Mary Tomasiewicz
CENTRAL CITY -- Mary Tomasiewicz, 95, of Central City died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, at Community Care in Central City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City. The Rev. Nelson Newman will officiate. Burial will be in St. Lawrence's cemetery near Silver Creek.
A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.
Solt Funeral Home of Central City is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Tomasiewicz was born on April 15, 1903, south of Genoa to Thomas "Savage" and Julia (Iwan) Tomasiewicz. She was educated at the Krakow Catholic School south of Genoa, Nancy County rural schools and Genoa High School.
She lived most of her life in rural Merrick County north and east of Clarks on the family farm. She began managing the farm during World War II. She and her sister, Anna, moved to Central City in 1967. She spent her life as a homemaker, doing housekeeping and providing child care.
She served on the Merrick County District 16 school board for 16 years. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
Survivors include three sisters, Ann Tomasiewicz of Central City, Helen (Mrs. James) Sellars of Houston and Kathryn (Mrs. Albin) Prososki of Osceola; and two brothers, Tony Savage of Central City and Louis Savage of Glendale, Calif.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Savage and Francis and Joe Tomasiewicz; and an infant sister.
Hannah Burns
LAUREL -- Hannah C. Burns, 91, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, at Osmond General Hospital.
Services were on Tuesday at the Logan Center United Methodist Church, north of Laurel. Schumacher-Hasemann Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Burns was born on Dec. 17, 1906, on a farm north of Laurel to August and Paulina (Brewer) Pehrson. She was educated in Cedar County and graduated from Laurel High School in 1924.
She married
Raymond A. Burns on Feb. 8, 1926, at Sioux City, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Logan Center community for 60 years.
She was a member of the Logan Center United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Duane Burns of Grand Island; one daughter, Elaine (Mrs. Marvin) Draghu of Wakefield; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband in 1986. She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Anita Rae; two infant grandsons; and four brothers, John, Uris, Raymond and Roy Pehrson.
Max Berumen
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Max Berumen, 86, of Little Rock, Ark., died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wood River. The Rev. Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with the rosary at 6 p.m., Monday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Berumen was born on Jan. 20, 1912, at Italy, Texas, to Maurillo and Eulalia (Ramirez) Berumen. He grew up and was educated in Lexington. Mr. Berumen was a World War II veteran.
He married
Mable Carter in 1946. They lived in Little Rock, Ark., where he owned a barber shop and worked up until the time of his illness.
He visited his Nebraska family every summer and always remained a Husker fan.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Doris Colby of Las Vegas; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and six sisters, Norma Garcia of Virginia, Dora Pedrosa of Chicago, Mary (Mrs. Raymond) Robles of Omaha and Nellie Haro, Louisa Zavala Borrego and Josephine Gallardo, all of Wood River.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Tony, Ben and George Berumen; and one sister, Lena Berumen.
Edna Collinson
BROKEN BOW -- Edna M. Collinson, 91, of Broken Bow died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Steve Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Foundation.
Mrs. Collinson was born on March 1, 1907, at Archer to Charles and Elizabeth (Lehr) Huff. She was the second in a family of 10 children. She attended school in Merrick County and graduated from Central City High School. After her schooling, she taught in Merrick County.
She married
Byron H. Collinson in Central City on April 11, 1929. They farmed in the Ash Creek community. They bought a farm west of Broken Bow in the 1940s, which was her home until just recently. Mr. Collinson died in September 1974.
She was a member of the National Grange and gave many hours to the Custer County Extension Club and Custer County Store.
Survivors include one son, Leroy of Broken Bow; two brothers, Walter Huff of Broken Bow and John Huff of Lake Forest, Calif.; and one sister, Elizabeth Crosby of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by two infant sons, one infant daughter, three sisters and three brothers.
Howard Peck
SHELTON -- Howard H. Peck, 85, of Shelton died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, at Haven Home in Kenesaw.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Shelton First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Charles Spence and Bruce Demmel officiating. Burial will be in Shelton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Peck was born on April 16, 1913, at Shelton to Charles and Bertha (Johnson) Peck. He attended school in Shelton and graduated from Shelton High School in 1930. He attended college for one year at Kearney.
He married
Julia Norton on July 18, 1939. He was self-employed most of his life, dealing with cattle, horses and dogs. He spent five years at Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island as a government safety inspector.
He loved singing, including solos and with quartets. Mrs. Peck died in 1974.
He was a member of Shelton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Janie (Mrs. Lynn) McBride of Shelton; two granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma (Mrs. Elmer) VanWinkle of Seattle, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one half-sister and one half-brother.
Raymond Zarek
COLUMBUS -- Raymond E. Zarek, 31, of Columbus died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton with the Rev. Jim Howland officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in rural Genoa.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Northstar Region 4 in Columbus.
Mr. Zarek was born on Sept. 16, 1967, at Fullerton to Adelbert and Bonnie (Purvis) Zarek. He attended Northstar Region 4 in Columbus. He lived in a residential home on 15th Street in Columbus. He enjoyed family gatherings, music, dancing and eating out.
Survivors include his parents; three brothers, Alan Zarek of Genoa, Dennis Zarek of Fullerton and Doug Zarek of Grand Island; and four sisters, Deb, Kathy and Amy Zarek, all of Fullerton and Karen (Mrs. John) Kelty of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
