Mary Smith
Mary B. Smith, 94, of Grand Island, formerly of Shelton, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Shelton. The Rev. Ted Dubs will officiate. Burial will be in the Shelton Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was cremated. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Larry Thompson
Larry E. Thompson, 59, of Grand Island died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Scott Air Force Base Hospital in Illinois.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army Church in Grand Island. Capt. Nancy Cramer will speak.
Mr. Thompson was cremated. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Thompson was born on June 15, 1939, at Grand Island to Porter and Alice (Robertson) Thompson. He grew up and was educated in Grand Island.
He served in the U.S. Army from June 15, 1956, to May 30, 1959.
He married
Donna Bruner on Nov. 8, 1968, at Kearney. The couple lived in Grand Island, where he was an over-the-road truck driver for 39 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Porter Thompson of Tacoma, Wash., and Larry Thompson and Harold "Butch" Hatcher, both of Grand Island; four daughters, Debra Brummett of Puyallup, Wash., Kimberly Suhr of Bremerton, Wash., Nancy Alberts of Cedar Hill, Mo., and Julia Ward of Mount Vernon, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; his mother, of Grand Island; and two sisters, Dorothy Coffey of Columbus and Sandy Szafrajda of Grand Island.
Sarah Hilliard
AURORA -- Sarah Leone Osborne Hilliard, 34, of Aurora died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at Aurora Memorial Hospital.
Services are pending with Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
'Ned' Hooker
SPALDING -- Edward J. "Ned" Hooker, 81, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Friendship Villa in Spalding.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding with the Rev. Frank Hoelck officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with rosaries at 4:30 and 8 p.m., Wednesday at Dolce Scheef Mortuary in Spalding.
Mr. Hooker was born on Nov. 13, 1916, in Spalding to Lawrence and Lillian (Keenan) Hooker. He attended District 4 School and graduated from Spalding Academy in 1934.
Mr. Hooker farmed with his two brothers on the family farm southeast of Spalding.
He married
Myrtle McBride on Nov. 20, 1948, in Bellevue. They farmed and lived on the family farm until they retired in 1978.
Mr. Hooker enjoyed hunting and fishing near his farm.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Nikie (Mrs. Dave) Herrera of Omaha; two sons, Ted of Spalding and Larry of Lincoln; five grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Flock of Omaha; and one brother, Earl of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Lucille Jensen
ST. EDWARD -- Lucille G. Jensen, 71, of St. Edward died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church at rural Lindsay. The Rev. David Collins will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Forrest Hosier
AURORA -- Forrest Roland Hosier, 78, of Aurora, former editor of the Aurora News-Register, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Aurora United Methodist Church. The Rev. Joe Scahill will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mr. Hosier was born on Oct. 16, 1920, at Fairbury to Forrest W. and Olive (Roland) Hosier. He grew up and was educated at Fairbury, where he graduated from high school.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Sept. 4, 1942, to Sept. 5, 1943.
He married
Shirley Anne Jones on Nov. 10, 1944, at Norton, Kan. He worked for newspapers in Fairbury, Holdrege, Minden and Broken Bow and was editor of the Aurora News-Register from 1967 until his retirement in 1986.
He was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, was past district governor of the Lions Club, belonged to the American Legion and was drummer for the Hamilton County Concert Band.
He played all over Nebraska with the Kearney State Collegians, which later its name to the Forrest Roland Band.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Kent of Garland, Texas; one daughter, Lori Anne Hosier of Aurora; one grandson; and one brother, Max of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Alfred Rieck
ALBION -- Alfred H. Rieck, 93, of Albion died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. The Rev. Larry Spomer will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery at Albion.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Ethel Rose
ST. PAUL -- Ethel Mae Rose, 104, of Heritage Living Center in St. Paul died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at the center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Libory's Catholic Church. The Rev. David L. Rykwalder will officiate. Burial will be in St. Libory's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a parish rosary at 7 p.m., Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested as Masses for the church.

Mrs. Rose was born on Nov. 9, 1894, at Sherman County to John and Nora (Hess) Drake.
She married
John J. Rose on Nov. 25, 1916, at Broken Bow. Together they farmed near Greeley, Broken Bow and St. Libory. Mr. Rose died on Nov. 22, 1959.
Mrs. Rose was a member of St. Libory's Catholic Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Jeanne Deaton of Grand Island, Margery Buhrman of St. Libory and Madelene Rose of Omaha; four sons, Leo of Milbridge, Maine, John of Everett, Wash., Kenneth of Omaha and James of St. Paul; 38 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Drake of Kilgore, S.D., and Dorothy Pollard of Milburn; and two brothers, Glen Drake of Broken Bow and Clyde Drake of Sargent.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Thomas; one daughter, Helen Ward; six brothers, Elmer, Francis, Albert, Edward, Harry and Kenneth Drake; and two sisters, Grace Strohl and Mildred Cook.
