Esther Randall
GIBBON -- Esther Randall, 102, of Gibbon died Friday, May 15, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon.
Services are pending with Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon.
Carl Stark
RAVENNA -- Carl Stark, 85, of Ravenna died Friday, May 15, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Arnold Kramer will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Stark was born on Oct. 23, 1912, in Buffalo County to Adolph and Augusta Stark. He was educated at the Poole School.
He married
Evelyn Lux on May 22, 1933. The couple lived in Ravenna. He sold Chief bins and buildings and farmed near Ravenna for many years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ravenna, the Oddfellows Lodge and Masonic Lodge 289. He also served as a Buffalo County supervisor.
Survivors include one son, Gary Stark of Lincoln; one daughter, Carletta Michel of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and three sisters.
Evelyn Thomssen
Evelyn I. Thomssen, 85, of Tiffany Square Care Center died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Tiffany Square.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Revs. John Reehl, Robert Harms and Martin Schmidt will officiate. There will also be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Thomssen was born Oct. 6, 1913, in Platte Center to Charles and Minnie (Petersen) Grossnicklaus. She grew up near Platte Center and attended rural school there and then graduated from Platte Center High School.
She then attended Wayne State College for one year, and Grand Island School of Business for one and one-half years.
She married
Eli Thomssen on Aug. 15, 1935, in Platte Center. The couple lived on a farm southwest of Grand Island until 1962, and then moved into Grand Island.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Ruth Society, and the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Platt-Duetsche Ladies Society and was also a past secretary/treasurer of the Nebraska State Extension Council.
Survivors include two sons, Eli Thomssen Jr. of Kalamazoo, Mich. and Darrel Thomssen of Kansas City, Mo.; and one daughter, Ardyce (Mrs. Wayne) Arnold of Shelton; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lauretta Becher of Columbus and Mila Wilson of pacific Grove, Calif.; and two brothers, Duane Grossnicklaus of Bartlett and Merlin Grossnicklaus of Ainsworth.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986; one son, Neal Thomssen; one sister, Gladys Goehring; and one brother, Leonard Grossnicklaus.
Delbert Alder
BURWELL -- Delbert D. Alder, 88, of Burwell died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at the Sargent Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Alder was born May 6, 1910, at Opportunity to William and Mary Ellen (Fleek) Alder. He worked as a farm hand in the Opportunity and Dorsey areas.
He joined the U.S. Airforce on May 4, 1942, and spent time in Italy. He was honorably discharged Nov. 29, 1945, after being injured in a jeep accident.
He later worked as a farm hand in Orchard and as a mechanic for Holiday Implement. He was also a police officer in Orchard.
Mr. Alder married
Martha Waterman Oct. 1, 1964, in Orchard. They went on to reside in Orchard, Page, Neligh and after retirement, Burwell. He was a resident of the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell and the Sargent Nursing Center until his death.
He enjoyed gardening and repairing lawn mowers and small engines.
He was preceded in death by his wife; eight brothers; and two sisters.
Leona Foster
BROKEN BOW -- Leona Belle Foster, 87, of Broken Bow died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at her home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bill Jay will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. at Govier Brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Assembly of God Church.
Mrs. Foster was born May 22, 1911, to John Harrison and Eva Adell (Cobly) Bryan in the Clear Creek Community, between Ansley and Mason City. She grew up in the Clear Creek Community and attended Banner School.
She married
Leonard Foster at Aurora on Jan. 29, 1932. The couple lived on a farm east of Berwyn. They retired from farming in 1975. In November 1980 they moved to Broken Bow. Mr. Foster died in May 1992.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Broken Bow.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Foster of Dubois, Wyo., and Lynn Foster of Berwyn; one daughter, LeaDell (Mrs. Fred) Jones of Broken Bow; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred Daley of Sun City, Ariz.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers and three grandsons.
Gary Kilgore
RAVENNA -- Gary Kilgore, 64, of Ravenna died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
Survivors include his wife, Rhoda Kilgore of Ravenna; and three stepchildren, Linda Gail Williams and Aubrey Williams, both of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Sandy Williams of Sacramento, Calif.
Lela Munnell
SARGENT -- Lela Grace Munnell, 96, of Sargent, formerly of Brewster, died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Goli Medical Center in Sargent.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Valley Gospel Church near Brewster. The Rev. Don Schauda will officiate. Burial will be in the Brewster Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mrs. Munnell was born on Sept. 21, 1902, near Callaway to John H. and Alice (Colby) Solt. She grew up and attended school in the Callaway area.
She married
Charles B. Munnell on June 30, 1928, at North Platte. The couple moved to a ranch southeast of Brewster in March 1939. Mr. Munnell died in July 1963.
Mrs. Munnell moved to Sargent in 1964. She spent many years taking care of elderly people in their homes. She entered Goli Medical Center in May 1998.
Survivors include 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Carl and Franklin; one infant daughter; three brothers; and two sisters.
