Louie Lubash
ASHTON -- Louie J. Lubash, 83, of Ashton died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton. The Rev. Larry Coulter will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service, Sunday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lubash was born on Nov. 11, 1914, on a farm south of Ashton to Joseph and Annie (Rochowicz) Lubash. He attended Sherman County District 12 School.
Upon completing his education, he farmed with his father. After his father's death, he and his mother moved into Ashton in 1978. He then worked for several years at Loup City Livestock. He also was a groundskeeper for St. Francis Catholic Church and a caretaker for St. Francis Catholic cemetery for many years.
He was an avid Nebraska football fan and a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Wanda Stenka of Grand Island and Evelyn Kosmicki of St. Paul.
Dolores Sweley
WOOD RIVER -- Dolores P. Sweley, 54, of Wood River died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. William Voelker will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Litchfield District Cemetery.
Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include her husband, George; one son, Gregg of Scottsbluff; one daughter, Lisa (Mrs. Dan) Rodgers of Loveland, Colo.; one granddaughter; three brothers, Leo J. Eskey of Fremont, Frank J. Eskey of Lincoln and Michael T. Eskey of Springfield, Va.; one sister, Kathy (Mrs. Gary) Steinke of Lincoln; her stepmother, Ruth Eskey; and several stepsisters.
James Edlund
James O. Edlund, 72, of Grand Island died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Mr. Edlund donated his body to science. Burial will be at a later date in Moses Hill cemetery north of Holdrege.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Edlund was born on April 11, 1926, at Westmark Township in Phelps County to Frank and Alice (Olson) Edlund. He grew up and was educated in Phelps County. He attended rural District 46 School, completed religious instruction at Westmark Evangelical Church and attended Loomis High School.
He joined the U.S. Army on March 13, 1951, and served during the Korean War with the 2nd Infantry Division from August 1951 to April 1952. He was awarded three battle stars. He worked as a carpenter and barber and also did farm work.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the National Wildlife Federation and a lifelong member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5136 in Lexington. He enjoyed dogs and baseball.
Survivors include special friends, Patrick and Karen Beatty of San Antonio.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kermit and Daryl.
Barbara Holm
Barbara Elise Holm, 77, of the Grand Island Veterans Home died Friday, July 31, 1998, at the home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Chapel at the veterans home. The Rev. Roland W. Going will officiate. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fort McPherson National cemetery near Maxwell.
Brand-Wilson Mortuary in Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the veterans home.
Mrs. Holm was born on July 8, 1921, at Beatrice to Jacob and Myrtle (Grimes) Klein. She grew up in Beatrice and Lincoln.
She married
Howard K. Holm on Aug. 29, 1947. She lived in Omaha for 50 years. She lived at the Grand Island Veterans Home for more than two years. Mr. Holm died on May 18, 1978.
Mrs. Holm was a past member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church of Omaha.
Survivors include one daughter, Jacqueline (Mrs. Lance) Shephard of Lakewood, Colo.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Allan Klein.
Megan Anderson
POLK -- Megan Renee Anderson, daughter of Joel and Cynthia (Blase) Anderson of Polk, was stillborn Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Private family services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk. The Rev. Curt Letcher will officiate. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Survivors include her parents; one sister, Alison Anderson of Polk; and grandparents, Duane and Joyce Blase of Hordville and Chris and Verlene Petersen of Polk.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Harold.
Carroll Babcock
KENESAW -- Carroll J. Babcock, 73, of Kenesaw died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Kenesaw. The Rev. Don Nunnally will officiate. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw and one hour before services Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Tri-Family Ministry or the family's choice.
Mr. Babcock was born on Sept. 17, 1924, in Greeley County to Clarence and Martha (Jacky) Babcock. He went to school in North Loup and graduated in 1946 from North Loup High School.
He married
Dorathy Johnson on March 3, 1946, at Scotia. He did farm work for W.H. Schudlet in North Loup for 15 years. He moved to Adams County in 1961 and worked for Lloyd Bohlke for 14 years and Eldon Grothen of Hastings for 14 years. He retired in 1989 and moved to Kenesaw. He then worked for Dan Beal part time and did lawn mowing until 1995.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kenesaw. He was also a very active member of the Kenesaw Senior Center and held many offices.
Survivors include his wife; one foster daughter, Debbie (Mrs. Glenn) Wentz of Cairo; one son, Paul Babcock of Kihei, Hawaii; two grandchildren; one foster granddaughter; three sisters, Marguerit Scott of North Loup, Ida Babcock of Dodge Center, Minn., and Bonnie Severance of North Loup; and four brothers, Chester Babcock of Arcadia, Gilbert Babcock of North Loup, Merwin Babcock of Chico, Calif., and Donna Babcock of Hickman.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Barber.
Jeffrey Budzinski
ST. PAUL -- Jeffrey D. Budzinski, 15, of St. Paul died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The Revs. Rosalie Anderson and John Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Jeffrey was born on Oct. 15, 1982, at St. Paul to Paul and Diane (Brundage) Budzinski. He first attended school in Grand Island and then at Farwell and for the past four years attended school at St. Paul.
He enjoyed football and basketball, fishing and camping at his grandparents' cabin at Harlan, hunting with his friends, father and grandfather, riding bikes and being with his friends. He liked the outdoors. He enjoyed four-wheeling on his Uncle Jeff and Aunt Mary's farm and being in the country. He attended Homeward Trail Bible Camp at Mason City.
Survivors include his parents, Paul Budzinski of St. Paul and Diane Brundage of St. Paul; one sister, Jessica of St. Paul; and grandparents, Rita Budzinski of St. Paul and Doyle and Peggy Brundage of Farwell.
He was preceded in death by grandfather, Edwin Budzinski.
