from 1948 to 1972. His wife died in 1972. He also worked as a driver for Griswald Seeds and was employed by Delicious Foods.
He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and the Platt-Duetsche Society. His interests included farming and gardening.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Rock, Sarah Grein and Susan (Mrs. Bob) Meier, all of Grand Island; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Peg (Mrs. Herb) Winfrey of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1972, three sons, Charles, Louis and James, and two brothers, Arthur and Dale.
Arthur Neuharth
Arthur Neuharth, 90, of Grand Island died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at Bryan Memorial Hospital In Lincoln.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
