Lavina Orshek
CEDAR RAPIDS -- Lavina Orshek, 95, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. John Nelson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Mrs. Orshek was born Dec. 6, 1903, on a farm near Pittsburg, Kan., to Charles and Betha (Hadlock) Sweeney. The family later moved to Fullerton, and Mrs. Orshek graduated from Fullerton High School.
She married
Arthur Orshek on Dec. 1, 1924, in Council Bluffs. They lived in Cedar Rapids, where Mrs. Orshek was a homemaker and part-time employee of the Bethscheider grocery store from 1945 to 1983.
She joined St. John's Lutheran Church in 1925, and was a member of Ladies Aid. She also served on the Library Board and was a member of the Cedar Rapids Civics Club.
She moved to Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in 1992.
Survivors include her son, Richard Orshek of Austin, Minn.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Lawrence, Leonard, Neal and Daniel; and one sister, Evelyn Henn.
Janis Penny
SARGENT -- Janis Penny, 66, of Sargent died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Jenny Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Sargent. The Rev. Marty Robbins will officiate. Mrs. Penny will be cremated.
Rhoad Funeral Home of Sargent is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Penny was born on Nov. 22, 1932, in Broken Bow to George and Mae (Livingston) Briggs. She attended Shiloh Country School and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1951. She worked as a waitress at the Arrow Hotel in Broken Bow.
She married
Windsor Penny on April 18, 1953, at Fort Sill, Okla. They lived at Fort Sill until her husband was shipped to Korea for the Korean War. After his discharge, they moved in 1955 to their home northeast of Sargent and helped his father on the farm.
They moved to Horse Creek, Wyo., in 1956. Mrs. Penny moved back to Broken Bow with her children in 1968, and Mr. Penny worked in Cheyenne, Wyo. She moved to Cheyenne in 1969. She was a seamstress for Montgomery Ward and later worked for a dry cleaner and laundry as a seamstress.
Gardening and cross-stitching were her hobbies.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Jim of Midway, Ky., Will of Sargent, Allen of Holdrege and Roy of Bellevue; one daughter, Julie Penny of Cheyenne; eight grandchildren; four brothers, Don Briggs of Kearney, Russ Briggs of Paris, Ky., Gary Briggs of Wayzata, Minn., and George Briggs Jr. of Arlington, Texas; and six sisters, Margaret Briggs and Joyce Munnell, both of Kearney, Leah Burnett of Anselmo, Carol Herbin of Bellevue, Retha Harris of Bloomfield, Mich., and Cheryl Briggs of Springfield, Ill.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob, Dean and an infant brother, Jimmy.
Vernal Wisely
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Vernal P. Wisely, 49, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Denver, Colo.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Kleine Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Eric Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Dovie Oleson
Dovie P. Oleson, 92, of Grand Island died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Community Care of Grand Island.
Servives will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Richard M. Bacon will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Marc A. Neppl, 31, of 417 N. Custer died Friday, June 19, 1998, as a result of an auto accident near Ord.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Richard Bacon and the Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Kleine Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family or the American Cancer Society.

ORD -- Donna M. Reineke, 50, of Ord died Friday, June 19, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island following a traffic accident.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Community Christian Church east of Burwell on Highway 91. Burial will be in the Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
'Jean' McMullen
JOHNSON'S LAKE -- Norma "Jean" McMullen, 67, of Johnson's Lake near Lexington died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at Aurora, Colo.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Jocelyn B. Tupper will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. McMullen was born on Oct. 31, 1930, to Boyd E. and Ruby P. (Engle) Ramsey at Grand Island. She grew up and was educated in Grand Island. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1948. After her graduation, she worked at the First National Bank in Grand Island.
She married
Wally McMullen on Sept. 3, 1950, in Grand Island. After which, the couple lived in Central City. In 1956, they moved to Ravenna and in 1963, they returned to Grand Island. In 1967, they moved to Hastings and she worked part time for the Hastings Public Schools. She retired in 1990 and the couple moved to Johnson Lake near Lexington. Mr. McMullen died in 1991.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Hastings and a past member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She also attended Sunday services at Lakeside Chapel at Johnson's Lake. She was a member of the Mermaids swim exercise group and the Shriners Card Club of Lexington. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Dave McMullen of Grand Island and Ron McMullen of Aurora, Colo.; one daughter, Pamela (Mrs. Richard) Clark of Sterling, Colo.; six grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Ramsey of Seattle, Wash.; and five sisters, Pat (Mrs. Wayne) Ivey of Phoenix, Ariz., Mary (Mrs. Tom) Talbot of Fort Worth, Texas, Betty (Mrs. William) Wilson of Everett, Wash., Peggy (Mrs. Jerry) Keenan of Lomita, Calif., and Sheryl (Mrs. Vaughn) Trueman of Evansdale, Iowa.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.
'Don' Supencheck
LINCOLN -- Gary Donald "Don" Supencheck, 33, of Lincoln died Friday, June 19, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney of injuries suffered in a pickup accident near Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Don Larmore will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Survivors include a son, Tristan Dade Reutzel of Lincoln; his mother and stepfather, Roberta and Terry Kucera of Grand Island; his father, Gary Supencheck of Reno, Nev.; three brothers, Kerry, Russell and Rob, all of Grand Island; one sister, Shelly Sok of Grand Island and two stepsisters, Tonia Kucera of Omaha and Terri Yanoviak of Littleton, Colo.
