Maynard Hochstetler
CRETE -- Maynard Hochstetler, 65, of Crete died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete with the Rev. Robert Troyer officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside cemetery in Crete.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include his wife, Ardis; five daughters, Dela (Mrs. John) Miller of Lincoln, Doris (Mrs. Dave) Ritchie of Seward, Cindy (Mrs. Jim) Scherer of Crete, Betty Hochstetler of Lincoln, and Becky Hochstetler of Lincoln; two sons, Maynard of Crete and David of Crete; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Don, Roy and Lester; and a sister, Doris (Mrs. Leo) Kroll.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Asher.
Lon Pichler
NORFOLK -- Lon O. Pichler, 70, of Norfolk, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, at the Tilden Nursing Home in Tilden.
No services are planned. The body will be cremated.
Johnson-Stonacek Funeral Chapel of Norfolk is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pichler was born Feb. 6, 1928, to Lloyd and Helen (Harvey) Pichler at Dumas. He graduated from Chambers High School in 1945.
He married
Shirley Finch on May 31, 1947, at Smith Center, Kan. Mr. Pichler worked for Island Supply Welding Company as a route driver for 40 years. He retired in 1989.
He was member of the United Methodist Church in Norfolk.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Carolyn (Mrs. Gerry) Schulz of Pilger; Patricia (Mrs. Jack) Ritter of Alton, Iowa, and Linda (Mrs. Bob) Woolsey of Stanton; a son, Jerry of Norfolk; 10 grandchildren; and two brothers, Val and Larry, both of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, four brothers and a sister.
Isaias A. Aguilera
Isaias A. Aguilera, 29, of Grand Island died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kleine Funeral Home.
Robert Grennan
Robert J. Grennan, 73, of Grand Island died Friday, July 10, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Revs. Don Larmore and Jose Chaves will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested for Masses or the Central Catholic Foundation.
Mr. Grennan was born on Aug. 26, 1924, in Grand Island to Frank and Nellie (Wiley) Grennan. He was raised and educated in the Grand Island area, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945.
He married
Helen Alexander on Jan. 20, 1944, in Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island, where he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years. He was also in business with his father-in-law, Dave Alexander, at Central Electric Co.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and St. Leo's Catholic Church. He enjoyed golf and bridge.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Terry J. Grennan, Thomas A. Grennan, Ted R. Grennan and Todd M. Grennan, all of Omaha, and Tim W. Grennan of Carmichael, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; one brother, John Grennan of St. George, Utah; and one sister, Margaret Peterson of Salt Lake City.
He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Arthur Schultz
Arthur Schultz, 82, a resident of Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at Lakeview.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Schultz was born on Aug. 21, 1915, in Alda to Henry and Amanda (Rohweder) Schultz. He was educated at District 6 School. He lived his entire life on the family farm until poor health caused him to enter Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center.
Survivors include a brother, Henry Schultz of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph.
William 'Dale' Smith
William "Dale" Smith, 76, of Grand Island died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. William Forbes will officiate. Burial will be in Burkett cemetery on the grounds of the veterans home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the veterans home.
Mr. Smith was born on June 1, 1922, in Wolbach to Harley and Minnie (Schoening) Smith. He grew up and attended school in rural Nance County.
He married
Leah Rolf on Dec. 25, 1941, in Yuma, Ariz. They lived near Albion in Boone County, where Mr. Smith farmed. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from November 1942 to March 1947. Following the service, he continued farming and also did house painting and woodwork finishing.
He enjoyed fishing, traveling and animals.
He was a member of the Albion American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carolyn Theisen of Omaha and Charlotte Quiter of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Dewey Henry Smith.
Selma Bish
AURORA -- Lena Selma Bish, 98, of Aurora, formerly of Giltner, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. The Rev. Dwight DeLaet will officiate. Burial will be in the Giltner Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Miss Bish was born on Dec. 17, 1899, on a farm southwest of Giltner to Peter and Augusta (Hoffman) Bish. She grew up and attended country school southwest of Giltner. Her family later moved to a house on the south edge of Giltner.
In 1926, they purchased a home on the west side of Giltner, where she and her parents lived. She cared for her parents until their deaths, and she continued to live in the family home. She entered Hamilton Manor in Aurora on Jan. 24, 1994.
She worked for a number of years at the Giltner telephone office, then as a clerk in the Giltner Grocery Store. She later worked at the Giltner post office until her retirement in the 1970s.
She attended Sunday school and church at the Greenwood Methodist Episcopal Church and later became a member of the Giltner United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling and had toured many states. She took an active part in the Giltner Project Club and senior citizens meetings. She enjoyed caring for her flower gardens.
Survivors include a nephew, Milan Bish of Grand Island; and nieces.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Nona Gibson
SARGENT -- Nona Gibson, 86, of Sargent died Friday, July 10, 1998, at Goli Medical Center in Sargent.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Murry Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Hope cemetery in Sargent.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
