Mary Perry
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Mary Katheryne Nugent Perry, 61, of Springfield, Ill., formerly of Grand Island, died Jan. 23, 1999, at hospice in Springfield, Ill.
Services were on Jan. 27 at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Springfield.
Vancil Funeral Home of Springfield was in charge of arrangements
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Perry was born on Dec. 26, 1937, in Grand Island to Cecil Everette and Katheryne Evelyn (Phillips) Gibbs.
She married
Charles D. Perry on Oct. 29, 1995, in Springfield.
She was an active member of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Springfield and the Mary Marion Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Knoxville, Iowa.
Survivors include four daughters, Medi McCarty of Knoxville, Iowa, Katie Williams of Newton, Iowa, Anita Ridlen, Grimes, Iowa, and Erica Copes of Ankeny, Iowa; nine stepchildren; eight grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; a sister, Deb Schmeckpeper of Bloomfield; and a brother, Glenn Gibbs of Invale.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Clarke; and her former husband, Gene Nugent, in 1992.
Clara M. Parkos
Clara M. Parkos, 80, of Grand Island, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Leo's Catholic Church. Rev. Jack Rademacher will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ord Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church with a 7 p.m. wake service.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Mrs. Parkos was born March 28, 1918 at Burwell to Joseph and Sophia (Kozeal) Bartusiak. She grew up and attended school in Burwell.
She married
Ernest V. Parkos on June 10, 1941 at Sacred Heart Church in Burwell. The couple lived in Holdrege. She helped her husband operate a business. In 1981, the couple retired and spent their winter months in Arizona. They moved to Grand Island in 1991.
She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, and cooking.
Survivors include her husband; daughter, Judy Karnopp of Lincoln; son, Larry Parkos of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren; brother, John Bartusiak of Ogallala; three sisters, Florence Bartusiak of Hemet, Calif., Irene Hovarka of Burwell, Calif., Evelyn Harris of Valentine.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted and Ben Bartusiak; and a sister, Bernice Hovarka.
Lawrence H. Wieck
Lawrence H. Wieck, 84, of Grand Island, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999 at Lakeview Nursing/Rehab Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms. Rev. Karl Ziegler will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran cemetery at Worms.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church in Worms.
Mr. Wieck was born March 5, 1914 in Merrick County to Peter and Wiebke (Hargens) Wieck. He grew up in the Worms area and began his education at District 45 near Worms and continued his education at Zion Parochial School in Worms.
He married
Lucille Helzer on May 17, 1940 at Worms. He was a farmer and stockman on his parent's farm northeast of Worms. The couple retired and moved to Grand Island in 1987.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was an elder. He was a member of the Prairie Creek Township Board, Farmer's Co-op Elevator in Palmer, Palmer Public School Board, District 49, and the A.S.C.S. of Merrick County.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Gary of Grand Island, Alan of Omaha; four grandchildren; sisters, Helen Garbe of Village Lake, Calif., LaVerna May of Yuma, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank, Alfred, Reynold, and Oscar; and three sisters, Emma, Ella, and Hilda.
Hugo Harders
WOOD RIVER -- Hugo Harders, 92, of Wood River, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo. Rev. Glen Keylon will officiate. Burial will be at Westlawn cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo.
Memorials are suggested to the Cairo Quick Response Team.
Mr. Harders was born Feb. 11, 1906 in Hall County to Martin and Margretha (Koenk) Harders. He attended school at District 37. He farmed with his father and brothers. He was recognized as having the first tractors with rubber tires in Hall County.
He married
Clara A. Kroeger on Dec. 18, 1929 in Grand Island. They lived in Hall County where they raised irrigated corn, Hereford cattle, dairy cattle, chickens, and hogs. They also raised ponies and quarter horses.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo and the Hall County Sheriff's Posse. He enjoyed woodworking, making clocks, shelves, and toys. He also enjoyed camping.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis (Mrs. Rodney) Rathman of Wood River; two sons, Rodney of Wood River, Richard of Cairo; brother, Carl of Grand Island; 14 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Emil, John, Julius, and Otto; five sisters, Clara, Hilda, Freida, Edith, and Ella.
Ophelia May Swedlund
HASTINGS -- Ophelia May Swedlund, 93, of Hastings, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings. Pastor David Ritter will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Swedlund was born April 3, 1905 at Natchitoches, La., to Jessie Alonzo and Ella Claudenia (Futrell) Baxley. She worked at the Hastings College cafeteria.
She married
Tilfred J. Swedlund on Aug. 12, 1930 at Shreveport, La. She moved to Hastings in 1943.
She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Wolz of Hastings; sons, Thomas of Hastings, Orville of Hastings; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, three great-grandchildren; a brother and three sisters.
Clifford Miller
Clifford Lee Miller, 90, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Debra Tompsett-Welch will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Miller was born on June 7, 1908, in Lincoln to Bert D. and Fannie (Brown) Miller. He grew up in Grand Island and attended Grand Island Senior High School.
After completing his schooling, he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad.
He married
Jean Elois Snelling on Nov. 6, 1938, in Wahoo. They lived in Central City. Mr. Miller traveled the entire United States with his work, with a large part of his time spent in California during the summers and in Kansas and Nebraska during the rest of the year.
They moved to Grand Island in 1965. Mrs. Miller died in 1988.
Mr. Miller was an avid Cornhusker fan and enjoyed going to the games.
Survivors include four sons, Robert of Vacaville, Calif., Jack of Alma, David of San Diego and Samuel of Grand Island; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
