John Wiese
FAIRFIELD -- John D. Wiese, 45, of Fairfield died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at the St. Francis Memorial Health Center Skilled Care Unit in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Wiese was born on March 16, 1953, in Grand Island to Jack and Bea (Kensinger) Wiese. He grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Northwest High School in 1971. He attended South Dakota State University in Brookings.
He worked for a cattle embryo transplant company in Alda for a time before moving to Fairfield, where he worked for Kissinger Cattle Co. for 10 years. He then worked as a cattle manager for the University of Nebraska Animal Research Center at Clay Center for nine years until failing health caused him to quit.
He was a member of Duck's Unlimited, the National Rifle Association, Fairfield American Legion and many conservation and cattle associations. He was involved in the development of National Wetlands and Management in Clay County. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his parents, of Grand Island; one sister, Wendy (Mrs. Craig) Denoyer of Grand Island; and his paternal grandmother, Dora Wiese of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and his paternal grandfather.
Cathryn Schachta
DENVER -- Cathryn D. Schachta, 80, of Denver, formerly of St. Paul, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Laura A. Bartels will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.
There will be no visitation. Mrs. Schachta was cremated. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Schachta was born on Nov. 15, 1917, at Burwell to Charles F. and Katie (Pimpara) Mitchell. The family lived in the Burwell area and later moved to a farm near Elba. She was a 1936 Elba High School graduate. She then attended St. Paul Business College and later worked at the Agriculture Conservation office in St. Paul.
She married
Gabriel C. Schachta on Oct. 15, 1940, at Napoleon, Ohio. The couple lived in Detroit for the first two years of their marriage. They then moved to St. Paul and farmed there until 1948, when they moved to a farm near Schuyler. The family moved to a farm northwest of St. Paul in 1958.
Mrs. Schachta was a leader with the Jolly Cowhands 4-H Club, a member of an extension club and worked in the office at the Howard County Fair.
Mr. Schachta died on Sept. 19, 1976. Shortly after his death, Mrs. Schachta moved to Denver. There she was a member of a bridge club and was social chairwoman at Heather Gardens, where she lived. She was also an expert seamstress and did alterations.
Survivors include two daughters, Wynonna (Mrs. Gene) Haisch of Seattle and Linda (Mrs. John) Gilles of Denver; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Evelyn (Mrs. William) Svoboda of Palmer and Vivian Wagner of Wolbach
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Ivan Mitchell; and one sister, Anna Ogaard.
Leo Boehl
Leo J. Boehl, 45, of Grand Island died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 8 p.m., at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Leo J. Boehl was born May 17, 1953, in Grand Island to Arthur and Rose Agnes (Hughes) Boehl. He was raised in Grand Island, where he graduated from high school.
He was employed at the family business, Key Liquor, until it closed in 1988. He was active in musical groups, playing in the surrounding area. Boehl was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
Survivors include his mother, Rose Agnes Boehl of Grand Island; a sister, Mary Ann Schuster of Cornelius, Ore.; and a brother, William A. Boehl of Ypsilanti, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Rose Ann Pfeiffer-Wodrich.
Clara McCann
Clara H. McCann, 88, of Grand Island died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Bonnie L. Carlson
CENTRAL CITY -- Bonnie L. Carlson, 70, of Central City died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Viola Danielson
AURORA -- Viola Danielson, 94, of Aurora died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Dr. Joe Scahill will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Danielson was born July 5, 1904, in Loup City to Charles and Nina (Monroe) Guilford. She graduated from Marquette High School in 1922. She taught in the Marquette area for seven years.
She married
Joseph Danielson on Sept. 12, 1930, in Mankato, Kan. They farmed north of Aurora for 13 years before moving to a farm northwest of Aurora in 1946. In 1960, they retired and moved to Aurora. She was employed at Hamilton Manor for seven years.
She was a member of the United Brethren Church and the United Methodist Church, Dorcas Circle and Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Deryl of Phillips; a daughter, Lois (Mrs. Gene) Friesen of Waverly; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Joan Moore; three brothers; a sister; three infant siblings; and a great-grandson.
Melania Kubas
SILVER CREEK -- Melania "Mollie" Kubas, 94, of Silver Creek died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at Litzenberg Memorial Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. The Rev. David Korth will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. Monday at the church. A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Visitation will also be from 9:30 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Kubas was born April 9, 1904, in Pilsno to John and Katherine (Kontor) Lisko. She attended school at District 39 in Polk County.
She married
Charles Kubas on Sept. 1, 1931, in Pilsno. The couple lived in Silver Creek.
She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
Survivors include a son, Marion, of Silver Creek; and three sisters, Jean (Mrs. Tony) Savage of Central City, Valeria Smolenski of Osceola, and Regina (Mrs. Chloris) Sutko of Nevada City, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers and two sisters.
Margaret Morgan
FULLERTON -- Margaret H. Morgan, 47, of Fullerton died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at her home.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peters Catholic Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Don Cleary will officiate. Burial will be at the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a scripture reading at 7:30 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Home Health Hospice in Grand Island.
Mrs. Morgan was born May 9, 1951, in Lexington, Ky., to John D. and Mary Clare (Howard) Toomey Sr. She attended Trinity High in River Forest, Ill., and Creighton University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in 1973.
She married
John Morgan on May 26, 1973, in River Forest. They lived in Fullerton. She was employed at the treasurer's office in Kearney for several years and managed Woodland Park Apartments and the swimming pool in Fullerton. She was most recently employed at First National Insurance Agency in Fullerton.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, St. Ann's Altar Society, Friends of the Library, Park Board, and St. Peter's finance committee.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mary Claire of Lincoln and Julie of Fullerton; mother, Mary Clare Tommey of River Forest, Ill.; a brother, John D. Tommey Jr. of Oak Park, Ill.; five sisters, Marianne (Mrs. Ken) Beausoleil of Denver, Jeanne (Mrs. Michael) Devine of Willowbrook, Ill., Norine Toomey of Mahwah, N.J., Mary Clare Toomey of Chicago and Julianne (Mrs. Terry) Nash of LaGrange, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her father, John D. Toomey Sr.
