Randolph Buresh
OMAHA -- Randolph L. Buresh, 69, of Omaha and formerly of North Bend, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Leo Catholic Church at Snyder with the Rev. Daniel Galas officiating. Burial will be in St. Leo Catholic cemetery at Snyder. Military graveside services will be conducted at the cemetery.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend and on Wednesday at the church one hour prior to service. The rosary will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at Moser Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Kidney Foundation.
Mr. Buresh was born Feb. 4, 1930, at Rescue to Joe and Mary (Hladky) Buresh. He moved with his family to a farm near North Bend in 1934. He was a 1947 graduate of North Bend High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from February 1953 to December 1954 and was stationed in Korea.
He married
Agnes Dostal at Tabor, near Howells, on July 24, 1957. Following his discharge from the service, Mr. Buresh farmed in the North Bend area until 1991, when he moved to Omaha for health reasons.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Donald of Lincoln and Jim of Howells; three daughters, Ann (Mrs. Donn) Penke of Kennard, Clara (Mrs. Mitch) Osten of Wayne and Barb (Mrs. Greg) Bonifas of Aurora; nine grandchildren; his father, Joe; two brothers, Joe A. of Columbus and Francis of North Bend; two sisters, Agnes (Mrs. Frank) Humlicek of Linwood and Mary Ann Buresh of North Bend; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one granddaughter.
Marcella Peters
FREMONT -- Marcella A. Peters, 78, Fremont, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, at St. John's Lutheran Church at Hooper. The Rev. Carl Lehmann will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran cemetery at Hooper.
Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church or St. John's Cemetery, both of Hooper.
Mrs. Peters was born on Nov. 14, 1920, to Louis and Albina (Hlavac) Laudenklos in rural Colfax County. She grew up at Dodge and was a graduate of Dodge High School. She taught rural schools from 1940 to 1954.
She married
Wilbert Peters on June 18, 1944, at Hooper.
Following her marriage, she lived at Hooper until moving to Grand Island in 1974. When she lived in Grand Island, she worked at the former Nyster Bakery until retiring in 1982. She moved to Fremont in 1987. She lived at Parkview Nursing Home at Dodge for the past two years.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and Lutheran Womens Missionary League. She is a former member of the Hooper school board and was a librarian at Hooper Elementary School.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gary of Spencer, Iowa, and Randy of Elkhorn; four grandchildren; a brother, George Laudenklos of Dodge; and three sisters, Blanche Lannon of Omaha, Marie (Mrs. Marvin) Bartling of Fremont, Mildred (Mrs. John) Benetti of Clinton, Ind.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Nick, Joe and Donald Laudenklos, and a sister, Margaret Hass.
Camille Townsend
OMAHA -- Camille L. Townsend, 27, of Omaha, formerly of St. Paul, died Friday, March 19, 1999, at her home from a lengthy illness.
Two funeral services are planned. The first will be Monday at 3 p.m. at the Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha. The Rev. Carlos Schneider and Rev. Deanne Lundahl will officiate. Visitation will be at the church at 11:30 a.m. until service time.
The second funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Marks Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Carlos Schneider, Rev. Deanne Lundahl and Rev. Larry Lepper will officiate.
Burial will be in the South Logan cemetery north of St. Paul. Visitation will be at the church at 8:30 a.m. until service time.
"Bill" Sims
TOPEKA -- Willis N. "Bill" Sims, 90, of Topeka, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at a local hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel in Topeka. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday.
Memorials are suggested to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan, in Topeka.
Mr. Sims was born April 4, 1908, in Americus, Kan., to Oliver and Anna (Weaver) Sims. He graduated from Highland Park High School. He worked for Sante Fe Railroad, starting in 1926 doing clerical work. He was promoted in May 1943 to chief of accounting, Department Machine Bureau. He later became chief clerk to the auditor and was promoted in 1968 to assistant vice president of information systems.
During his career with Sante Fe Railroad, Mr. Sims took courses at the Chicago Institute of Electronic Data, University of Kansas extension, University of Southern California and with IBM. He retired in 1973, but was recalled when Santa Fe merged with the Burlington Northern Railroad.
He married
Victoria Oakley on June 27, 1928, in Topeka.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Phyllis Selig of Bella Vista, Ark.; and three granddaughters, Lin Shipley of Lincoln, Susan Bullington of Grand Island and Sarah Jo Selig of Columbus.
Margaret Contillo
Margaret Mae Contillo, 77, of West Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Grand Island, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at the Palm Bay Community Hospital in Palm Bay, Fla.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Grand Island Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
Mrs. Contillo was born Jan. 21, 1922, at Hot Springs, S.D. to Ernest and Margaret (Rice) Niemoth.
She worked as a registered nurse.
She was a member of the Community Methodist Church in Jackson Heights, N.Y., and enjoyed playing Scrabble and cards and cooking.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Contillo of West Melbourne, Fla. and William Contillo of Jackson Heights, N.Y.; and one granddaughter.
Christine Kemper
Christine Kemper, 91, of Grand Island died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at the Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center of Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. The Rev. Delvin Rope will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Stanton cemetery in Stanton. The Rev. Earl Miller will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Kemper was born Aug. 25, 1907, at Wisner to Chris and Anna (Baehr) Stauffer. She was educated in Wisner.
She married
Bernhard T. Kemper on March 17, 1934, in Wisner. The couple lived in Pilger and Stanton before moving to Grand Island in 1943.
Mr. Kemper died in 1972.
She was a homemaker and mother.
Mrs. Kemper lived at the Lebensraum Retirement Home from 1988 to 1994, and then she moved to Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center.
She was a member of the Eastside Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Glen Kemper of Grand Island; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by one son, Leo; one sister; and two brothers.
Gail Kroll
Gail B. Kroll, 82, of Grand Island died Friday, March 19, 1999, at the Bryan-LGH East Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Eric Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 8 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Mr. Kroll was born June 11, 1916 at Scotia to August M. and Edith J. (Cooper) Kroll. He grew up and attended school in Prosser, graduating in 1934.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from November 1942 to December 1944. He married
Nina M. La Bita on December 1, 1945, at Grand Island. They moved to Oregon, and then returned to Nebraska. Mr. Kroll worked for Austin Motors and Bossleman Oil Co. He also worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a machinist, retiring in 1971.
He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks and the United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed working on cars.
Survivors include two daughters, Gale Anne Fuqua of Alda and Susan Johnson Godwin of Hastings; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Kroll of Grand Island and Bernard Kroll of Casper, Wyo.; and two sisters, Lois Filkin of Wood River and Marguerite Kroll of Kenesaw.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina in 1983; two brothers, Peter and Earl Kroll; and one grandson.
