Ray Schleicher
Ray J. Schleicher, 72, of 2807 W. Faidley died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Envoy Jim Tooley will officiate. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell.
Mr. Schleicher will be cremated, and there will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
Mr. Schleicher was born on June 6, 1925, in Grand Island to Gottleib and Marie (Heimbuch) Schleicher. He grew up and was educated in Grand Island. He attended Grand Island High School and attended two years at Grand Island Baptist College.
He served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 7, 1945, to Dec. 27, 1946. After the service, he lived in California and worked as a custodian at a school in Anaheim. He moved back to Grand Island in 1983.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1347, the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the Amvets.
Survivors include two brothers, Samuel Schleicher of Grand Island and Don Schleicher of Chadron.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, George, William and Harry; and two sisters, Dorothy and Evelyn Schleicher.
Catherine Kerrigan
GREELEY -- Catherine Kerrigan, 90, of Greeley died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, at the Greeley Care Home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Rev. Gerald Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., Friday at the church.
T.J. Finn and Sons Funeral Home in Greeley is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Kerrigan was born on May 29, 1907, at Greeley to Charles and Ida (Bixenmann) Harris. She grew up in Greeley and graduated from Greeley Public Schools.
She married
Frank Bryer on Feb. 8, 1927. The couple lived in Greeley and Omaha. Mr. Bryer died on June 21, 1937.
She married
Joe Kerrigan on April 25, 1949, at St. Mary's Church in Kodiak, Alaska. The couple lived in Alaska until his death on June 11, 1957. She returned to Greeley in 1957. She worked at the Greeley County Courthouse and St. John's Hospital in Spalding until her retirement. She moved to the Greeley Care Home in July 1997.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Survivors include one son, Peter J. Kerrigan of Greeley; four grandchildren; and two brothers, James and Harry, both of Greeley.
Besides her two husbands, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter; two brothers, Paul Harris and Charles Harris; and one sister, Marie Holst-Smith.
Neola Shoemaker
ORD -- Neola Shoemaker, 89, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at her home in the Springdale area east of Ord.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ord Memorial Chapel. John Orchard will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery at Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Ord Volunteer Fire Department.
Edna Wichmann
PALMER -- Edna Emilie Wichmann, 92, of Palmer died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at Community Care of America in Palmer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Wichmann was born on Jan. 9, 1905, on a farm east of Worms to Wm F. and Marie (Loeffelbein) Bader. She grew up in that community and attended District 28 School southeast of Worms. After completing her education, she remained at home helping her parents. As a young woman, she was a domestic cleaner for W.W. Arrasmiths in Grand Island.
She married
Wm "Bill" Wichmann on March 24, 1926, at Grand Island. They farmed south of Palmer until March 1957, when they moved to Grand Island. Mr. Wichmann died on Feb. 26, 1987. Mrs. Wichmann continued to live in their home until April 1995, when she moved to Community Care of America in Palmer.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and flowers.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche Ladies Society for 39 years.
Survivors include one son, John Wichmann of Palmer; two daughters, Della Mae (Mrs. Gene) Boltz of Grand Island and Mandeline (Mrs. Oliver) Simonson of St. Libory; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter; two great-grandsons; four brothers, Arnold, Alfred, Edgar and Martin; and one sister, Elvera Peters.
Earl Moser
DORCHESTER -- Earl Moser, 88, of Dorchester died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, at the Friend Manor in Friend.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Dorchester United Methodist Church. The Rev. Pat Kelley will officiate. Burial will be in the Dorchester Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home in Friend and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Moser was born on Nov. 5, 1909, on a farm northwest of Dorchester to Melvin and Harriet (Nichols) Moser. He attended White Cloud Country School northwest of Dorchester and graduated from Dorchester High School in 1927.
He married
Louise Dainton on April 29, 1933, in the Dorchester United Methodist Parsonage. They lived and farmed on the home place northwest of Dorchester. He later was a custodian at the Dorchester Public Schools for nearly 30 years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Dorchester. He enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include three sons, William Moser of Friend, Robert Moser of Mount Holly Springs, Pa., and Richard Moser of Grand Island; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
His wife died in 1996. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Jay Moser; a sister, Lora Freitag; a half brother, Roy Moser; and a half sister, Fern Johnson.
Esther Skinner
GERING -- Esther A. Skinner, 79, of Gering died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at Heritage Health Care Center in Gering.
Memorial services were on Tuesday at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Skinner was cremated. Burial will be at a later date in Stuart Community Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Mrs. Skinner was born on Dec. 14, 1917, at Newport to Francis and Bertha (Conrad) Irwin. She grew up and was educated in Newport.
She married
Donald Glenn Skinner on Oct. 25, 1934, in South Dakota. They moved in 1960 to Gering, where she was a waitress at the Scotts Bluff Country Club and Chuckwagon Restaurant and a cook at Hiram Scott College.
She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star of Newport and the Regional West Medical Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters, Yvonne Miller of Cortez, Colo., and Vicki (Mrs. Rich) Celli of Gering; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Francis "Bud" Irwin of Central City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters and a brother.
