Lawrence Haddix
CENTRAL CITY -- Lawrence L. Haddix, 97, of Central City died Friday, July 10, 1998, at Litzenberg Long-term Care in Central City.
Solt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
John 'Bus' Lord
Aurora -- John Hamilton "Bus" Lord, 78, of Aurora, former owner of Lord's Shoe Service in Aurora, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, in Memorial Community Care at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Aurora United Methodist Church. The Rev. Peggy Michael-Rush will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mr. Lord was born on Aug. 1, 1919, in Aurora to John and Lucy (Willis) Lord. He attended the Aurora schools. At age 15, he took over his father's shoe repair business and cared for his parents. His father went blind, and he brought him to work each day by wheelchair.
He married
Doris Moore on Oct. 17, 1943, at Aurora. He and his wife operated Lord's Shoe Service for 53 years, repairing shoes sent to him from all over the United States. He was stricken with polio on Dec. 11, 1949. He received therapy at home and eventually regained use of his left side and returned to work.
He was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church and the chamber of commerce. He was a life member of the Plainsman Museum and a past master of Aurora Masonic Lodge 68 A.F. and A.M.
Survivors include three sons, Roger of Ladsen, S.C., Michael of Millbrae, Calif., and Gary of Mesa, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.
His wife died on Dec. 30, 1995. He also was preceded in death by a half brother, Clint Carl; and a half sister, Faye Dahms.
Daniel Rynearson
HASTINGS -- Daniel E. Rynearson, 65, of Hastings died Friday, July 10, 1998, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings with Monsignor John J. McCabe officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home and one hour before services Tuesday at the church. Rosary services will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the family's choice.
Mr. Rynearson was born on Sept. 19, 1932, in Prosser to Carl and Clara (Frasier) Rynearson. He moved to Hastings at an early age and attended St. Cecilia's Catholic School and Hastings High School, where he graduated in 1951. He entered the U.S. Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock. After his discharge in 1955, he returned to Hastings and managed O.P. Skaggs supermarket.
He married
Jean Lutzwick in 1956 at Hastings. They moved in 1961 to Lincoln, where he managed an O.P. Skaggs supermarket for two years. He then returned to Hastings and was a supervisor for Fleming Food Co. for two years. He retired in 1996 after 30 years of service with Hershey's Chocolate Co.
He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Eagles. He was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus and worked with the Association for Retarded Citizens.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Patrick Rynearson and Bryan Rynearson, both of Hastings; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Lester Schweitzer
BERWYN -- Lester J. Schweitzer, 71, of Berwyn died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, in Buhl, Idaho.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bob Winn will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Schweitzer was born on July 29, 1926, in Milford to Menno and Cassie (Stutzman) Schweitzer. He attended school at Milford until 1936, when he moved with his family to Merna. He finished his schooling in Merna.
He then began farming and ranching and doing mechanical work for the Bates Ranch and Bates Implement.
He married
Mildred Johnson on June 19, 1949, in Broken Bow. He farmed and worked as a mechanic in Custer County all of his life. He also owned and operated Schweitzer Repair at Broken Bow for 25 years.
He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Ron of Minden, Larry of Merna, Randy and Jere, both of Broken Bow, and Bob of Berwyn; one daughter, Luella (Mrs. Rick) Leach of Arcadia; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Alverta Eichelberger of Buhl, Idaho, Delores Gascho of Cairo and Sylvia Johnson of Broken Bow.
He was preceded in death by one grandson; one brother, Clyde; and one sister, Hazel.
Charles Sierks
DUNNING -- Charles H. Sierks, 81, of Dunning died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at the Callaway District Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Open Bible Church in Dunning. The Rev. Helen Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Dunning Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mr. Sierks was born on June 11, 1917, in Blaine County to Charlie and Ivy (Shannon) Sierks. He attended school in Dunning, where he graduated from high school.
He married
Bernice Brinson on May 30, 1942, in Thedford. They lived at the Sierks Ranch throughout their marriage. He was also a school bus driver and caretaker of the Dunning cemetery for many years.
He was a member of the Open Bible Church in Dunning, the Horned Hereford Association, the Blaine County Ag Society, the Blaine County Fair Board, District 21 school board and 4-H Club.
Survivors include his wife, of the Callaway Good Samaritan Center; one daughter, Noreene Gill of Dunning; one son, Marvin Sierks of Dunning; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Tom Sierks of Dunning and Gene Sierks of North Platte.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Eileen Wescott; and one brother, Fred Sierks.
Vera Wolles
MISSION, Texas -- Graveside services for Vera Wolles, 98, of Mission, Texas, formerly of Grand Island, will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Mrs. Wolles died on June 4, 1998, at Mission. She was cremated.
Kreidler Funeral Home of McAllen, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.
Victor Cook
NORTH LOUP -- Victor Cook, 93, of North Loup, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the North Loup United Methodist Church. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery at North Loup.
Memorials are suggested to the North Loup United Methodist Church or the Valley County Hospital Foundation.
Mr. Cook was born Sept. 17, 1904, to James and Ella (Jameson) Cook in Cass County. He grew up in Valley County and attended Valleyside rural school west of Ord.
He married
Dorothy Bohrer on June 28, 1928, at her parents' home in North Loup. She died on Feb. 11, 1991.
The couple farmed near North Loup until 1934, when they moved to Pennsylvania for a short time. They returned to the Mira Valley area where he worked for Ben Hackel until March 1936. They moved to a farm west of Ord and lived there until 1943 when they moved to a farm west of North Loup. He entered the Corner Cottage in August 1996.
He was a 50-year member of the North Loup United Methodist Church and a charter member of the North Loup Lions. He also belonged to the Ord Elks Lodge and served on various school boards and the ASCS Committee.
He loved to garden and was a staunch supporter of the Kansas City Royals.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellora Jane (Mrs. Dean) Rasmussen of North Loup; a son, Ken Cook of Adams; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Williams of Lexington.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and three brothers, Ivan, Howard and Elroy.
