Dr. Bobby Abraham
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. -- Dr. Bobby Abraham, 56, of Detroit Lakes, Minn., formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, as the result of a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 29 near Wahpeton, N.D.
Services for Dr. Abraham will be at a later date.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, Minn.
Memorials are suggested.
More details will be released when the service is set.
Richard Gelwick
INKOM, Idaho -- Dr. Richard Gruver Gelwick, 74, of Inkom, Idaho, formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at his daughter's home in Inkom.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mark's Methodist Church in Lincoln. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. at Sunrise cemetery in Wahoo.
Pruss Funeral Home of Wahoo is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gelwick was born on Feb. 18, 1924, in Hastings to Arthur B. and Alberta (Gruver) Gelwick. He grew up in Falls City and graduating from high school in 1942.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 16th F.A. Obsn-Bn, 8th Army Corps in Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.
He married
Virginia Eileen White on Nov. 5, 1951. He graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in 1953. They then lived in Sutton, where he practiced general medicine for six years.
He then served a three-year internal medicine residency under the Ohio State Medical School program. He served as an internist at Veterans Administration hospitals in Dayton, Ohio; Grand Island; and Lincoln for 24 years.
He was a member of the Nebraska Medical Association, American Legion Post 3, Elks Club 80 and St. Mark's Methodist Church, all in Lincoln.
He enjoyed bowling, bird-watching, bridge, the theater and especially liked gardening and flowers.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Joan Iannacone of Inkom, Janet Alexander of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Aimee Williams of Eugene, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert of Middletown, Ohio, and Willard of Beverly, Mass.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Gelwick.
Emma Meyer
SALT LAKE CITY -- Emma L. Meyer, 87, of Salt Lake City, formerly of Worms, died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church in Salt Lake City.
Mrs. Meyer was born on June 11, 1911, at Steger, Ill., to the Rev. and Mrs. U.H. Meyer. The family moved to Hampton in 1916 and to Oxford in 1922. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1929 and was chief telephone operator there. The family moved to Worms in 1933.
She married
Elmer Meyer of Worms on Dec. 25, 1936, in Salt Lake City.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Roger of West Jordan, Utah; two daughters, Margaret Campbell of Saratoga, Calif., and Pauline Brown of Greenville, S.C.; five grandchildren; five step grandchildren; one brother, W.A. Meyer of Austin, Texas; and six sisters, Agnes Meyer of St. Paul, Louise Seim of Portland, Ore., Helen Miller of Neenah, Wis., Olga Seim of Grand Island, Ruth Seim of Hemet, Calif., and Selma Harris of Ogden, Utah.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
Roger Wall
DOWNS, Kan. -- Roger L. Wall, 65, of Downs, Kan., formerly of Hampton, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Hampton. The Rev. Loren Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Church cemetery at Hampton.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Downs Playground Fund and the Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund in Hampton.
Domoney Funeral Home of Downs, Kan., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wall was born on July 12, 1933, at Hampton. He grew up in Hampton and attended Hampton schools. He moved to York in 1957 and worked for the York Packing Co. until moving to Downs, Kan., in 1989. He worked as bookkeeper for Pork Packers International in Downs until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Marcena Wall; two sons, Russell of Omaha and Ron of Waverly; one stepson, Joe McChesney of Florissant, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Patty Gengler of Denver and Paula Voss of Fairbanks, Alaska; one grandson; four step granddaughters; one sister, Doris Klute of Hampton; and three brothers, Donald Wall of Tucson, Ariz., and Edgar and Dale Wall, both of Hampton.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Tedd Whipple
Tedd V. Whipple, 46, of 3518 S. Locust died of bone cancer Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Mr. Whipple was cremated. There will be no services or visitation.
Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Those wishing to pay their respects to the family may do so from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at Heartland Antique Mall in Grand Island.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Whipple was born on July 10, 1952, in Hastings to Ernest C. and Betty June (Valentine) Whipple. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1970 and later from Hastings College.
He was associated with Heartland Antique Mall in Grand Island. He was a self-employed antique dealer and past president of the Central Nebraska Antique Dealers. He had lived in Grand Island for 15 years.
Survivors include his parents, of Grand Island; two sisters, Teri (Mrs. Tam) Nguyen of Hastings and Karen Roehm of Gunnison, Colo.; and his grandmother, Mildred Jansen of Gloversville, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenny and Denny Berding; and three grandparents.
Michael Williams
Michael R. Williams, 47, of Grand Island died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.
There will be no services. Mr. Williams was cremated. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery in Trumbull.
Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on June 18, 1951, in Lincoln to Harvey Lee and Eva Rose (Kreider) Williams.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island.
Survivors include his mother, of Orange, Texas; two sisters, Sharon Williams of Orange, Texas, and Sandra Zook of Plano, Texas; and one brother, James Williams of Lufkin, Texas.
Vera Baker
ST. EDWARD -- Vera Margaret Baker, 86, of St. Edward died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward with the Rev. Mike McInnis officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in St. Edward.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Mrs. Baker was born on Feb. 5, 1912, on a farm northeast of St. Edward to Clair and Lucy (Stevens) Condreay. She attended District 15 School south of St. Edward and graduated from St. Edward High School.
She married
Wayne W. Baker on Nov. 25, 1930, at Sidney, Iowa. She spent her entire life in the St. Edward area.
She enjoyed outdoor life, gardening, flowers, fishing and cooking for her family.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Larry of St. Edward; one daughter, Lucy (Mrs. Dale) Cooper of David City; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marge (Mrs. Bud) Grape of Boone.
