Ruth Shoemaker
COZAD -- Ruth Shoemaker, 92, formerly of Mason City, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at South View Manor Nursing Home in Cozad.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. David Harder will officiate. Burial will be in the Box Elder Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
A memorial has been established to the Burr Oak Church Building Fund.
Mrs. Shoemaker was born on Dec. 18, 1905, at Sumner to Walter and Ethel (George) Curtis. At a young age, she moved with her parents from Sumner to a ranch south of Dunning. They later moved to Anselmo.
She attended school at Anselmo and graduated from Anselmo High School. She attended Kearney State Teachers College and taught in rural Custer County schools for five years.
She married
Ray Shoemaker on July 31, 1928, at Kearney. They lived on a farm 18 miles southwest of Mason City. Mr. Shoemaker died in 1986. Mrs. Shoemaker had lived at South View Manor in Cozad for two and a half years.
She was a member of the Burr Oak Church and Ladies Bible Study and taught adult Sunday school for several years. She was also a member of the Willing Workers Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Maxine Wright of Cozad; one son, Kenneth Shoemaker of Mason City; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Harold Curtis of Anselmo and Lloyd Curtis of Broken Bow.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother.
'Pat' Stittle
ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Ruth "Pat" Stittle, 70, of Alameda, Calif., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, in Alameda.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Rod Pruss will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery in Buffalo County.
A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Rasmussen Mortuary of Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on April 15, 1927, in Maryland.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Alameda.
Survivors include her husband, Fred; one daughter, Michelle Cleary Dawe of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; two granddaughters; and her mother-in-law, Gertrude Stittle of Ravenna.
David Whitford
Long Beach, Calif. -- David Christopher Whitford, 32, of Long Beach, Calif., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at Houston.
Alief Sharpstown Funeral Home in Houston was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Fairbury Cemetery.
Mr. Whitford was born on Feb. 21, 1965, in Long Beach, Calif., to D.B. and Sharon Whitford. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1983.
He entered the U.S. Air Force and graduated from the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Language Center, in Monterey, Calif. in 1984.
Survivors include his parents, Don and Sharon Howk of Grand Island and D.B. Whitford of Riverside, Calif.; three brothers, Donald, Cary and Monte; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M.P. Bodtke of Yuma, Ariz., and Mr. and Mrs. I. Roweel of Yucaipa, Calif.
Willie Peters
Willie F. Peters, 87, of rural Grand Island died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel Bremer will officiate. Burial will be in the Worms West Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Peters was born on Jan. 29, 1910, in Howard County to Friedrich N. and Emma (Luebbe) Peters. He grew up and was educated in Merrick County.
He married
Elvera Bader on June 4, 1930, at St. Paul's English Lutheran Church in Grand island. The couple lived on a farm two miles south of Worms until 1960. He then worked as a carpenter for a construction company for 15 years before retiring.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche Society.
Survivors include five sons, Ralph Peters of Henderson, Roy Peters of Wood Lake and Marvin Peters, Billie Peters and Larry Peters, all of Grand Island; two daughters, Rosella (Mrs. Ed) Hogle of Wood River and Bonnie (Mrs. Don) James of Grand Island; 25 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; one brother, Herman Peters of Palmer; and three sisters, Frieda Bader of Marion, Iowa, Alma (Mrs. Arnold) Dammann of St. Libory and Edna (Mrs. Eric) Kuck of Grand Island.
His wife died in 1991. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, LaVerna Moeller; two grandchildren; three brothers, Henry, Walter and Edward; and two sisters, Mamie and Meta.
Dackotea Olson
NORFOLK -- Dackotea James Olson, 7-week-old son of Jeremy Olson and Tina Scarlett of Norfolk, died Nov. 23, 1997, at his home.
Services were on Nov. 26 at Sacred Heart Church in Norfolk. Burial was in Babyland at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Norfolk.
Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home of Norfolk was in charge of arrangements.
Dackotea was born on Oct. 3, 1997, in Norfolk.
Survivors include his parents; a brother, Dustin; grandparents, Terry and Lori Sindelar of Arvada, Colo., Donald Scarlett Jr. of Phoenix and Jim and Sondra Olson of Norfolk; and great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Nelson of Lakewood, Colo., Jean Scarlett of Grand Island, Jim Scarlett of St. Edward, Catherine Ainsworth of Norfolk and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Olson of Norfolk.
Mildred Robinson
COLUMBUS -- Mildred S. Robinson, 83, of Columbus, formerly of Belgrade, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church near Belgrade. The Rev. Robert Reimer will officiate. Burial will be in Belgrade Main Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Robinson was born on Dec. 12, 1913, on a farm northwest of Belgrade in Boone County to Marshall and Mable Oakley. She graduated from Wolbach High School in 1932.
She married
Arnold W. Robinson on Jan. 29, 1935. They farmed in the Belgrade area for many years. She worked on the Nance County Election Board for many years. Mr. Robinson died on June 30, 1980. Mrs. Robinson moved to Columbus in January 1989.
She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and the Sunshine Club in Belgrade.
Survivors include two sons, Harold of Columbus and Ronnie of Sheldon, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Eugene; five brothers and two sisters.
Winnifred Adelson
AUGUSTA, Kan. -- Winnifred G. Adelson, 90, of Augusta, Kan., formerly of Polk, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at the Augusta Medical Complex long-term care unit.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Swede Plain cemetery near Polk with the Rev. Jeff Thurman officiating.
Solt Funeral Home of Polk is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the public libraries in Wichita and Andover, Kan.
Mrs. Adelson was born on Feb. 9, 1907, in Goodland, Kan., to Harry and Harriette (Graham) McClure. She attended Fairmont Elementary School in Wichita, Kan., and graduated from Morningside High School in Sioux City, Iowa.
She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and taught in a one-room school in Polk County and at the high school in Palmer.
She married
Orlie Adelson on May 21, 1932. They lived on a Polk County farm for three years and then moved to Clarks. They moved to Kansas in 1942. They lived in Abilene for 10 years and in Augusta for three years before settling in Wichita in 1955. Mr. Adelson died in 1970.
Mrs. Adelson earned her bachelor's degree from Wichita State University and taught secondary school in Leon and Andover and elementary school in Wichita. She taught for nearly 25 years and continued in retirement to tutor students.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pi Beta Phi and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Wichita City Teachers Association, National Education Association and Kappa Kappa Iota.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Adelson of Andover, Kan., and Roger Adelson of Tempe, Ariz.; three grandsons; five great-grandchildren; and one half brother, Edward Moore of Oakland, Calif.
