Alice Coffey
ST. EDWARD -- Alice Martha Coffey, 78, of St. Edward died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward's Catholic Church in St. Edward. The Rev. Edward Gill will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Mrs. Coffey was born on Feb. 11, 1920, in Humphrey to Conrad and Margaret (Holescher) Labenz. She attended school in Platte Center and various other locations up until the eighth grade. Following her education, she worked at the Naval Ammunition Plant in Hastings.
She married
Harold H. Coffey on Nov. 27, 1945, at St. Edward's Catholic Church. They lived in Denver until 1947, when they moved to Pueblo, Colo. She worked in sales at Kresses in Pueblo for four years. They moved to Salinas, Calif., in 1962, and she worked as a saleswoman at Woolworth's for 22 years. The couple moved back to St. Edward to retire in 1984. She entered the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center on Oct. 21, 1998.
She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband; two sisters, Mary Ann Greig of Burns, Ore., and Florine (Mrs. Dick) Iverson of Clay Center; and two brothers, Ralph Labenz of St. Edward and Jerry Labenz of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Irvin, Mark and Francis.
Ida Coleman
TAYLOR -- Ida F. Coleman, 88, of Taylor died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate.
Burial will be in the Kent cemetery east of Taylor.
Memorials are suggested at the family's choice.
Mrs. Coleman was born on Jan. 2, 1910, at Badwater, Wyo., to Ruben and Eliza (Hooper) Lewis. They moved to Loup County, where she attended country school.
She married
Albert E. Coleman on April 7, 1929, in Loup County. They lived and farmed in the Loup County area. They moved into Taylor in 1949. Mr. Coleman died in 1956. Mrs. Coleman then lived in Denver and North Platte before moving back to Taylor. She nursed for 45 years in the local hospitals.
She was a member of the Taylor Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Clever Clique Club.
Survivors include four sons, Elton Coleman of North Platte, Chet Coleman of Vancouver, Wash., Dick Coleman of Wyoming and Rex Coleman of Killeen, Texas; one daughter, Alice Tracy of Taylor; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Hank Lewis of Casper, Wyo.
She was preceded in death by one grandchild; one sister, Ruby; and three brothers, Paul, Bill and Osce.
Earl Killinger
WOLBACH -- Earl J. Killinger, 86, of Wolbach died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach. The Rev. Marsha Jark-Swain will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery in Wolbach.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
William Halte Sr.
SCOTTSBLUFF -- William F. Halte Sr., 80, of Scottsbluff died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. George Wheat will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Halte was born on Aug. 17, 1918, at Prosser to George and Ina Mae (Browning) Halte. He grew up and was educated at Prosser.
He married
Ruby Romine on July 12, 1944, at Marshall, Mich.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1943, served in World War II and was discharged in 1945. He also served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 15 years and later worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. He retired after working there for 10 years. He moved to Scottsbluff in 1996.
He was a member of Eagles Aerie 378 of Grand Island.
Survivors include three sons, David of Alda, William F. of Scottsbluff and George of Broomfield, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford Halte of Lafayette, Colo., and Duane Halte of Prosser; and one sister, Mary Blue of Kent, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, James; five brothers, George, Homer, Jerry, Elmer and Harold; and a sister, Clara Plummer.
Julie Sherman
HAYES SPRING -- Julie L. Sherman, 34, of Hayes Springs, formerly of Ravenna, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, in an automobile accident three miles east of Thedford.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Mark Cadenbach will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
Memorials are suggested to her sons' education fund.
Mrs. Sherman was born on May 24, 1964, at North Platte to Ellis and Nedra (Wickizer) Wilkinson. She graduated from Ravenna High School.
She married
Dean Sherman on June 5, 1981. The couple lived west of Rockville. She worked for the Principal Financial Group in Grand Island.
She moved to Hayes Springs in 1996. She worked for Dayco Manufacturing in Alliance.
Survivors include two sons, Bryan Sherman and Clinton "C.J." Sherman, both of Rockville; her parents, of Ravenna; three brothers, Jim Wilkinson of Ravenna, John Wilkinson of Aurora and Jess Wilkinson of Gibbon; two sisters, Vicki Wilkinson of Grand Island and Christine Bruning of Ravenna; and a special friend, Boyd Holtmeier of Hayes Springs.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Howard Youngs
OMAHA -- Howard W. Youngs, 82, of Omaha, formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Steve Warriner will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.
Mr. Youngs was born on March 19, 1916, at Grand Island to Walter Amos and Ella (McIntosh) Youngs. He grew up in Grand Island and attended Lincoln Elementary School. He worked at planting trees and road work at the Civilian Conservation Corps camp for five years in the mid-1930s. Then he worked at Fairmont Creamery, where he met his wife.
He married
Catherine Pokorney on Dec. 8, 1941, at Bartlett. The couple lived in Grand Island, where he worked for Fairmont Creamery until 1953. They then bought the tavern in Gibbon, where they lived for a year before moving to Fort Worth, Texas, where they lived for five years. He worked in a factory making fiber-glass boats, for dairy producers and on power lines. They moved to Omaha, where he worked for Armor and Wilson packing houses until 1978. He then worked as a security guard until his retirement in 1996.
He was a past member of the Eagles Club. He enjoyed working on cars, electrical work and bingo.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carol (Mrs. Kenneth) Schleichardt and Linda (Mrs. Eugene) Lowther, both of Omaha; two sons, Gerald "Gary" and Robert, both of Omaha; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Iva (Mrs. Anton) Tesmer of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jerald; two brothers, LeRoy and Andrew; and two sisters, Myrtle Cochran and Edna Still.
James Frick
PORT MANSFIELD, Texas -- James L. "Jim" Frick, 52, of Port Mansfield, Texas, died Oct. 14, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Frick was cremated and the ashes committed to the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday.
Mr. Frick was born on May 5, 1946, at Hillsboro, Texas, to Fred and Ruth (Sinner) Frick. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1964 and attended McCook Junior College. He volunteered for the U.S. Navy from 1965 through 1969 and served in Vietnam. He was a carpenter and contractor and built many homes in the Port Mansfield area.
Survivors include his mother, of Grand Island; a son, Freddie Frick of Webster, Texas; a daughter, Amy Frick of Kilgore, Texas; and two sisters, Marilyn (Mrs. Domenick) Calbi of Denver and Joyce (Mrs. Clarence) Stoner of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his father.
