J. Herman Adams, 95, dies Aug. 4 at Gothenburg
J. Herman Adams, 95, of Gothenburg, formerly of Lexington, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Services will be Thursday, Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Rick Rehmert officiating. Burial will be in the Overton Cemetery.
Adams was born on Dec. 18, 1907, near Overton to Joseph H. and Ethel (Lunsford) Adams.
Survivors include: one son, Kenneth (Arline) Adams of Gothenburg; three daughters, Phyllis Hollibaugh of Lexington, Lois Kehl of Lexington and Jeanie (Carl) Elderton of Fort Collins, CO; one sister, Lucille Murray of Chappel; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen in 1995, two brothers, Delbert and Noel, one sister, Viola, two sons-in-law, Dale Hollibaugh and Ray Kehl and one great-grandson, Cody John.

Zella L. Messersmith, 88, of Gothenburg, formerly of Farnam, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Services were held on Monday, Jan. 5, at the United Methodist Church in Farnam, with the Rev. Buck Linton-Hendrick officiating. Burial was at the Farnam Cemetery.
Messersmith was born on Jan. 28, 1915, to John A. and Mabel A. Rose Adkisson, south of Farnam in Frontier County.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Herb in January of 1978; six brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include: a daughter, Shirley (Tom) Vickers of Farnam; a son, Keith (Lea) Messersmith of Farnam; sister, Lula Stapp of Cambridge; seven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

David Lee Geiken, 45, of Denver, CO, formerly of Gothenburg, died on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Denver.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Sharee Johnson officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Geiken, son of Clifford and Doris (Brenner) Geiken, was born on Dec. 9, 1958, at Omaha.
Survivors include: his parents, Clifford and Doris Geiken of Gothenburg; a sister, Carole (Gary) Coates of Parks; two nieces--Jennifer (Darrell) Chancellor of Overton and Elizabeth (Tom) Kehler of Culbertson; great-nephew, Skylar Chancellor of Overton; great-niece, Abigail Chancellor of Overton; friend and caretaker, Adam Jurcisin; an uncle and several cousins.
Scott Anderson
Scott M. Anderson, age 52 of Paxton, Neb., passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 31, 2004 at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, Neb.
He was born April 17, 1952 in North Platte, the son of Dale and Barbara (Coleman) Anderson. Scott grew up and attended schools in Paxton, graduating from the Paxton High School in 1970. Following his graduation from high school Scott attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Scott married Vickie Thompson on Aug. 11, 1973 in Paxton. He graduated from the university in 1974.
Scott owned and operated the Anderson Insurance Agency in Paxton. He served as the village clerk for 25 years. He was the Past President of the Paxton Lions Club, the Paxton Optimist Club and the Paxton Alumni Association. He was also a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1760 and the University of Nebraska Alumni Association.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Paxton and was currently a member of the church council. Scott was the chairman of the Paxton Labor Day Celebration.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie Anderson of Paxton; two sons, Kiffin and wife Karin Anderson of Omaha, Tanner Anderson of Lincoln; his mother, Barbara Anderson of Lake McConaughy; one brother, Larry and wife Jean Anderson of Columbus, Neb.,; one sister, Diane and husband Calvin Dahlkoetter of Grant, Neb.; sister-in-law, Judy and husband Bill Eakins of Paxton, Neb.; brother-in-law, Lendon and wife Leone Thompson of Elsie, Neb.; nephews, Landry and Lindley Thompson, Brett and wife Gwen Eakins, Jess and Kelly Berglund, Jeff and wife Carla Byrnes and Brady Byrnes; niece, Janey Anderson; great-nephew,Mason Byrnes.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Anderson.
Services were held on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004 at the Paxton High School auditorium with Reverend Elwood Hipple of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in the Paxton Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
Gubser Funeral Home of Ogallala was in charge of arrangements.
Lester Hanson
Lester Hanson was born on Oct. 27, 1910 at Inland, Neb. He was the second of four sons born to Charles and Selma Nelson Hanson. He grew up near Juniata, Neb., attending country school and later high school in Hastings, Neb. Les moved to Wallace in the 1930s to help his uncle Charles Nel-son farm southwest of town. He later worked for Byron Phillips who owned the Wallace Oil Company.
Les was married to Muriel Sykes on July 29, 1939 in Ogallala, Neb. They moved to Missouri Valley, Iowa and did construction work for the Phillips family. They lived in different locations until 1944 when they returned to Wallace where Les farmed for Muriel's father and worked construction on the side. In 1947, Les and Muriel purchased the Wallace Lumber Company from the Spencer family. The Hanson family had ownership of the business until 1993 when it was sold. In addition to the lumber yard, Les established Hanson Construction. He and his crew built and remodeled many homes, barns, granaries, and even churches in the surrounding area. He continued to maintain his home with the help of his granddaughter JoDee after Muriel died in 1986.
In 1999 he moved to the Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte, Neb. He died at Centennial Park early Tuesday morning, Aug. 31, 2004. He had reached the age of 93.
Les was always supportive of the Wallace community. He served on the school board, was a member of the I.O.O.F., the United Methodist Church, and the Ogallala Elks Club. Les enjoyed going to rodeos and supported the Wallace Roping Club. In addition to his regular construction crew, Les provided employment opportunity in the summer for several young men. One of the highlights for the Hanson family was the Christmas party they would host at the community hall.
In addition to his parents and wife, Les was preceded in death by his three brothers, Wilbur, Harold and Clarence.
He is survived by one daughter, Jean and her husband John Sanderson of Littleton, Colo.; and one son, Claude and his wife Mary of North Platte; six grandchildren, JoDee and her husband Kent Hild, Johnny and his wife Cheryl Sanderson, Jackie and her husband Bruce Bauer, Tianne and her husband Raymond Morse, Jarod and wife Tina Karre, and Chris Hanson; 10 great-grandchildren and his sister-in-law Ruby Heinrich of Paxton, Neb.; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 3, at the Wallace United Methodist Church with Pastor Jurdan Counts officiating. Music was by Bill Arnett and Donna Hahn. Casket bearers were Gary McConnell, Garry Phelps, Dean Hanson, Joe Heinrich, Paul Hein-rich, and Jim Smith. Burial was in the Wallace Cemetery. A memorial has been established. Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
