Mary Jane Sorensen
CENTRAL CITY -- Mary Jane Sorensen, 77, of Central City died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Integrated Health Services in Central City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Free Church in Central City. The Rev. David Hoesch will officiate. Mrs. Sorensen will be cremated following the services. There will be no inurnment.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Sorensen was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Cairo to Chester and Grace (Brayton) Omey. She grew up in the Cairo area and attended school at St. Michael.
She married
Virgil Harlan Sorensen on Nov. 18, 1938, in Grand Island. The couple then farmed in the Cairo area until 1957 and then moved to Wood River. In 1976, they moved to Polk. Mr. Sorensen died on Sept. 12, 1989. Mrs. Sorensen lied in Polk until moving to Merrick Manor in Central City in August 1998. She then moved to Integrated Health Services where she was at the time of her death.
Mrs. Sorensen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Polk. She collected stamps and enjoyed camping. She also enjoyed going to garage sales.
Survivors include two sons, Virgil Jr. of Polk and David of Central City; three daughters, Jeanie (Mrs. Ron) Kriley of Bradshaw, Clara Moody of Omaha and Debbie Grant (Mrs. Roger Carlstrom) of Polk; one sister, Irene Stoeger of Valentine; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lyle and Roy Omey; two sisters, Nora Smith and Doris Lane; and one infant grandchild.
Richard Widener
HASTINGS -- Richard D. Widener, 60, of Hastings died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Parkview cemetery at Hastings. The Rev. Harold Stromer will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Brand-Wilson Mortuary in Hastings.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Widener was born June 8, 1938, at Hastings to John and Ella (Kaiser) Widener. He graduated from Kenesaw High School. He worked for Skagway for several years and then Tri-City Wholesale, from which he retired in 1985, due to health.
Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Molt of Grand Island; two sons, Christopher Widener of Denver and John Widener of Grand Island; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Mary Field
O'NEILL -- Mary Field, 75, of O'Neill died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in O'Neill. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bartlett Cemetery. The Rev. Laurie Morrison-Sloat will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.
Mrs. Field was born March 30, 1924, at Ericson to John and Cressie (Lakey) Sanford. She obtained a bachelors degree from Kearney State College.
She married
Walter Field on June 28, 1942, at Yuma, Ariz. Mr. Field died Oct. 31, 1995.
Mrs. Field was an elementary school teacher in Keith and Wheeler counties for 25 years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, it's Friendly Circle, Alta Delta Kappa Honorary Sorority of Women Educators, American Legion Auxiliary, Nebraska State Education for Retired Teachers and was a member of it's board of directors for 2 years.
Survivors include four daughters, Sue (Mrs. Keith) Kasselder of Lander, Wyo., Peggy (Mrs. Warren) Rickard of Lincoln, Calif., Dixie (Mrs. Duane) Kruntorad of Norfolk and Tammy (Mrs. James) Hinkle of Lake Forest, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two infant brothers.
Margaret Eychner
Margaret S. Eychner, 94, of Grand Island died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at the St. Francis Memorial Health Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Gollaher Chapel in Grand Island. The Rev. George Wheat will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday with family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m., at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Stuhr Museum, or Grand Island Community Concert Association.
Mrs. Eychner was born on Feb. 8, 1903, to Leonard and Pha (Harlan) Schmitt at Jewell, Kan. She graduated from high school in Jewell and attended the University of Kansas.
She married
Vernon R. Eychner on Feb. 14, 1923, in Jewell. The couple lived in various places before settling in Grand Island in 1927. Mr. Eychner preceded her in death on June 15, 1973.
Mrs. Eychner was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She was also a member of the Cloverleaf Extension Club, president of the Platte School PTA, a life member of PTA, designated honoree of the Dedicated Light Nebraska United Methodist Womens' Conference, and a charter member of the Akita Club.
She was a patron of the Grand Island Community Concert Association and was an alumnus of the University of Kansas.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen (Mrs. Lyle) Knapp of Grand Island and Mary (Mrs. Robert) Deutschman of North Platte; one son, George of Kerrville, Texas; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister and one granddaughter.
Sophia Strohl
Sophia T. Strohl, 79, of 1710 St. Paul Road died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. John Kunze will officiate. Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Strohl was born April 25, 1918, to Emil and Lydra (Drohm) Duesterhoeft in Blue Hill. She was the fourth of 11 children and attended school in Blue Hill.
She married
Clyde Erwin Fielder on Sept. 25, 1938. She was widowed in 1944, the result of World War II.
She married
Lawrence A. Strohl on June 8, 1946. The couple lived in Hastings, Colorado Springs, Colo., Monument, Colo. and Grand Island. Mr. Strohl died in 1978.
Mrs. Strohl worked at the Hastings Ammunition Depot, Lowry Air Force Base in Denver and Fort Carson Army Base in Colorado Springs as a seamstress.
She worked for the school district in Monument, Colo., the Branding Iron Restaurant in Fairfield, and Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Grand Island. After retirement she worked as a demo lady at the Bag-N-Save in Grand Island.
Survivors include two sons, Wesley Fielder of Colorado Springs and Daniel Strohl of Grand Island; one brother, Albert Duesterhoeft of Blue Hill; five sisters, Hazel Albers of Ridge Crest, Calif., Frieda Repp of Hastings, Rosie Middlestat of Hastings, Lydia Urbach of Denver and Clara Duesterhoeft of Blue Hill; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by one son Gerald Fielder; one daughter Connie Fielder-Berry; one sister, one grandson and two brothers.
Victor Cook
NORTH LOUP -- Victor Cook, 93, of North Loup died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the North Loup United Methodist Church. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillside cemetery in North Loup.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials may be given to the North Loup United Methodist Church or the Valley County Hospital Foundation.
Rose Gardner
AURORA -- Rose Gardner, 92, of Aurora died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. The Rev. George Damm will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park cemetery in Lincoln.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Gardner was born Nov. 2, 1905, to Henry and Otillie (Mueller) Rahrs. She grew up and attended school in Hampton. In 1942, she moved to Lincoln until she returned to Aurora. She entered the Hamilton Manor at Aurora in Sept. 1987.
She married
Deacon R. Gardner in July 1955 at Hampton. He died on March 6, 1955.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
Survivors include her brother, Alvin Rahrs of Aurora, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Clarence and Elmer Rahrs and four sisters, Lena Reentz, Marcella Driewer, Lydia Maronde and Alma Rahrs.
