Bill Eppert
Bill L. Eppert, 77, of 1920 S. Gunbarrel Road died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Jocelyn Tupper will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Utica Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church.
Mr. Eppert was born on Feb. 1, 1921, at Utica to Fredrick and Marjorie (Greenwood) Eppert. He grew up and attended school in Utica, graduating from Utica High School in 1938. He farmed in Utica before entering the U.S. Army on July 15, 1942. He served in China, India and Burma. He was discharged on Dec. 12, 1945, then returned to Utica and farmed.
He married
Patricia Terry on June 12, 1949, in Grand Island. They farmed near Central City until moving to Grand Island in 1962. He continued farming and also traded horses. He trained and raced horses in Nebraska and coached Little League baseball in Grand Island.
He enjoyed animals and the outdoors.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge in Central City and American Legion in Utica.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Troy of Central City; one daughter, Marsha Eppert of Marshalltown, Iowa; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Winnifred Childers.
Robert Luth
LINCOLN -- Robert D. Luth, 49, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died of cancer Wednesday, June 3, 1998, in Lincoln.
Mr. Luth was state accounting administrator.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the State Capitol Rotunda in Lincoln. The Rev. Dan Safarik will officiate.
Additional services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Thursday and until 9 p.m. Friday at Roper and Sons Mortuary in Lincoln.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Luth was born in Grand Island to Lawrence and Leona Luth. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He worked as a certified public accountant prior to becoming state accounting administrator in 1983.
He had also served as the state's risk manager, interim director of the Finance and Support Agency of the state Health and Human Services System and acting director of the Department of Administrative Services.
He was past president of the National Association of State Comptrollers and served as president of the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers.
He also served on various committees and task forces of the American Institute of CPAs, the National Society of CPAs and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board. He was past trustee of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Accountancy.
He received the Marquis Award from the Mid-America Payment Exchange for his work in the development of the electronic funds transfer system.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Leona and Dwight Hayworth of Grand Island; and his father, Lawrence Luth of Washington.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Donna.
Lillian Boernke
Lillian B. Boernke, 97, of Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center died Oct. 27, 1998, at Lakeview.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert Harms will officiate. A family prayer service will be at 1:45 p.m. in the chapel of the church. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Boernke was born on April 4, 1901, in Wausau, Wis., to Edward and Otillie (Nickel) Kafahl. She was educated in Wausau.
She married
Edward Boernke on April 23, 1921, in Wausau. They came to Grand Island in 1947. Mr. Boernke died in 1982. Mrs. Boernke had lived at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center since 1996.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed china painting, ceramics and sewing.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruby (Mrs. Robert) Bissell and Judy Rasmussen, both of Grand Island; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, two brothers and one sister.
Loren Linton
Loren William Linton, 63, of Grand Island died Oct. 25, 1998, in a truck accident just east of Laramie, Wyo., on Interstate 80.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church. The Rev. William Voelker will officiate.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Linton was born on June 26, 1935, in Watertown, S.D., to Thomas and Berniece (Healy) Linton. They lived at Henry, S.D.
He married
Sandra Forst Andersen on Dec. 28, 1989, at Johnson Lake south of Lexington. He had been a driver for Sunrise Express of Grand Island for the past seven years.
Survivors include his wife; two stepchildren, Amanda Andersen of Grand Island and Raymond 'Dean' of Fort Worth, Texas; and two step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Roland Ruppel
TAYLOR -- Roland S. Ruppel, 89, of Taylor died Oct. 27, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate. Burial will be in Madison Square cemetery west of Taylor.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Loup County Rescue Unit.
Mr. Ruppel was born on Aug. 15, 1909, in Loup County to Lewis and Ethel (Strohl) Ruppel. He attended a Loup County country school and graduated from high school in York.
He married
Almeta Shettron on May 11, 1931, at North Platte. They lived in Sargent, where he trucked and raised quarter horses. They later moved to California for two years and then returned to Sargent.
He worked at an implement company in Sargent as a mechanic. He moved west of Taylor in 1954. He farmed and raised quarter horses all his life. They moved into Taylor in 1980.
He was a member of the Broken Bow Elks Lodge, a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association and a past chief of the Sargent Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include two sons, Ted of Perland, Texas, and Jack of Sargent; one daughter, JoAnn Jorgensen of Fremont; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Carl of Denver.
His wife died in 1989. He also was preceded in death by a grandson, two brothers and a sister, Mildred.
Emma Meyer
SALT LAKE CITY -- Emma L. Meyer, 87, of Salt Lake City, formerly of Worms, died Oct. 26, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church in Murray, Utah.
Memorial Gardens of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Emma L. Meyer Memorial Fund in care of 2557 Bueno Vista, West Jordan, Utah 84088.
Mrs. Meyer was born on June 11, 1911, at Steger, Ill., to the Rev. H. William and Emma Louise (Kruse) Meyer. The family moved to Hampton in 1916 and to Oxford in 1922.
She graduated from Oxford High School in 1929 and was chief telephone operator there. The family moved to Worms in 1933.
She met her future husband, Elmer J. Meyer, in Nebraska and followed him to Utah.
They were married
on Dec. 25, 1936, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Salt Lake City. She retired as an employee of First Security Bank after 17 years in the central operations center.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Roger of West Jordan, Utah; two daughters, Margaret Campbell of Saratoga, Calif., and Pauline Brown of Greenville, S.C.; eight grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; one brother, W.A. Meyer of Austin, Texas; and six sisters, Agnes Meyer of St. Paul, Louise Seim of Portland, Ore., Helen Miller of Neenah, Wis., Olga Seim of Grand Island, Ruth Seim of Hemet, Calif., and Selma Harris of Ogden, Utah.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
