Richard Kraning
Richard R. Kraning, 71, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at his home.
Services are pending with Kline Funeral Home.
Thomas West
Thomas L. West, 84, of Grand Island died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before services on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Stuhr Museum or St. Pauls Ministry.
Mr. West was born on Dec. 27, 1914, at Grand Island to George and Minnie (Voss) West. He grew up and was educated at Grand Island.
He married
Doris McLeese on July 3, 1944, at Bellevue, Kan. The couple lived in Grand Island, where he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor.
He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Union Pacific Old-Timers and the Platt-Duetsche Society. He was also a Nebraska football fan.
Survivors include one son, Charles of Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Thoma (Mrs. Fred) Neid of Lincoln; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Eden of La Crescent, Minn.
His wife died in 1980. He also was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Bob, Walt, Herb and Harold; and a sister, Elizabeth Hill.
Arcle Willis
Arcle L. Willis, 72, of 2103 Grand Island Ave. died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in Richland cemetery at Marquette.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Willis was born on Feb. 14, 1926, at Independence, Mo., to Arcle Sr. and Ada (Hixon) Willis. He received his early education at Doniphan, Kan., and graduated from Atkinson, Kan., High School. He moved to Kansas City, Mo., as a young man.
He married
Donna Voorhees on May 28, 1942, at Atchinson, Kan. He entered the U.S. Army on June 6, 1944, and served in the Ranger Battalion. He served all across eastern Europe and was discharged on April 20, 1946.
After his discharge, he settled in Arnold and studied diesel mechanics at technical school in North Platte for two years.
He worked in construction in various communities in Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming. He worked in Iceland for a while as an equipment supervisor for a government construction project. He also worked in Liberia and Nigeria on pipeline equipment for Raymond International.
The family moved to Marquette in 1962, and he owned and operated A.L. Willis Repair, doing general repairs and welding. He came to Grand Island in 1969 and worked at the International Harvester truck shop. For the past 20 years, he was superintendent of the maintenance shop for the city of Grand Island.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Masonic Ashlar Lodge 33 in Grand Island, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lonny of Kokomo, Ind., and Danny of Aurora; one daughter, Deborah (Mrs. Deryl) Nissen of Marquette; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a half sister, Bernice Lee.
Lydia Wilson
Lydia Ann Wilson, 100, of Grand Island died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Russell will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
'Lorraine' Zalewski
Laura "Lorraine" M. Zalewski, 64, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Leo's Catholic Church. The Rev. Jack Rademacher will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. wake service, Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the familyšs choice.
Mrs. Zalewski was born on June 2, 1934, at Viking, Alberta, Canada, to Leo and Rose (Greenwalt) Lonowski. She was educated in the Loup City public schools and then moved to Grand Island.
She married
Max Tylkowski in 1952. She worked at St. Francis Hospital, was a waitress at Dreisbach's and a cook at the Flamingo Lounge, worked at Swift and Monfort and at Novartis Seeds Inc. (Northrup King) during seed corn harvest.
She married
Gerald "Gerry" Zalewski on Nov. 5, 1985, in Las Vegas.
She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, the Elks Club, Platt-Duetsche, Eagles and Saddle Club. She was an active blood donor and had passed the five-gallon mark.
Her hobbies included dancing, travel, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include her husband; five sons, Larry, Mark, Leo and Mike Tylkowski, all of Grand Island, and Roger of Tulsa, Okla.; one stepson, Dave Zalewski of North Platte; one stepdaughter, Deann McKinley of Fort Myers, Fla.; eight grandchildren; five step grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; her mother, of Loup City; one sister, Evelyn Gappa of Grand Island; and one brother, Chester Lonowski of Loup City.
She was preceded in death by one step grandson; her father; and two brothers, Lawrence and Floyd Lonowski.
Leland Cook
GIBBON -- Leland N. Cook, 92, of Gibbon, formerly of Shelton, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Goderson Mortuary in Gibbon. The Rev. Barbara Spangler will officiate. Burial will be in the Shelton Cemetery.
Visitation will be before service time Saturday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Cook was born on Oct. 8, 1906, on a farm near Shelton. He grew up in the Gibbon and Shelton area and graduated from Shelton High School.
He had lived and worked on the family farm all his life. Due to ill health, he moved to the Good Samaritan Center in 1991.
Survivors include several cousins.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Onna Dallmann
BROKEN BOW -- Onna Lee Dallmann, 67, of Broken Bow died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bob Winn will officiate. Burial will be in the Gates Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Kearney Crisis Pregnancy Center or Birthright of Broken Bow.
Mrs. Dallmann was born on Jan. 30, 1932, on a farm near Burchard to John and Goldie (Skidmore) Dougherty. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1949.
She married
Donald Dallmann on July 31, 1977.
She worked for many years as a nurse's aide in Lincoln, Beatrice and Kearney. She also did home care and served as a supervisor and counselor for a homeless women's center in Lincoln.
She was very interested in the defenseless, the unborn and the hurting. She sponsored a child in India for many years and opened her home several times to friends and those in need. She was a counselor and hot line volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center as well as at the Nebraska Right to Life office and Citizens Against Pornography.
Survivors include her daughter, Sheree (Mrs. Tim) Slagle of Broken Bow; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Zelda (Mrs. Ted) Mothershed of Lincoln and Sonja (Mrs. Sherman) Manley of Excelsior Springs, Mo.
