Ruby James
Lincoln -- Ruby A. James, 83, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at the Haven House in Wahoo.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in Cedarview cemetery at Doniphan.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Haven House.
Mrs. James was born on July 30, 1915, at Grand Island to Jacob and Mary (Harshfield) Beekman. She grew up and was educated in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School.
She married
Orlando "Cap" James on June 2, 1937, at Hastings. The couple lived in Grand Island. Mrs. James was a homemaker and mother. She also was a production worker, producing serum, and worked with small animals for Norden Labs.
She worked in Grand Island for 26 years and in Lincoln for four years. She also worked in the kitchen for the Norris school district in Firth for 17 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol (Mrs. David) Prokesh of Wahoo and Cynthia (Mrs. Arvin) Huenink of Lincoln; one son, Melvin James of Olympia, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice James of Wolbach; and two brothers, Merl Beekman of Hotchkiss, Colo., and Willis Beekman of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and one sister.
Dorothy Lentz
NORTON, Kan. -- Dorothy Lentz, 70, of Norton, Kan., formerly of Harvard and Stockham, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at the Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin, Kan.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Enfield Funeral Home in Norton. Burial will be in Olive Branch cemetery at Kensington, Kan.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Foundation.
Mrs. Lentz was born on Aug. 16, 1928, at Harvard to John and Mary (Roth) Feurstein. She grew up in Harvard and attended schools in Stockham.
She married
Kenneth Dean Lentz on Aug. 18, 1946, in Kensington, Kan. They lived in Costa Mesa, Orange and San Jose, Calif., before they retired and moved to Norton, Kan. Mr. Lentz died on July 18, 1981.
Mrs. Lentz had been a member of the Community Church in Harvard and the Harbor Baptist Church in Costa Mesa.
Survivors include three sons, Ralph of San Jose, Calif., Rex "Shorty" of Almena, Kan., and John of McClery, Wash.; two daughters, Sandy (Mrs. Woody) Woodruff of Carlsbad, Calif., and Debbie (Mrs. Frank) Sherman of Huntington Beach, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Judy Carlson of Columbus and Arlene VanWormer of Aurora; and a special friend, Floyd Edgett of Oberlin, Kan.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Virgil Feurstein.
Blaine Warren
WAKEENEY, Kan. -- Blaine Woodrow Warren, 81, of WaKeeney, Kan., died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in WaKeeney. The Rev. Delbert Stanton will officiate. Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney.
Memorials are suggested to the church roof fund.
Mr. Warren was born on Sept. 2, 1917, on the family farm near the Olive Hill community in Jewell County, Kan., to James Blaine and Ada (Bacon) Warren. He graduated in 1936 from Superior High School.
He married
Helen Emma Kluge on May 20, 1938, at Superior. They moved from the Olive Hill community to WaKeeney in January 1959.
He served as a U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service technician in the Trego and Gove County, Kan., area. He retired in 1979.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in WaKeeney.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Woodrow Blaine Warren of WaKeeney; three daughters, Norma Nunnenkamp of Hillsboro, Ore., and Wanda Mai and Nancy Arnold, both of WaKeeney; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Neil Warren of Lindsborg, Kan.; and three sisters, Irene Howell of Burr Oak, Kan., Joyce Pritts of Guide Rock and Phyllis Lange of Mankato, Kan.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Clifford Warren; and an infant sister, Wanda Lee Warren.
Caroline Zwelling
SALINA, Kan. -- Caroline Faye Zwelling, 64, of Salina, Kan., formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at her home following a long bout with cancer.
Memorial services were on Saturday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Salina. The Rev. Leroy H. Pralle will officiate. Private family inurnment will be on Tuesday at Fort McPherson National Cemetery. The Rev. H.B. Schutte of Grand Island will officiate.
Mrs. Zwelling was born on Aug. 29, 1934, near Palmer to George H. and Alma W. (Hake) Kamper. She attended Trinity Lutheran School and Grand Island Senior High.
She married
Ronald E. Zwelling on Feb. 19, 1955, in Yuma, Ariz. The couple lived in San Diego until Mr. Zwelling's discharge from the U.S. Navy. They lived at North Platte, Ogallala, Lincoln and Sidney before moving to Kansas.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Robert E. of Edgewater, Md.; three daughters, Karen (Mrs. Richard) Luvender of Colby, Kan., Linda (Mrs. Randy) Doke of Wray, Colo., and Janet (Mrs. Roger) Jensen of St. Francis, Kan.; six grandchildren; her mother, of Grand Island; and four sisters, Maxine (Mrs. Jay) Williams and Grace (Mrs. Herbert B.) Schutte, both of Grand Island, Jeannine Shafer of North Platte and Phyllis Gates of Mesa, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her father; her brother, George; and one sister, Betty Morgan.
Joseph Haschke
Joseph B. Haschke, 55, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, at the St. Francis Skilled Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Leo's Catholic Church. The Rev. John R. Rademacher will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. and a rosary at 7 p.m., Friday at Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Haschke was born on July 6, 1943, at Cedar Rapids to Bernard J. and Fern (Homan) Haschke. He was educated at District 28 School in Boone County and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1961.
He worked in Omaha for some time before entering the U.S. Army in 1965. He served in Germany until 1967. After his discharge, he began working for New Holland in February 1967.
He married
Gloria A. Beerman on Jan. 24, 1970, at Omaha. They lived in Grand Island, and he worked for New Holland at the time of his death. He had worked for the company for 31 years.
He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the American Legion and the Saddle Club. He enjoyed his garden and working in his garage.
Survivors include his wife; one son, David J. Haschke of Grand Island; one daughter, Kathryn A. (Mrs. Ryan) Jelinek of Grand Island; his parents; two brothers, Paul L. Haschke of Cedar Rapids and Mark W. Haschke of Spalding; and five sisters, Helen Jean (Mrs. Charles) Rouse of Central City, Margaret Ann (Mrs. Robert) Fischer of Kingwood, Texas, Delores M. (Mrs. Roger) Bailey of Tekamah, Rita R. (Mrs. Barry) Granden of Kimberling City, Mo., and Susan K. (Mrs. Jerold) Douthit of Berthoud, Colo.

Tana M. Krauss, 49, of 667 E. Ashton died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Eva J. Smith, 80, of Grand Island died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at her home.

BURWELL -- Alice Hulinsky, 79, of Burwell died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Thelma Whitefoot
BOELUS -- Thelma Whitefoot, 84, of Boelus died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at Fort Smith, Ark.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Boelus. The Rev. Alan Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Souleville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Boelus emergency medical technicians.

Mrs. Whitefoot was born on Dec. 17, 1913, at Cairo to Levi and Gertrude (Rhine) Hedglin.
She married
Herbert Whitefoot on Oct. 22, 1934, at St. Paul. The couple lived in Boelus, Cairo and Grand Island before retiring to Fort Smith, Ark. After the death of her husband, she moved back to Boelus.
Mrs. Whitefoot was a member of the Boelus United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ilene (Mrs. Lyle) Russell of Fort Smith, Ark., and Donna (Mrs. Leonard) Pritschau of Ravenna; and nine grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, one grandson, five brothers and two sisters.
