Hazel Paine
LINCOLN -- Hazel Paine, 88, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Friday, July 31, 1998 in Lincoln.
Private family graveside services will be Saturday. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Mrs. Paine was cremated. There will be no visitation. Roper and Sons Mortuary of Lincoln is in charge of services.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul United Methodist Church in Lincoln, Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island and Capitol Humane Society of Lincoln.
Mrs. Paine was born July 31, 1910, in Higginsville, Mo. to the Rev. Samuel and Ida (Groebe) Beechner.
She married
Charles Bentley Paine on Oct. 29, 1932, in Lincoln. Prior to living in Lincoln they had lived in Grand Island for many years.
He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Lincoln and PEO.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Carlton Bentley of Lincoln; one daughter, Elizabeth (Mrs. William) Dillon of Boulder, Colo.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Paul Schmit
BEAVER CROSSING -- Paul V. Schmit, 70, of Beaver Crossing died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Beaver Crossing. The Rev. Maurice Currant will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery at Beaver Crossing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Lauber-Moore Funeral Home at Beaver City is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Schmit was born March 8, 1998, near Nenzel. He graduated from Valentine High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He married
Doris D. Horan on July 5, 1956, at Beaver Crossing. He operated Smitty's Cafe at Beaver Crossing and had been employed by the Beaver Crossing Coop.
Mr. Schmit was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Holmes Post 178, all of Beaver Crossing and 40 & et Voiture 103 of Lincoln. He was a former Mayor of Beaver Crossing for 15 years and a Volunteer for the Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife; six children, Rodger Schmit of Grand Island, Robert Schmit of Beaver Crossing, Donna Waegli of Kennard, Mary Coufal of Brainard, Shirley Beetem of Friend and Donald Schmit of Unadilla; 10 grandchildren; three brothers and one sister.
He was preceded in death by parents an infant sister and four brothers.
Wilmer Senff
REPUBLICAN CITY -- Wilmer Theodore Senff, 70, of Republican City, formerly of Hampton, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, in a Kearney Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. The Rev. George Damm will officiate. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mr. Senff was born Jan. 4, 1928, to Theodore and Bertha (Regelean) Senff near Hampton. He grew up near Hampton and attended St. Peter Lutheran School, and graduated from Hampton High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Army when he was 18 and served with the Occupation forces in Japan from April 1946 until his discharge in September 1947.
On June 20, 1948, he married
Doris Russell at Aurora. He farmed north of Hampton for 12 years, then moved into Hampton and entered the insurance business. He was one of the top salesmen for the Midwest Life Insurance Company of Lincoln, for several years. In 1975, he moved to Republican City and started North Shore Insurance Agency. In 1992, he retired and continued to live on the North shore of Harlan County Lake.
He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church at Hampton and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in alma. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW Clubs. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and coaching his sons' baseball teams.
Survivors include three sons, Steven of Clay Center, Clark of Manhattan, Kan., and David of Hampton; one daughter, Sandra (Mrs. Andy) Fairley of Daykin; one sister, Lillian Lenz of Everett, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and his fiance, Maxine Mock of Republican City.
He was preceded in death by a son, Russell; a grandson and a sister, Edna Lenz.
Willis Bromwich
DENVER, Colo. -- Willis B. Bromwich, 37, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Grand Island, died Aug. 1, 1998, as a result of a car accident in Colorado.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. The Rev. Al Foote will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and then from 8 a.m. till service time on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Darrell Bromwich or Helen Hoffman.
Mr. Bromwich was born Sept. 27, 1960, to Darrell Bromwich and Helen Hoffman at Winner, S.D. He lived in Winner, S.D., until 1967 when the family moved to Grand Island. He attended Grand Island Senior High through his sophomore year before moving to O'Neill where he completed his high school education at O'Neill Senior High. After graduating, he continued his education receiving his Associate's Degree in Auto Body Technology.
On Feb. 14, 1986, he married
Chrystal Gartner at O'Neill. The couple lived in Grand Island prior to moving to Denver, Colo., where he was employed by Palermo's Truck Alignment. The couple was married
for seven years.
He loved the mountains, camping, skiing and being by the river. He also enjoyed rock climbing and his jeep.
Survivors include his son, Jarod "J.D." Bromwich of Chambers; two daughters, Ashley and Natasha Bromwich of Chambers; his father, Darrell Bromwich of Grand Island; his mother, Helen Hoffman of Holdrege; two brothers, Rod Bromwich of O'Neill and Bob Bromwich of Norfolk and two sisters, Kim Kuhnel of Lincoln and Stacy Bromwich of Ledyard, Conn.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Catherine Feierfeil
LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. -- Catherine Emma Feierfeil, 79, of Lake Elsinore, Calif., formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at Inland Valley Regional Center at Wildomar, Calif. of congestive heart failure.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Chapel in Lake Elsinore, Calif. Evans-Brown Mortuary of Lake Elsinore, Calif., is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Leukemia Foundation.
Mrs. Feierfeil was born April 29, 1919, at Grand Island to Charles and Anna Westphal. She moved to the Los Angeles area in 1964 and to Lake Elsinore in 1986.
She was an avid baseball fan who loved crafts and reading romance novels.
Survivors include one sister, Lorraine Waterman of San Diego, Calif.; 10 children, Jim Isakson of Redwood City, Calif., Steve Isakson of Escondido, Calif., Dixie Falldorf of Torrance Calif., Terry Lorenz of Riverside, Calif., Pat Lorenz of Temecula, Calif., Catherine Garrison, Chuck Lorenz, Lorraine Whiting and Debra Lanie, all of Lake Elsinore and Larry Lorenz of Torrance, Calif.; four step children, Gary, Ron and Dale Feierfeil and Juanitta Pearson, all of Oregon and Idaho; 32 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, one daughter and one grandson.
Sally Beason
Sally A. Beason, 67, of Grand Island died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grand Island Family Church, 2304 Macron Ave. The Rev. Allen Runyon will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Litchfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Beason was born on Dec. 14, 1930, at Litchfield to William and Aseneth (McAlevy) Craven. She grew up in Hazard and Loup City and was educated at Loup City.
She married
Donald Beason on Nov. 8, 1951, at Loup City. The couple farmed at Litchfield and then moved to Ventura, Calif. They returned to Grand Island in 1965. They owned a financial planning and protection business, and she served as officer manager.
She was a member of the Grand Island Family Church. She enjoyed antiques, garage sales, crafts, giving gifts to young children and cooking for her family.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Rocke Beason and Marty Beason, both of Grand Island, and Rex Beason of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one daughter, Cindy Davis of Delta, Colo.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers, Kenneth Craven and Larry Craven, both of Grand Island, and Ron Craven of Rogersville, Mo.; and two sisters, Wilma Howard of Davenport, Fla., and Patty Dangler of Norfolk.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Aseneth Mills.
Margaret Maul
Margaret M. Maul, 59, of 625 N. Howard died Monday, April 20, 1998, at her home after an illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Harry Kurtenbach will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m., with a Scripture wake service at 7 p.m., Thursday at Kleine Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. throughout the evening.
