Rose Bartunek
RAVENNA -- Rose N. Bartunek, 93, of Ravenna died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna. The Rev. Doug DeNeui will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the United Church of Christ in Ravenna or the Good Samaritan Center.
Mrs. Bartunek was born on April 28, 1905, in Ravenna to Fred and Mary (Vokoun) Novy.
She graduated from Ravenna High School in 1922 and attended Kearney State College.
She taught school for several years.
She married
William J. Bartunek of Rockville on Sept. 20, 1938. The couple lived in Aurora and Omaha and returned to Ravenna in 1945.
Mrs. Bartunek was a longtime, active member of the United Church of Christ in Ravenna and had served as church organiSt. Survivors include one son, Norman Bartunek of Lincoln; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her twin sister, Anna Dymek.
Germaine Batenhorst
CEDAR RAPIDS -- Germaine A. Batenhorst, 80, of Cedar Rapids died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at Bergan Mercy Health Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Ralph Steffensmeier will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Wake services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Visitation will resume from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Batenhorst was born on Sept. 3, 1918, in Cedar Rapids to Daniel and Barbara Dieter.
She graduated from Cedar Rapids Public Schools.
She married
Arnold Batenhorst on June 27, 1938, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Batenhorst was a housewife and mother.
She and her family lived and farmed south of Cedar Rapids until 1983, when the couple moved to Cedar Rapids.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include one son, Dan of Omaha; two daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Herman) Kaup of Osmond and Mary Jane Batenhorst of Omaha; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Dr. L. Daniel, Edward, Frank and Albert Dieter; and one sister, Margaret Homan.
Darrel McKinney
ARCADIA -- Darrel McKinney, 62, of Arcadia died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Arcadia. The Revs. Murry Johnston and Wayne Rouse will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia Rescue Unit and the American Cancer Fund.
Mr. McKinney was born on June 6, 1936, at Garden City, Kan., to George and Ida (Beaty) McKinney. He graduated from high school in Syracuse, Kan.
He married
Shirley Bretz of Wynonna, Kan., on May 29, 1955. They farmed and ranched near Lakin, Kan. They moved to Arcadia in 1962 to farm and ranch in Valley County.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Arcadia, the Masonic Lodge, Ducks Unlimited, the Arcadia Volunteer Fire Department, the co-op board of directors and the Loup City Country Club. He was a past member of the Pleasant Valley school board. He and his wife were longtime members of the Promenaders of Sargent. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Gwenda (Mrs. Mark) Horky of Sargent and Paula (Mrs. Tony) Lewis of Kearney; one son, Tom McKinney of Juniata; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Ann Dugan of Soldier, Kan., and Etnah Morgan of Lakin, Kan.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and his parents.
George Mogensen
BROKEN BOW -- George David Mogensen, 41, of Broken Bow died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, from injuries suffered in a three-vehicle accident on Highway 2 near St. Michael.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Eric Spruth-Janssen will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family or to Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Mr. Mogensen was born on Oct. 11, 1956, at North Platte to Jackson G. and Gertrude (Eggers) Mogensen. He attended grade school in North Platte. He then moved with his family to Broken Bow and attended schools there, graduating from Broken Bow High School in 1975.
He served in the National Guard for many years. He also worked at the Sutherland Power Plant and later worked with his father in the plumbing business in Broken Bow. After his father's death in 1992, he purchased Mogensen Plumbing. He married
Theresa Jasnoch on June 9, 1979.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Broken Bow. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing, football and playing cards.
He was an active member of the Men's Bowling League, Broken Bow Elks Lodge 1688 and the Moose Lodge of Ogallala.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steve, Jack and Ryan at home; his mother, of Broken Bow; and three sisters, Connie (Mrs. John) Hoffman of Grand Island, Jacque Mogensen of Broken Bow and Patty (Mrs. Robbi) Smith of Arnold.
He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents, Emil and Dorothy Eggers and Gus and Minnie Mogensen.
Aletha Petersen
BURWELL -- Aletha Magdalene Petersen, 72, of Burwell died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery.
Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Kidney Foundation.
Mrs. Petersen was born on Aug. 11, 1926, in Garfield County to Charles and Eva (Sewell) Conner. She spent her childhood in Garfield County.
She attended the Free Silver Country School and graduated from Burwell High School in 1944.
She taught for four years in rural schools in the area.
She married
Roland Petersen on June 22, 1949, in Valley County. They lived on a ranch northeast of Taylor.
After Mr. Petersen's death in 1983, Mrs. Petersen continued to live on the family ranch until 1991, when she moved into Burwell.
She enjoyed her job at the nursing home as an activities aide. She worked until health problems forced her to retire.
She was active in the Pleasant View Extension Club and the Loup County Farm Bureau, which she served on many committees, including the State Women's Committee. She spent many years as a 4-H leader and taught Sunday school at the Burwell United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She enjoyed her kittens and her frog collection.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathryn (Mrs. Kenneth) Heine of York and Kayla (Mrs. Roger) White and Betty Jane Petersen, both of Burwell; four grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Frederick of Taylor.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Violet Irene; and a brother, Delvin.
