Patsy Moffett
KEARNEY -- Patsy M. Moffett, 65, of Kearney died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. The Rev. Barbara Spangler will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery. The casket will be open prior to services on Thursday at the mortuary for viewing. Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon and Shelton is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the families choice.
Miss Moffett was born May 14, 1933, on a farm north of Gibbon to James C. and Matie E. (Ginther) Moffett. She grew up there and graduated from Gibbon High School in 1949. In 1977, she moved to Kearney where she was employed by Baldwin Filters for the next 22 years. She retired in the fall of 1998.
Survivors include five brothers, Carl of Gibbon, Maurice "Jack" of Kenesaw, Leonard of San Diego, Calif., and Bradley and Don of Shelton and five sisters, Dottie Allen of San Diego, Calif., Becky Howard of Sterling, Colo., Maxine Moffett of Gibbon and Susie and Leone Moffett of Kearney.
Bernice Rush
SARGENT -- Bernice B. Rush, 94, of Sargent died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at Goli Medical Center.
Services were Monday at the Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Samm Johnston officiated. Burial was in Mount Hope cemetery at Sargent.
Memorials are suggested to the Sargent United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Rush was born June 18, 1904, at Diller to Fred and Jennie (Renwick) Burch. She attended school in Bellwood and graduated from Weeping Water High School in 1921. She attended Normal Training school then taught in Southbend, Manley and seventh grade at Weeping Water. She moved to Sargent to teach in 1928 and later taught in Taylor for a total of 21 years.
She married
Fred R. Rush on Nov. 30, 1933, in Alliance.
She lived in Sargent at her home until March 1998 when she moved to Goli Medical Center.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sargent, CW PEO Chapter, United Methodist Women and Kensington.
Survivors include one daughter, Corinne Kidder of York; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Wilma Miller of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Mae Rose of Atlantic, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984.
Gretchen Mehring
LITTLETON, Colo. -- Gretchen E. Mehring, 88, of Littleton, Colo., formerly of Grand Island, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999.
Mrs. Mehring was cremated. No services are planned. Drinkwine Mortuary of Littleton, Colo., was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Neal Mehring Scholarship Fund.
Mrs. Mehring was born Dec. 17, 1910, at Dexter, Iowa. She graduated from high school.
On Dec. 29, 1937, she married
Neal E. Mehring in Grand Island. She was a telephone operator for Martin Marietta before her retirement.
She enjoyed floral design and home decorating.
Survivors include two daughters, Julianne Brewer of Aurora, Colo. and Carol Mehring of So. Jordan, Utah; one son, Mike of Sister's, Ore.; and two grandchildren.
Patricia Wicker
WICHITA, Kan. -- Patricia Joyce Wicker, 62, of Wichita, Kan., formerly of York and Grand Island, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Wichita.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York. The Rev. James Divis will officiate. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Grand Island City Cemetery.
A Rosary Service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Metz Chapel in York. Mrs. Wicker was cremated. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Wicker was born March 28, 1936, at York to Frank H. and Leutta (Considine) Gardner. She was formerly an employee of Monfort Meat Packing Plant in Grand Island.
On Nov. 9, 1963, she married
Jack C. Wicker. Mr. Wicker died in 1984.
Survivors include two sons, Bart and Bradley Wicker, both of Wichita, Kan.; a sister, Rita Gardner of Lincoln; and a special aunt, Naida Gardner of Humphrey.
Opal Lee
Opal Ayers Lee, 90, of Grand Island, formerly of Broken Bow, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Tiffany Square.
Private services will be held Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to St. John's Episcopal Church in Broken Bow or the charity of the donor's choice.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lee was born May 27, 1908, in Sabetha, Kan., to Smith and Addie (Keim) Ayers. She graduated from Sabetha High School and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She worked at the Capitol in Lincoln and taught school in Arcadia.
She married
Miles Newton Lee on July 29, 1935, in Ft. Collins, Colo. They made their home in Broken Bow. Following her husband's death in 1967, Mrs. Lee moved to Grand Island to be near her daughter. She lived at Riverside Lodge.
While living in Broken Bow, Mrs. Lee was a member of St. Agnes Guild of St. John's Episcopal Church, a substitute teacher, a Red Cross Gray Lady and a contributor to the Broken Bow High School Foundation. She enjoyed bridge, travel, music, art and ballet.
Survivors include twin daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. John) Albers of Grand Island, and Carolyn (Mrs. J. Thomas) Rosch of Orinda, Calif.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Velma Rose
Velma E. Rose, 78, of Grand Island died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Congregational Church with the Rev. Lonnie Logan officiating. Mrs. Rose will be cremated following the services. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Brunswick cemetery in Brunswick.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made at the family's choice.
Mrs. Rose was born on July 23, 1920, to Alvin and Inez (Jones) Graybiel in Neligh, where she grew up and received her education. She taught music for a year in Johnstown.
On Aug. 3, 1941, she married
Lynn Rose in Neligh. After her husband's death in 1969, Mrs. Rose returned to college at Kearney State College, graduating with honors in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in sociology.
She taught Sunday school, private piano lessons, and played piano and organ for church services and choir for 40 years.
Mrs. Rose moved to Grand Island in 1972. She worked as a social service supervisor for the State of Nebraska Department of Welfare for 17 years before retiring in 1985.
She was a member of the United Congregational Church. She enjoyed playing and teaching piano and organ. She also enjoyed raising flowers and working with people.
Survivors include one son, William Rose of Lincoln; one grandson; and one sister, June Fischer of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Mrs. Rose was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Richard; a brother, Gerald; and a sister, Ardis.
Johanna Stolle
Johanna Stolle, 99, of Grand Island died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at the St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Grand Island City cemetery with the Rev. Richard Urbach officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested at the donor's choice.
Mrs. Stolle was born Feb. 21, 1899, in Hall County to Gustav and Katherine (Schroeder) Roby. She attended rural School District 3.
On April 20, 1921, she married
John J. Stolle in Grand Island.
The couple farmed south of Grand Island until 1941. They then moved into Grand Island and Mrs. Stolle was employed by Buttercrust Bakery, which later became Jake's Bake Shop.
Mrs. Stolle was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, the Platt-Duetsche and Hall County Mutual.
Survivors include two daughters, Mildred (Mrs. Don) Arent of Grand Island, Roberta (Mrs. Ted) Eunson of Sun City, Calif.; one son, Raymond Stolle of Cambridge, Ind.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Stolle was preceded in death by her husband; one son, LeRoy; three brothers and four sisters.
