Marvin Johnson
GREELEY -- Marvin Johnson, 72, of Greeley died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Greeley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Cynthia Altstadt will officiate. Burial will be in the Greeley City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.
T.J. Finn and Sons Funeral Home in Greeley is in charge of arrangements.
Leona Stewart
AURORA -- Leona Stewart, 91, of Aurora died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, in Memorial Community Care at the Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Higby Mortuary of Aurora. The Rev. Jay Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Mrs. Stewart was born July 18, 1907, at Pittsfield, Ill., to Orville and Grace (Grimes) Williams. She grew up in Hamilton County, attended country school and graduated from Aurora High School. Following graduation, she attended Lincoln School of Commerce.
On March 29, 1935, she married
Ross C. Stewart at Lincoln. They lived in Kansas City, Chicago and New York before retiring in Rancho Bernardo, Calif. Mr. Stewart died June 8, 1985. Mrs. Stewart suffered a stroke and, on Aug. 15, 1995, entered Memorial Community Care at Aurora.
She was a member of the Aurora First Christian Church.
Survivors include one brother, Orville of Chadron; two sisters, Florine Kelly of Aurora and Mary Peetzke of Hampton.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde, Merlin and Hayward Williams, and one sister, Lucille Sautters.
Leonard Woolsey
BROKEN BOW -- Leonard L. Woolsey, 87, of Broken Bow, formerly of Mason City, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at the Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services are pending with Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Luis Aguilera
Luis Antonio Aguilera, 8-month-old son of Frostina (Schmidt) Aguilera of Grand Island and the late Isaias Aguilera, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include his mother; two brothers, Rigoberto and Roberto, both of Grand Island; one sister, Jessica of Grand Island; maternal grandparents, Hazel Struble and Raymond Schmidt, both of Grand Island; and paternal grandparents, Maria Evelia Aguilera and Luis Alberto Escobar, both of El Salvador.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Robert Beberniss
Robert Beberniss, 101, of Grand Island died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Vern Rice will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Beberniss was born on Oct. 19, 1897, in rural Hall County to John and Alvina (Paustian) Beberniss. He grew up in rural Hall County and was educated at District 23 School.
He married
Adelia Boltz on April 19, 1919, at Grand Island. The couple farmed until his retirement in 1966. They continued to live on the farm until 1977, when they moved to Grand Island.
He was a member of the Platt-Duetsche. He loved working on the farm. He enjoyed listening to music, especially polkas. He also enjoyed livestock sales.
Survivors include two daughters, Lucille Wiese and Maxine (Mrs. Don) Morris of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
His wife died in July 1988. He also was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters.
Amelia Benzel
Amelia Benzel, 88, of Grand Island died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Weiss will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Benzel was born on Aug. 4, 1910, at Baltzer, Russia, to Henry and Anna (Koehler) Dietrich. Her family immigrated in 1912 to Grand Island, where she grew up and was educated through the eighth grade. After her education, she worked for Fairacres Creamery.
She married
Alex Benzel on Aug. 17, 1930, at Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island. Mr. Benzel died in 1984.
Mrs. Benzel was a homemaker and assisted with bookkeeping for her husband's painting company, Benzel and Dietrich. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, baking and bowling. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for several years and was a member of the Liederkranz.
Survivors include two sons, Gary and Richard Benzel, both of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Henry, William "Paav" and John, all of Grand Island, and Roland of California.
She was preceded in death by one great-grandson and two brothers, Alex and Art Dietrich.
Richard Brundage
Richard A. Brundage, 49, of Grand Island, formerly of Cairo, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services are pending with Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo.
Jack Hackett
Jack J. Hackett, 81, of Grand Island died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Mr. Hackett's body was cremated, and interment of the ashes will be at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 632.
Irene Ludington
Irene Ludington, 81, of Grand Island died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Curtis Holzworth will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Ludington was born on April 27, 1917, in York to Frederick and Katherine (Krott) Engel. She attended school in Grand Island.
She married
Al Koch on March 30, 1940, in Smith Center, Kan. The couple lived in Omaha for a short time, then moved to Grand Island. Mr. Koch died in 1989.
She married
Bert Ludington on Dec. 5, 1992, in Bridgeport. He died in November 1997.
Mrs. Ludington was a member of the Lutheran faith and the Eagles, Platt-Duetsche and Legion auxiliaries.
She enjoyed reading, cooking and sewing. She also made many silks for Fonner Park and Ak-Sar-Ben jockeys.
Survivors include two sons, John Koch of Omaha and Denny Koch of Loveland, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Barbara Ann Thoendal of Kansas City, Kan., and Mary Jane Vyborny of Grand Island; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Engel of Lincoln and Henry Engel of Enumclaw, Wash. and two sisters, Molly Engel of Grand Island and Bernice Engel of Omaha.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Fred; and two sisters, Marie Hope and Esther Christensen.
