LYNCH - Services for Calvin Spencer, 72, of Lynch are pending at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Lynch. Mr. Spencer died Monday, June 5, 2006, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Louis Stecher
WEST POINT - Services for Louis Stecher, 68, West Point, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial and military honors at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Wednesday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Stokely Funeral Home.
She died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at the West Point Living Center.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Janet Vanderheiden
LAUREL - Services for Janet Vanderheiden, 49, Laurel, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church here with burial in the Laurel Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday with a 7 p.m. vigil at the church. Schumacher-Hasemann Funeral Home is in charge.
She died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at Faith Regional Health Services.
Wilhelm Faubel
Services for Wilhelm “Billy” Faubel, 80, of Norfolk will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Home for Funerals with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Faubel died Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Faith Regional Health Services.
Billy was born on Dec. 18, 1925, in Norfolk, the son of William and Freda (Hans) Faubel. He attended school in Norfolk and then worked as a brakeman for the railroad until he retired in 1988.
He is survived by three brothers, Donald Faubel of Fremont, Duane Faubel of Lincoln and Robert Faubel of Fountain Valley, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Chris Remmers
Chris M. Remmers, 74, of Filley died at his home on Monday, June 5, 2006.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Filley American Lutheran Church with burial in the Filley Cemetery and graveside honors by Fisher Post 367 of the American Legion.
A family prayer service will be at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Visitation will be at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice until 9 p.m. Wednesday and at the church Thursday one hour preceding the service.
A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with Lois Lampe, Marian Melcher and Toby Siefkes in charge.
He was born June 19, 1931, at Beatrice, baptized on July 5, 1931, and confirmed on April 1, 1945, at the Filley American Lutheran Church. He graduated from Filley High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954 during the Korean War.
He married Rosetta Busboom on May 23, 1954, at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell, and they lived and farmed on the family farm near Filley. He was a lifelong member of the Filley American Lutheran Church, where he served as a past church councilman and former Sunday school superintendent.
He served on the Filley School Board and Filley Township Board. He was a past member of the Filley Volunteer Firemen and Hamhocks Incorporated, served as a board member of the Gage County Agriculture Society and was a former leader for the Saddle Up 4-H Club. He was a member of Fisher Post 367 of the American Legion of Virginia and a life-long member of Geddes-Thober Post 1077 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Beatrice.
He enjoyed farming with his son, Dennis, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He especially enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He always looked forward to the early morning coffee hour with his neighbors and friends in Filley.
Survivors include his wife, Rosetta of Filley; one son, Dennis and wife Doreen of Filley; one daughter, Susan Thompson and husband Galen of Norfolk; five grandchildren, Stacy Lewandowski and husband Ron of Beatrice, Jill Navrkal and husband Zach of Fremont, Lindsey Remmers of Rock Hill, S.C., Neeley Remmers of Hays, Kan., and Carley Remmers of Filley; three great-grandchildren, Grant and Lucas Lewandowski and Madelyn Rose Navrkal; one brother, John Remmers and wife Clara of Beatrice; one brother-in-law, Thees Busboom and wife Irene of Pickrell; one sister-in-law, Anita Nickeson and husband Keith of Lincoln; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Diedrich and Margaretha (Mabel) Stevens Remmers; an infant daughter, Faye Christine; and one sister, Verna Bauman.
Pastor Melody Brindel will officiate.
Harlin Anderson
CONCORD - Services for Harlin Anderson, 74, Concord, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Concordia Lutheran Church here with burial in the Concord Cemetery and military rites. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne.
He died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Providence Medical Center. Schumacher-Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne is in charge of arrangements.
Harlin Verdel Anderson was born Aug. 25, 1931, on a farm near Concord to Arthur T. and Laura (Carlson) Anderson. He attended rural school near Concord and graduated from Concord High School in 1948. Harlin served with the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 in Korea.
Harlin married Verlyn Isom on Dec. 4, 1960, at Allen. The couple farmed south of Concord in Dixon County. Harlin was a life-long member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where he served on various committees, Laurel VFW Post 4504, American Legion Post 54, Concord Rural Fire Department, Providence Medical Center Capital Campaign and Logan Township clerk. Harlin was very active with the Dixon County Fair and served as hog superintendent for several years.
Harlin is survived by his wife, Verlyn; one son, Steve (Peg) Anderson of Concord; two daughters, Kay (Todd) Anderson of Lincoln and Dana (Aleks) Stajkovic’ of Madison, Wis.; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Delores (LeRoy) Koch of Concord and Fern (Larry) Test of Wayne; five brothers, Alvin (Janet) Anderson of Wayne, Clayton (Zelma) Anderson of Wausa, Kenneth (Karen) Anderson of Allen, Curtis (Maureen) Anderson of Omaha and Earl (Beverly) Anderson of Rapid City, S.D.; mother-in-law, Ella Isom of Wakefield; sister-in-law, Jeannine Anderson of Wayne; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Harlin was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Wallace.
Ruth Cernousek
VERDIGRE - Services for Ruth Cernousek, 86, of Verdigre will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Verdigre with burial in the Jelen Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Verdigre.
She died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
Ruth Cernousek, daughter of Anton Jr. and Josephine (Somour) Kriz, was born Nov. 28, 1919, at Sparta. She grew up in the Center area and attended country school and Center High School.
On June 16, 1941, she was married to Alfred Cernousek Sr. at Neligh. Three children were born to them, Gloria Kay, Alfred Jr. and Renee’ Faye. After their marriage they lived west of Verdigre and then retired to Verdigre.
Ruth was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Pleasant Valley Ladies Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Gloria, and her husband, Glen Volquardsen of Orchard; and her son, Alfred Jr., and his wife, Berniece Cernousek of Kearney; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a niece, Phyllis Latzel.
She was preceded in death by her husband in April 2000, a daughter in infancy and one brother, George Kriz.
Robert Folkers
HARTINGTON - Services for Robert “Bob” Folkers, 58, of Hartington will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 2 p.m. and family present 6-8 p.m., at Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
He died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at the Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Robert Charles Folkers was born on April 7, 1948, to Lowell R. and Edna V. (Munds) Folkers in Yankton, S.D. He grew up in Hartington and graduated from Hartington High School in 1966.
After high school, he moved to Marshall, Minn., where he managed a shoe store until 1972. He then moved to Hartington and began working at Kolberg Manufacturing in Yankton until 1996. Bob began working at the Hartington cheese plant in 1996 until its closing. Bob was presently working at Lewis and Clark Hydraulics in Yankton, where he began in 2004.
Bob was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He loved to golf, enjoyed woodworking and working with his hands. He enjoyed attending his kids’ activities.
Bob is survived by his wife, Linda of Hartington; two children, son Trent Folkers of Hartington and daughter Stacie Folkers of Norfolk; dog, Coco; three brothers and spouses, Larry and Glenda Folkers of Hartington, Ron and Karen Folkers of Columbus and Alan and Connie Folkers of Lincoln; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Bob in death were his parents and his brother, Curt.
Pallbearers will be Randy Folkers, Jeff Folkers, Jason Folkers, Larry Huss, Dan Huss and Dave Huss. The Rev. John Pietramale will officiate.
Darol Frew
AINSWORTH - Services for Darol G. Frew, 89, of Norden will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the New Apostolic Church in Ainsworth with burial in Norden West Cemetery. Visitation will be at Hoch Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Thursday.
He died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Lorna Monson
MEADOW GROVE - Services for Lorna Monson, 66, of Norfolk will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Meadow Grove with burial in McCoy Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden.
She died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Sunrise Country Manor in Milford.
Lorna Lea Monson, daughter of Homer and Martha (Brown) Nelson, was born March 28, 1940, at Oakdale. She attended District 21 rural school and graduated form Meadow Grove High School in 1957. She completed one year of college at Northeast Community College in Norfolk.
She was married to Bob Monson in 1958 at Meadow Grove. Lorna worked at the Westside Tavern in Tilden for 16 years before being employed by the law firm of Copple, Rocky, and Stafford in Norfolk for 13 years. She retired in 2004 and moved to Lincoln in 2006. She was a past board member of the Norfolk Support Group for Widowed and Divorced.
Survivors include her children, Pat and her husband, Fred Whitebread of Seward, and Mark Monson of Lincoln; three grandchildren, Chadd Whitebread, Cameron Monson and Chasity Rutjens; and one brother, Larry Linse of Tilden.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Norman Nelson.
