Gerald T. Curnyn
OMAHA - Gerald T. Curnyn, 63, of Omaha, formerly of Greeley, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Rev. Gerald Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery in Greeley.
Visitation will be prior to services Tuesday, with a rosary at 10 a.m. at the church.
Memorials may be given to the Heart Association. T.J. Finn and Sons Funeral Home of Greeley is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Curnyn was born on Jan. 24, 1935, in Greeley to John and Marie (Murphy) Curnyn. The family moved to Omaha, and Mr. Curnyn graduated from Omaha Tech High School in 1953.
He worked for Braniff Airlines as a ticket agent for more than 35 years. He later worked for Air Midwest and took an early retirement because of health reasons.
Survivors include a brother, Larry Curnyn of Omaha; and two sisters, Kathleen McSherry of Yakima, Wash., and Rosalie Cullen of Wheat Ridge, Colo.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Curnyn; and three sisters, Margret Curnyn, Monica Lyman and Mary Jo Carlson.
Harold Ebel
COLUMBUS - Harold H. Ebel, 83, of Columbus died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in Columbus with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. The Rev. Dan Keller will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure's cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church. A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will resume from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Scotus Education Fund or the family's choice.
Mr. Ebel was born on Sept. 29, 1915, at Bellwood to Henry and Anna (Smith) Ebel. He attended school in Butler County.
He married
Verona Janicek on May 7, 1941, in Columbus. He served in the Air Corps during World War II from August 1941 to December 1945. He worked at Schweser's and then owned and operated Columbus Kitchen Center. He later worked at D&L; for 15 years before he retired.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Hartman Post 84, Nebraska Council of Catholic Scouts and was a charter member of Harold Squares Dance Club.
He also was involved in scouting for 35 years, receiving the Pete Lakers, Silver Beaver and St. George awards. He also served on St. Bonaventure's Parish Council and as Eucharistic minister, Mass server and volunteer school crossing guard at St. Bonaventure's School.
He enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary of Grand Island and Rick of Columbus; three daughters, Connie Hauk of Big Pine Key, Fla., Canice (Mrs. Lavern) Kobus and Annette (Mrs. Mike) Miller, both of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; one brother, Everette of Lincoln; and two sisters, Alma (Mrs. Ernie) Birkel of Fullerton and Olivia Birkel of David City.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Howard, Henry, George and John.
Laura Meyers
McCOOK - Laura Louise Meyers, 66, of McCook died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at Cambridge Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park in McCook. Jerry Beckenhauer will officiate. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park cemetery in McCook.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Meyers was born on Oct. 29, 1932, at Shelton to Edward Willis and Marie Emma (Schmidt) Deeds. She graduated from Boelus High School in 1950.
She married
Duane Kenneth Meyers on Feb. 14, 1951, at Grand Island. She worked at the Dayco Electric Hose Plant. The couple moved this year to the Cambridge Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Edward Dean Meyers of McCook, Allen Duane Meyers of Casper, Wyo., and Kenneth Eugene Meyers of McCook; one daughter, Dianna Lee (Mrs. Tom) Kauk of Trenton; four grandchildren; her mother, Marie (Mrs. Milton) Edghill of Shelton; three brothers, Edward Deeds of Mitchell, Jerry Deeds of Elkhorn and Roy Deeds of North Platte; and two sisters, Irma (Mrs. Milton) Schroeder of Shelton and Alice (Mrs. Bruce) Broberg of Grand Island.
Barton Rush
LINCOLN - Barton Rush, 74, of Lincoln died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Don Schauda will officiate. Burial will be in Grand View cemetery at Anselmo.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
A memorial has been established to the family.
Mr. Rush was born on April 2, 1924, in Sargent to Fred and Pearl (Aldridge) Rush. They moved to a ranch just west of Anselmo in 1937. He graduated from Anselmo High School in 1940. After his schooling, he developed a love for airplanes while working at the Air Force base in Alliance.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and attended pilot flight school at Morningside University in Iowa. He received his "wings" in 1943 in Arizona and became a flight instructor out of Bakersfield, Calif. He went on to fly B-25s during World War II at Columbia, S.C., until 1945. After the war, he returned to Anselmo to help his parents on the ranch.
He married
Vada Louise Leep in Norton, Kan. They left the ranch in 1966 and moved to Anselmo. They moved to Lincoln in 1980. Mr. Rush worked as a transport operator. He retired from Consolidated Freightways in October 1994 after 20 years service.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Cheryl Phillips of Lincoln, Marilyn (Mrs. Kenny) Jackson and Debra (Mrs. Joe) Smith, both of Lincoln; two sons, Byron Rush of North Platte and Bruce Rush of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Bradley Dean; and a brother, Jack Rush.
Joseph Manchi
PITTSBURGH - Joseph Manchi, 80, of Pittsburgh died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, in Pittsburgh.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Herschburger and Stover Funeral Home in Pittsburgh. Burial will be in Mount Lebanon cemetery in Pittsburgh.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Manchi was born on Nov. 10, 1918, at Washington, D.C., to Cesare and Victoria (Cordani) Manchi.
He married
Mary Covach on April 25, 1953, in Washington, D.C. He spent 26 years with the Department of Justice, working in the secret files department and winning many national awards for his work.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Bobbi Carlson of Omaha and Jo Ann Hauck of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, including Dax Carlson of Grand Island; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and Michael; and two sisters, Rosie Bowers and Jenny Hurniack.
'Lolly' Dippel
GIBBON -- Eulalla "Lolly" Dippel, 101, of Gibbon died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. The Rev. Mark W. Cadenbach will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery in Gibbon.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon Emergency Unit, Faith United Church, Gibbon Baptist Church or the Salvation Army.
Mrs. Dippel was born on Dec. 15, 1896, on the family farm southeast of Gibbon to Lawrence and Mary (Stearley) Vohland. She grew up there, attending a rural school in that area. She worked on the farm along with her family and tended the family's large apple orchard.
She married
William H. Winchester on Sept. 20, 1916. They lived on his family farm south of Gibbon. He died in December 1931.
She married
Chester Dippel on Dec. 24, 1941, and the couple lived on a farm southeast of Gibbon. He died in 1984, and she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon in 1985.
She studied and taught music for a number of years. She enjoyed music, children and pets.
She was a member of the Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge in Gibbon.
Survivors include one nephew, Perl Vohland of Gibbon; and two nieces, Dorothy Miller and Lula Zimmerman, both of Gibbon.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by six brothers and eight sisters.
Vernie Hughes
Stromsburg -- Vernie I. Hughes, 105, of Stromsburg died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Midwest Covenant Home chapel with the Rev. Duane Tweeten and Chaplain Dick Bauer officiating. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Palmers Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
