Chauncey Harb
OMAHA -- Chauncey Harb, 86, of Omaha, formerly of Dannebrog, died of cancer Jan. 5, 1999, at his home.
Services were on Jan. 9 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Omaha. Burial was in Mount Hope cemetery in Omaha.
Mr. Harb was born on Aug. 23, 1912, in Sterling, Colo., to Fred and Clara (Fries) Harb. He grew up on a farm near Dannebrog.
He spoke only Danish when he started country school. He attended high school in Grand Island and business school in Omaha.
He married
Dorys Hill in 1937. They lived in Omaha.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Chauncey Lee; a daughter, Carol (Mrs. Steve) Kattar; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Harb; and a sister, June Stodley.
Harold Barnes
BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- Harold John Barnes, of Broomfield, Colo., formerly of Gothenburg, died Jan. 18, 1999, at St. Anthony's Central Hospital in Denver.
Services were on Jan. 22 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Broomfield. Burial was on Jan. 23 in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Mr. Barnes was an outstanding athlete at Gothenburg High School, was selected for an All-Star football team and held numerous state track records.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis John and Robert Harold Barnes; a daughter, Dorothy Ann Sanko; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Blanche Clark.
Ingeborg Chandler
STUART, Fla. -- Ingeborg Chandler, 72, of Stuart, Fla., died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart.
Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Forest Hill Funeral Home in Palm City, Fla. The Rev. Tom Hartley will officiate.
A native of Germany, she had lived at Stuart for seven years, moving from Lincoln. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Leo of Cincinnati; and a sister, Giesla (Mrs. Peter) Doyle of Germany.
Dwayne Jensen
WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- Dwayne W. Jensen, 82, of West Chester, Pa., formerly of Grand Island, died Jan. 8, 1999, at West Chester.
Services were at Grove Methodist Church in West Chester. The Rev. Robert D. Young officiated. Burial was in West Chester.
Mr. Jensen was born on Aug. 6, 1916, at Dannebrog to Horace V. and Christina Jensen. He grew up on the Hansen Table, southwest of Callaway.
Following his graduation from Grand Island High School, he graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in electrical engineering.
He moved to Pennsylvania to pursue his career.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; five daughters, Marcia, Carol, Karen, Kristen and Ingrid; and four brothers, Hervey of York, Russell of Sun City, Ariz., Gordon of Callaway and Bob of Scottsbluff.
Dorothy Krecklow
Dorothy A. Krecklow, 75, of Grand Island died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday with a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert Harms will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family or the Lutheran Hour Ministries.
Mrs. Krecklow was born on Nov. 11, 1923, at Avoca to George and Valera (Munn) McFadden. She grew up and was educated at Avoca and graduated in 1941 from Avoca High School.
She then furthered her education at Lincoln Business College. She worked as a stenographer for Stephenson's School Supply in Lincoln for several years.
She married
Donald L. Krecklow of Greenwood on May 10, 1952. They moved to Okarche, Okla., where he taught school. They eventually moved to Grand Island in 1972, when Mr. Krecklow's employer, Hornady Manufacturing, relocated from Lincoln. Mrs. Krecklow worked in housekeeping at Lutheran Memorial Hospital until she retired.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and an active member of the Altar Guild, the Lutheran Layman's League and several other organizations at church, where she helped in a number of areas.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters and their spouses, Dianne (Mrs. Jerry) Dickinson and Debra (Mrs. Mike) Smith, both of Grand Island, and Donna (Mrs. Dondi) Shearer of Kearney; two sons and their spouses, Dennis of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Darryl of Grand Island; 22 grandchildren; and a sister, Janis Bauers of Lincoln.
Vera Rima
Vera Rima, 85, of Grand Island died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Rima was born on Oct. 17, 1913, at Taylor to Guy and Elva (Howard) Hyde. She moved as a young child to Grand Island, where she grew up and was educated in the Grand Island public schools.
She worked at Kauffman's Department Store.
She married
A. Clifford Rima on June 8, 1941, at Grand Island. The couple lived in Omaha, where she worked in the ammunition plant. The couple then moved to Fremont before living in Columbus and Norfolk. Mr. Rima died on May 4, 1960.
Mrs. Rima moved back to Grand Island, where she worked at Peter Pan Baking Co., Nash Finch and for 10 years in the customer service department at the First National Bank. She retired in 1980. She lived at Riverside Lodge from 1995 to 1998 before moving to Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was a past deaconess and a member of the Dorcas Circle. She was also a volunteer at the Lutheran Memorial Hospital, a foster grandparent at Newell Elementary School from 1991 to 1994 and a past member of the Rebekah's Lodge in Columbus. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge.
Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer (Mrs. Greg) Long of Grand Island; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Laura Ahrens of Grand Island and Thelma Engel of Enumclaw, Wash.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Clifford Dean; one brother, Glen Hyde; and one sister, Elenora Wyman.
Verla Wickizer
Verla Mae Wickizer, 60, of 604 W. Koenig died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. David Vaught will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Wickizer was born on Dec. 15, 1938, at Tolstoy, S.D. She grew up and was educated in the Aberdeen, S.D., area.
She married
Cornelius Maisch in 1952. They moved to Texas, where Mr. Maisch was stationed in the service.
She married
Bob Wickizer on Aug. 21, 1981, in Benkelman. They moved to Palmer, and she worked at the Grand Island Veterans Home for several years.
Then they moved back to Benkelman, where she worked at the hospital. She returned to Grand Island in 1990 and owned and managed an apartment building. She also did home health care for the state. She raised her grandson, Shawn Kelley.
She was a member of the Christian faith. She enjoyed bingo and her collections of dolls and salt and pepper shakers.
Survivors include two sons, Brian Maisch of Grand Island and Neal Maisch of Colorado; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; her father, Ed Reiger of Aberdeen, S.D.; three sisters, Betty, Beverly and Florence; and a special friend, Jackie Baldwin of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Les Cora Stahl; and her mother.
